This spot has been a few different things in the past few years: Link Gallery, Color 2 Gallery (both places where I used to show), and now a fair-trade, slave-free store, Peace on Fifth.
The owner is fun and knowledgeable and has great tastes in many things. Single-origin dark chocolates, raw and vegan goodies including food and cosmetic products, soaps made by Japanese Rastafarians (I know!), scarves and sarongs made from recycled saris, olive oils from the deserts of the middle east, wine perfumed candles, beautifully made glassware made from recycled glass, just to name a few.
It's one of those places where you feel good shopping at, know where your things are made, and know that the workers were treated fairly and that the products were made without the use of any indentured servants or slaves (which unfortunately exists more often than we think).
The best thing is that the prices are great! I am so used to going to such fair-trade, sustainable, eco/green stores in bigger cities such as Chicago and San Francisco and the prices being marked up too high, but at this place, I could actually afford things I liked without breaking the bank.
She also participates in First Friday events and I think from what I remember, there will be wine tasting happening sometime soon. read more
