Visited this store for the first time this weekend. I never heard of the place until recently. It's like a walk back in time. They carry a large variety of things and the squeaking wood floor planks are awesome. Family-owned for decades and still around during these tough times. I bought some stuff I really didn't need but I believe in supporting local merchants during these tough economic times for small businesses. They also own the hardware store next door. I cannot say enough about this store. I absolutely love this place! It truly is a " variety " store. They have just about anything you are looking for. I found embroidered hankies for lady to carry in her purse. There is a large section of quilting fabric and sewing supplies. A variety of craft and jewelry findings. Greeting cards and gift wrap. Kitchen supplies and housewares. Even a good supply of cast iron cookware. Don't forget the garden seeds and bird feeders too. The staff are very friendly and helpful and will always go the extra mile to help. I could go on at length about other items in the store and the excellent service I have received but I will just say it's a hidden gem of a store, and if you are in the West Milton area stop in and check it out for yourself. Wertz's is the kind of old-fashioned five-and-dime from years ago carrying all the odds and ends you can't find elsewhere - Wertz's Hardware next door is great, too. They have a lot of interesting things that you didn't know you needed but once you see them remember someone else having one. Also great that everything is reasonably priced! A nice sized kitchen section with hard to find items like pie rings, corn holders, etc. Seasonally they carry seeds and onion bulb sets, bird seed and feeders. Keep an eye out for the cat, she's often sunning herself in the front window, or in her basket near the back register. No stop in is complete without finding her! A large craft section with yarn, fabric, beads and silk flowers. They also make a lot of memorial markers (the kind that fit on grave stones or in front of them) on-site so can do the colors you want if you don't pick out a ready made one. A fun toy aisle with lots of puzzles, games, cards, and a smattering of Barbies and Legos. Always annoyed that your Mexican Train domino set didn't come with enough trains? Buy them here one at a time. Always a nice holiday section, with everything from flowers to pottery bowls and sings. A whole aisle of odds and ends like handkerchiefs, magnetic grocery lists, change purses and bandanas. Good prices on greeting cards, stationary (yes they still make it), invitations, thank you cards and gift bags. Basically the kind of place that I usually only find in some small town on vacation, but we're lucky to have one here. read more
