This isn't technically a bad branch of PC World. It's quite big, spread across two floors and there's tonnes of parking space if you've driven here. It has a large range of items available and a good selection within those. You'll fine laptops, tablets, printers, TVs, cameras, speakers, and household appliances. Plus cables and accessories. What you'll probably struggle to find is what you're looking for or anyone who can help. After wandering the store for ten minutes trying to find a hard drive, I wandered for another five trying to find a sales assistant. No luck. I even tried standing near some expensive stuff in the hope that someone would appear to try to sell me something but that didn't work either. Eventually I stumbled across the hard drives by accident but they were (in my opinion) overpriced. It all felt like a bit of a waste of time. If you want an iPad or a TV you won't struggle to find it, although I'd shop online first to make sure you don't pay over the odds, but if you want a smaller item or accessory you could be wandering around for a while. read more

PC World can be quite an infuriating experience. You have a quick browse at the new computers and find that the machine you bought for £1000 two weeks ago has already been replaced by something ten times as powerful and half the price. That's not really PC World's fault though, and after the anger subsides this really is an excellent store for pretty much anything to do with computers. They also do games consoles and other techy treats such as digital photo frames and Blu-Ray players, so a trip in here for a memory stick can easily turn into an hour long trawl through an orgy of consumer electronics. I was pleasantly surprised by the staff as well. I came in to buy a router and expected the salesman to insist I need the most expensive one whilst demanding I take out a ten year warranty on it, but he actually recommended the cheapest option. PC World is the last stop for the desperate. They do not carry the latest technology. A 250Gb Hard Drive Wow!! They are not the cheapest - 17 quid for a network cable!!!!! But they are possibly more reliable than the nearby Argyle Street component shops and have a wide range of stuff. In other words, the keyboard you buy here was probably made by a company you recognise and not some variation of MacroSaft or LogiTick. The salesmen are not really helpful and you could probably unearth the extent of their misinformation with a few trips around a couple tech forums. So after all of this - why go there? If you need it today and you cannot wait for City Link or DHL to deliver your equiment from an online supplier, you can bite the bullet and pay more for less at PC World. If you are thinking of going to PC World and you have the time - spend a couple minutes online or reading through a couple magazines to find a decent online supplier. You will save some money and possibly get something manufactured after 2008. read more

I really hate this sort of shop, there is never any staff available once you have chosen an item and you are made to wait half an hour for a member of staff to serve you and when they are ready they dont' have a clue, and are more intrested in selling insurance cover for the product. Best advice go home and buy online it's quicker and saves on time and stress. read more

Where in the world? Sorry, I had to say it (just be thankful I'm not singing the jingle). In a nutshell, PC World is a great place to grapple with the latest technology. They have an extensive range of computers, from laptops big and small to large monitors for PC's. They have a good games selection, no fills laptop bags and all sorts of accessories, from microphones to massive external hard drives. I bought my first PC from here - an EMachine for a grand. It came with a digital camera (holding 12 pictures on its memory), a scanner, MGI Photosuite and 19 gig of memory. I hooked it up to a 56k connection. Those were simpler times. I bought a laptop from here many years later (my old machine lasted me ten years - thank you my old friend). It was so durable - the laptop, not so much. I spill and I clatter around everywhere, so laptops are maybe too flimsy for me. I've lost 6 years worth of data due to my clumsiness, but my laptop is still pretty good. However, I am three starring as opposed to awarding a more favourable four star review because of how little my insurance helped me a few years back. The staff are really helpful but I would strongly advise against paying ANY computer off on a monthly basis. My insurance, which was an additional 7.99 every month, didn't account for when my external hard drive broke of its own accord, losing all my data. The guys in the shop failed to see what was wrong with it, which is a shame since if they had at least recognized that a clicking noise spells death for hard drives, they could've backed up my data before the bitter end chewed it all up. But they told me it was ok, and when I took it back again they said they my insurance not only didn't cover it, but that they couldn't help. The staff were nice about it, but it's just the company policies that I have gripes with. Eventually I was advised that I could get a new external hard drive if I sent away to Seagate but that's besides the point - I wanted to get my photos back. I was quoted £800 pounds repair if it was sent off - 8 times what I paid for the thing in the first place. They said that sometimes, these things happen. For once I wasn't clumsy, and it still just...died. Maybe I need to accept that that's what things do, but you'd think that in this day and age a hard drive that had been used for a mere three months would last a little longer. They can send people into space but they make these things flimsy, with magnets inside that are now apparently more prone to slipping and messing with the mechanisms. Sigh. I'm just really bitter I lost all my visual memories. Don't get me wrong, the staff are so lovely in here. I just wish I'd known some of this stuff before my purchase. But at the end of the day, it's a lesson learned - never put all your eggs in one basket, and if you can't afford to pay for something upfront then just accept that you can't afford it! Monthly repayments are the road to ruin - my laptop cost me double what it should have. And if I go into Pc World again soon (which I will, because I do like it even after all this) then I will find a laptop ten times better than my slowly aging one! To be honest, I use PC world to browse. There is a cheaper, and local, computer shop over the road and while it can be fun to see the top of the range machines, and have a quick play on the latest functions, I don't regard it as a place where I'd buy a machine. The staff are helpful, but they lack the expertise that I'd hope for when spending so much money, and the PC World "off-the-shelf" experience isn't one I like. That is, of course, my issue: PC World does a solid job of offering good machines for the casual user, and my parents swear by it. They have a good, comprehensive, after sales care, but it seems to me that it is just as well going on-line for their products. They don't tend to be as fussy as the smaller computer shops on the matter of customer care. They assume that the customer just wants it fixed, and take control. Since I don't really understand computers, this is a real feature for me. In a pinch, I have got my hard drives and accessories here- they are always good quality and known names, and the service is swift and efficient- another plus against the local stores' busy fronts. It's close enough to the town centre too, across from the SECC, which makes it handy for a Sunday afternoon visit. read more

As nicoles has said the customer service at PC isn't fantastic, they are rearley able to help and when they do you get the wrong information. If you know what your looking for and how much its going to cost then the stores got a decent selection and has a business section in it. just remember if your asked for your postcode / address TELL THEM TO TICK THE NO MARKETING otherwise you'll get bombarded with letters about extended warranty or new backup services etc etc. read more

I've never really been a PC world fan and this is the worst of the bunch. Took a faulty acer laptop in and the staff couldn't have been ruder or less helpful. Despite the shop being empty it took 5 minutes for anyone to come to the tech desk. After being told that I'd have to pay for repair (it was in the warranty and clearly not abused) he finally threw a phone and me and walked off, not bothering to tell me who was on the other end. I went to complain to the manager as I'd been nothing but polite and the manager said they already had a complaint running so not to bother (!). I was shaking with anger by the time I left and will never, ever go back. Of course this could be a one off event but why bother testing it. I have a feeling anyone buying will be treated well enough but don't expect any help afterwards. read more

Massive store selling computer gear, gaming consoles and televisions. The sheer size of the store may contribute to fact staff can be very hard to find when you want to ask a question or even ready to purchase. I've often found myself wandering round for a good half an hour before help finally comes from above! Repairs and assistance with technical help seem to cost too much in my opinion and everything is done by the staff in an uncaring fashion towards the customer. Not very welcoming for a store that should be providing the best care they can. read more

I've been frequenting this store for as long as I can remember having a computer, usually with an idea of what I need to purchase. All the staff I've ever encountered in this massive store are very approachable and happy to help. The trouble is trying to find one that isn't already helping someone else! They have pretty much everything you'll ever need for your computer in here (well, all your main components anyway!) and if they don't then I've found them to be quite helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I believe the customer service you get and those extra tips and hints from the staff are worth the extra cost. read more

I had a very pleasant purchase at this branch. Richard the customer service was really helpful. I have got a surface pro from this branch 9 months ago, and during the past months it randomly froze from time to time. I brought the device back to the store, and every time Richard never hesitated to fix the problem for us, at the same time encouraged us to bring it back to store if the problems occurred again. Ordered an iPad Air online and receipted a damage one after nearly 10 days (very slow delivery). Did came to 2 of their stores but no one sorted it out for me. Then i had to make very long waiting call to their line, they did arrange me a collection but fail again, I had been waiting for the whole day to some one come and get it but no one came!!! Call again and wait wait again... Real pain!!! So So So stupid company. Never come back again.
