One of the best shops in Dayton's Oregon District, geared towards adults humor. You can no doubt find a unique gift for a special friend here. I spent the majority of my time just browsing and cracking up under my breath, before I spotted a Bowie candle my friend had to have! They have magnets, cards, booms, mugs, buttons, socks, prints, jewelry and Ohio pride covered throughout their eclectically decorated walls. This store is inviting and fun. My family really talked up this shop in the Oregon District. An cool, eclectic place. It was ok. I thought there would be more locally made, craft items. There was a pop up shop with an artist outside their front door. Most of there stuff was imported stuff that you can pretty much buy anywhere. I had to chuckle at a blatant dichotomy. They had multiple signs/stickers professing their equality and acceptance. And right above the entrance were two huge banners which clearly (most clearly) stated that if you are pro-life, you are wrong. Walk through the door and leaning against the checkout stand was a large "Pro Roe" sign which was bookended with signs that said "F... Kavanaugh" and all of the other conservative Supreme Court justices. I feel like we were duped into a bait and switch. What we thought was a local shop was really a political franchise. read more

I always stop in and say I'm just going to look around but I ALWAYS end up buying something. The staff is always so friendly and willing to help if you can't find your size in a T-shirt or something. This is a super cute gift shop. I found many things I wanted but only bought one. The prices were just a little more than I like. I'll admit if the T shirt or onsie I wanted to buy were just $4 less I probably would have bought them but I have a mental cut off limit for such things. Heart Mercantile is a very welcome addition to the Oregon District. The store itself is well-appointed and charming, and the staff is always friendly. I've purchased gifts here for a range of audiences, from my husband to a friend expecting her first child to coworkers. There's something perfect and unique for everyone here, and the prices are fair for the quality of goods. I literally cannot walk into this store without buying something and wanting everything else. I particularly love their greeting cards and their selection of art prints, and they usually have a cute assortment of vintage frames to go with them. Heart Mercantile is this super cute and super awesome shop in the Oregon District in Dayton. I've been in here a couple times now and everytime I return I find even more and unique items to buy. They have everything from home goods, paper goods, clothing for adults some men and women, and some clothing for babies and kids. They have jewelry, some vintage items and from what I can tell a handful of things made by local artists. It's affordable, they also have sales sometimes and everything they have in the store is of great quality. What I love most about Heart Mercantile is that it is unique with style. Defiantly will continue to stop by and support them when I'm back in Dayton. read more

If you're looking for Dayton pride apparel, this is your place, especially when it comes to womens apparel. That's an issue I have with small local boutiques is their lack of carrying womens tees. Granted, they don't print the apparel, just sell them, but at least they have them! You'll find bachelorette party gifts and shirts, funny prints, baby onesies and apparel, food items and more. So, they've done a really nice job including something for everyone when you're looking for a gift. read more

Heart on 5th, also named Heart Mercantile, sells an assortment of handmade and vintage-themed clothing, minimalist decor, quirky crafts, decor, and bath items. I enjoyed visiting this store, which is located in the Oregon District, Dayton's historical entertainment street. I love their quirky wall prints. A lot of the items are quite useful for the home. This store looks unique and has a mission to give back to the community. Very lovely. They also have an online shopping site, but I would highly suggest visiting the brick-and-mortar store to take a look at all the gorgeous items. I can't wait to visit again! read more

The staff here is RUDE. The items are cute and funny but good luck finding anything. If you need help you will get an eye roll. I had my arms full of gifts and was standing by the cash register and the employee acted so bothered that she had to come cash me out so I could give money to this business. I am not returning. Easily my favorite shop in Dayton. The owners are wonderful, hilarious folks that are always giving back to their community. I absolutely adore the constant tongue in cheek attitude, you can tell they have fun and have very few, if any, f*cks to give. Looking for a small business with products to satisfy all your witty, feminist, or Ohio-themed needs? Heart Mercantile has it all! I've only been here a few times, but it never disappoints. Many of the products are humorous, some are more serious, all of them are worth browsing. Even in the midst of today's Christmas Eve crowds, the staff seemed warm and inviting. I like this place and will definitely be back, but a head's up for parents: It might not be the place to take middle schoolers or kids who are old enough to read but not old enough to understand the birds and the bees...if you catch my drift.
