They have good quality products mostly from Nepal, the products are mostly hand made and 100% fair trade!! They sell women clothing and accessories, including jewelry mostly from Nepal. They also carry beautiful, unique and well crafted goods that are fair trade. The stories of fair trade artisans are clearly displayed. The store is laid out beautifully with lots of natural light and is situated in the middle of a couple of Madison's finest authentic restaurants in downtown. The prices are not that cheap but you don't feel like you're compromising any quality for these unique, international fair trade items.

The shop/space in Madison houses about 10 or so artisans who work tirelessly honing their skills. One One Thousand offers various classes to the public where these artisans teach others their craft. From quilting to wood carving there is a class that could interest just about anyone. These creative workshops are the center of what One One Thousand is all about. The concept of such self motivated craftsmanship is a rarity these days. In a world of big box stores ruling the world, or at least America, getting back to the roots of doing it yourself is a breathe of fresh air. The space is big and bright and there is so much to look at around every corner. All the goods are displayed and available for purchase in the space as well. The variety of merchandise One One Thousand has to offer is phenomenal and the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. Each month the "market" has a theme and is only open a few select days a month. Because of this, the store is very, very crowded, so be prepared to get cozy with the people around you. The nice thing is that with such a beautiful setting, everyone is in a good mood and friendly and you'll have a few random conversations about the goods you're looking at. The owners seem like super sweet people who are enjoying living their Parisian dream with their customers - on our visit they were co-manning the checkout counter to get everything wrapped and added up in quick fashion and were very friendly and gracious - they exude appreciation that you're there and make you feel like a regular that's stopped in a corner shop as opposed to a stranger in an airport. I came away with a lovely greeting card featuring a fox and floral design, plus a ceramic bird teapot for my mother for Christmas. After getting home I flipped the pot over to see who made it, and was a bit disappointed to see it was a mass-market made in China piece. The store's tagline is "Authentic. French. Vintage." and this was none of those things. The inexpensive price probably should have tipped me off ($17), but at the end of the day it was a great, affordable find that I think the recipient is going to love, so who cares? The shop owners visit paris once or twice a year and work with french and local vendors to fill the shop with delightful treasures. Whether you have specific items you've seen on Etsy, Anthropologie, on a blog your visit, or if you are just looking for decorating inspiration...this place is a must! Today I visited and walked home with a vintage food scale and an antique minnow bucket. Both items I've been searching for, and I found them here reasonably priced and in fabulous condition. Next month I intend on visiting on the Thursday night...as they serve free wine while you shop!
