This is how I felt when I reached out to Peaceful Endings. While the decision itself will not get any easier, Peaceful Endings will make the weight of the decision more manageable. A few weeks ago, one of my cats was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The news came out of nowhere and I was absolutley devastated. While we were able to borrow a little time after the diagnosis with the use of sterroids, the grim reality was that her quality of life could drastically decline at any moment. I knew I couldn't let her suffer like that, but also couldn't bring myself to schedule her departure. I'd called so many home services, but was continually met with the necessitiy to schedule for a few days out. After days of calling, I had just about given up hope, and since it was one of the first beautiful days of the year, she was having a really good day, and I just wanted to enjoy it with her. As I sat watching her sunbathing, I told myself I needed to try at least one more time--if I could let her go on the highnote of the beautiful day, it would be the best chance I had at finding peace with the situation. I pulled up the only service that I had yet to contact, and submitted their online form. It was near the end of their office hours, so I told myself that if they reached out and could make it happen, it was meant to be. A few minutes later, I was answering Megan's call. She was so sweet, listening as I tried to give her the information between sobs, assuring me that it was alright and that she understood how painful this decision was. After the appointment was finalized, she stayed on the phone with me, giving reassurance that I was making the best decision for my sweet girl, even though it felt so horrible. This carried me through the next few hours. The time of the apointment came, and I received the text that I had been dreading: Dr. Emily had arrived. Allowing her into my home was the easiest and most difficult decision I've ever made. I wanted so desperately not to need her services, but I knew it was what needed to happen. Looking back, I'm so grateful I didn't back out, as much as I had wanted to, because I couldn't have asked for anyone better. She had such a calm and kind demeanor, offering reassurance that I was making a compassionate decision. She was so gentle and caring from the moment she arrrived through the time that they left. Our sweet Smokey was able to peacefully pass in his favorite spot and he was able to enjoy a delectable before it happened. That was his favorite treat. She also did such a wonderful job of getting Smokey's paw print. I also loved they offered 2 cremation options. I have never heard of water cremation before, but I will be choosing this option for all my pets moving forward. You get more remains back, and the company they use is incredible. Our 15 year old Kitty, Missy began experiencing a variety of medical issues this year. Our local vet, who we really like completed a variety of treatments, but Missy continued to struggle. This week, we realized and accepted just how much she was struggling. Her pain was obvious with her cries. We made the always difficult decision it was time to let he cross the rainbow bridge to a better life. Our call to Roxanne was very helpful. She is so friendly and understanding our our feelings. Our Scottish Terrier, Angus passed away today. He was 14 and had mouth cancer in addition to several other serious health issues. Jennifer Wahlund provided euthanasia services. We want to sincerely thank her again for her sensitivity and respect, both to Angus and to our family. She explained in advance what she would do and gave us confidence that Angus would not suffer and that his needs of his last moments would be met. We had a potentially difficult moment in which she had to pivot when there were no viable veins due to his health problems and she instead had to administer the final dose into his stomach. She handled this moment this with calm and grace and kept our family just as calm and focused on honoring Angus. It must be very challenging to put down family pets and be exposed to so many raw emotions, but she did a fantastic job in helping Angus leave with dignity, which we will sincerely appreciate. Putting down a beloved pet is beyond one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. And now during COVID, I was told by the animal hospital that my children could not be there when putting our dog down. I wanted my children (who were in school that day) to be able to be there. The animal hospital recommended Peaceful Endings and Mallory answered when I called. She was a shining light in all this sadness and confusion, thinking I have a couple of hours to decide to put my dog down who was in extreme pain and slowly dying. The ER Vet kept her on pain meds until I came to pick her up and bring her home. I was able to arrange with Peaceful Endings to have a vet (Dr Jen) come out that very evening - in just a few hours - to help our beloved dog cross over the rainbow bridge. And thankfully, my kids were able to be there in the comfort of our home. We had time to say our goodbyes. It was the best way I can imagine to be there for your fur babies and have the time to say goodbye. Dr Jen also made a clay pawprint with our dog's name imprinted. They also arrange to have your pet cremated (or buried) in a local pet cemetery. This is the way I will do it from now on if we have the time to make the choice! It's been only 5 days since I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 12 years, my soulmate animal, and I wanted to write this review while the pain was still fresh. I called Peaceful Endings for Pets after a different company had let me down by not informing me they no longer had a dr. in my area. I was completely frantic because I thought I had everything ready to go when the time came, and this left me scrambling to find someone I could trust. My poor baby had cancer and the tumor had started to audibly obstruct breathing so I knew I had to act quickly. My fiance found Peaceful Endings for Pets and I called them right away to see if they could make it out to me (Des Plaines). Megan was the person who called me back immediately after hearing breathing issues (on Christmas Eve nonetheless), and we discussed whether it was time and available appointments. Megan was such a kind hearted and genuine person, I felt an immediate connection with her and she even talked me down because I was incredibly anxious about everything. We agreed that I would call in the morning to let her know if the medicine he was prescribed would clear up the breathing by morning. The next morning I called back because I had a scare during the night with his breathing and him going limp in my arms and I knew he wouldn't make it through another night. Again, Megan called me back, on her DAY OFF on CHRISTMAS DAY. She explained the procedure and gave me advice on things to do to bring me comfort while I waited and after. She said many kind things to assure me I was doing the right thing for him and put my heart at ease. We made the appointment for later that night. Dr. Jen agreed to come out on CHRISTMAS NIGHT at 11pm because I wanted to spend Christmas day with my baby. When she arrived, her presence was very calming and I could tell she truly cared about each and every animal she came to send off. My kitty wasn't even afraid of her, it was almost as if he knew why she was there, and he was tired and ready. She told me stories of her beloved pet and allowed us to tell ours. She gave us space when we needed it, but was close by to help. She was able to read the situation perfectly and give him and us what we needed to make it through the most heart wrenching experience of my life. My Barry was seemingly okay throughout the day, but began to let go the second she got there, and I don't believe this to be a coincidence. After the sedative, he started to leave on his own, and Dr. Jen acted immediately to make sure he didn't suffer. She was kind and compassionate about our loss and let us walk out with her to say goodbye one last time. Sorry for such a long review, but this whole experience meant the world to me and I have tears streaming down my face as I remember the kindness that Megan and Dr. Jen showed me. They both went above and beyond on a day that no one else would have helped me, and I will never forget them for making sure my baby and best friend didn't suffer and was able to drift off peacefully in his bed by the window. I want to say though I did not have a positive experience Dr. Kari Trotsky. She came to my house and never presented me with her ID or even a badge. Which I know is my fault, but I had other things on my mind, due to having to put my beloved dog down. The physician came in and explained the procedure. She went to inject my dog with first injection in the scruff of his neck, not once but twice, and Charlie proceeding to nip me, due to fact it hurt, I was in horror!! What the hell just happened? I was in shock; the peaceful ending I had hoped Charlie would experience had instead turned hideously painful and traumatic. Then the physician stated the second injection had to be injected his hind leg, which was fine, but the physician couldn't find a vein and attempted four times total, very upsetting and then the fifth attempt she made the final injection right into his liver/abdomen. Again, I was outraged and sickened. 7 needle sticks and the last one right into his stomach was uncalled for an very painful for me to watch. I didn't know what to say to the physician, as I sat on the floor crying and comforting my beloved dying dog. Last night, I couldn't sleep, thinking how I betrayed my beloved Charlie by holding him while someone hurt and terrified him. I couldn't shake the vision of Charlie's last few minutes, being stuck over and over again. I have witnessed 5 other dogs of mine being euthanasia in the last 30 years and never have I witnessed such a travesty, and hope I never do again!! I'm sorry Charlie read more

Just had a very difficult experience with putting my dog to sleep. The vet was insensitive trying to give me medical options and advice which was not helpful. Only after she witnessed a seizure did she see my point of view. It then took 3 sedation shots and 2 euthanasia shots to finish the job. Awful. An hour total of my pet struggling to live. Never again. They need to be up front that they DO NOT use an IV to administer either drug which makes the process slower. Please seek out a more efficient and caring provider. read more
