This isn't technically a bad branch of PC World. It's quite big, spread across two floors and…read morethere's tonnes of parking space if you've driven here. It has a large range of items available and a good selection within those. You'll fine laptops, tablets, printers, TVs, cameras, speakers, and household appliances. Plus cables and accessories. What you'll probably struggle to find is what you're looking for or anyone who can help. After wandering the store for ten minutes trying to find a hard drive, I wandered for another five trying to find a sales assistant. No luck. I even tried standing near some expensive stuff in the hope that someone would appear to try to sell me something but that didn't work either. Eventually I stumbled across the hard drives by accident but they were (in my opinion) overpriced. It all felt like a bit of a waste of time. If you want an iPad or a TV you won't struggle to find it, although I'd shop online first to make sure you don't pay over the odds, but if you want a smaller item or accessory you could be wandering around for a while.

You have a quick browse at the new computers and…read morefind that the machine you bought for £1000 two weeks ago has already been replaced by something ten times as powerful and half the price. That's not really PC World's fault though, and after the anger subsides this really is an excellent store for pretty much anything to do with computers. They also do games consoles and other techy treats such as digital photo frames and Blu-Ray players, so a trip in here for a memory stick can easily turn into an hour long trawl through an orgy of consumer electronics. I was pleasantly surprised by the staff as well. I came in to buy a router and expected the salesman to insist I need the most expensive one whilst demanding I take out a ten year warranty on it, but he actually recommended the cheapest option. I hope he gets employee of the month.

This is due to the fact they have stock of spares and screens while other shops need to order in each part meaning it was much less time consuming and less inconvenience caused. They also polished and cleaned my laptop before I picked it up. Reasonably priced and fantastic customer service. I will defiantly be coming back if i have any more issues with my laptop. I downloaded windows 10 and as a result lost my microsoft office programmes and found that my…read morecomputer would no longer recognise my printer or camera. I re-installed windows 8.1 and after resetting all my original settings, still my computer would not recognise my printer or camera. This was the problem I took to speedy pcs. They charged me £80 telling me that they would need to install 8.1 again and give me copies of microsoft office. In the process, they reset the standard settings again and wiped my files - things that I was able to recover from myself. They told me that I would need to buy a new printer, which I did at a further cost of £60. My computer still does not recognise my camera. They also stopped my computer from being able to read PDF files, videos and pictures. The speed of processes is about 1/10 of what is was previously. I took it back to complain and he told me that I'd need a new camera as well. He also denied having charged me as much as he did. Although I have the receipt, I realise that I should not have paid him in cash - something that he insisted upon. I'll phone the tax office tomorrow because I hate those people who take our money, laugh at us, create problems and don't pay their due taxes. This is what speedy pcs did to me.

GAMER'S FIX So today…read moreis Him Indoors' birthday...he decided last night he wanted to have "a two-console household"...ooookaaaaay darling!! ;-) He's already got a PS4 and today I got him a Wii U in this Game store. The location is very handy, close to loads of transport and central!! As soon as we asked for assistance, a very friendly girl came over and helped us out. She immediately told us about a bundle deal, where basically you get the console (for the normal price it is everywhere...) and a wee accessories pack free...and there are cheaper games (premium and new titles) should you chose to buy them at that point. The accessory pack had a wee stylus (the Wii U game controller is a huge thing with a touch screen and buttons etc, so this is a great wee bonus for NO MONEY!!) a screen protector for the controller screen and a pouch to keep the controller safe when not in use...FABULOUS wee extra!! The staff member then showed us where the pre-owned games were, there was a good selection! Him Indoors had a rewards card, so she happily put the points on there for us and explained that the points don't register for 24 hours, again, helpful!! He spied another game he liked the look of so asked her to put it aside whilst we went to look for other bday pressie stuff elsewhere (we ended up not going elsewhere, but she had already set it aside for him, so it was available ready to go at the till.) I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for games/consoles/iPads etc...they have a great selection (of new and pre owned games and consoles!) and they take pre orders too for the next Big Thing!!

It's important to know this when you make big purchases because they will steer you away/towards particular products. They do good trade-ins and bundles and are always bang up to date with the latest releases. It's pretty big inside with plenty of room to move around and they always have playable demos of new releases which is always fun!
Mercury Computers

When my seemingly bullet-proof external hard drive came to its demise one rainy summer's day, I…read morefrantically searched for someone who could revive it. Although the guys at Mercury were unsuccessful at retrieving my data, that is a reflection on the poor manufacturing at Seagate (b**tards!) rather than the guys here. The slick and friendly gentleman who attempted to do a number on my drive treated the situation like he was a doctor, but did not charge me for the hassle of examining the case. He gave me a concise diagnosis without deluding my expectations and was extremely apologetic when nothing could be done. That being said, he shed some light on the matter - my hard drive had slipped disks inside the magnetism, which is in computing terms a terminal illness. An operation on my item would have to be carried out in sterile conditions (I'm not kidding!) in a lab that you ususally have to send your item away to as these places are normally secluded in the country. But I appreciate the effort Mercury's team made and the fact they spent some time mulling over the situation without charging me for it. For repairs that can be carried out in their workshop they seem to be skilled, with prices at the expected rate for repairs such as these. I sincerely hope I won't have to mourn losing years worth of data again, but if such problems should arise I would return to this laptop surgery.

I sympathised over a strong cup of tea - I had lost my laptop in the same way. A few days later he walked me back to my flat hugging the dead laptop insisting that he was taking it to Mercury Computers to get it fixed. In denial, I thought. I told him he had to move on and cut his losses - that getting it repaired would cost too much. But miraculously Mercury Computers brought it back to life and it is still going strong! Amazing. I don't think it was exactly cheap (definitely quite a bit under £100 though) and a small price to pay in comparison to a new laptop. I wonder now if I let my last wee beloved laptop down by not getting it the help it needed. Sniffle sniffle. Upstairs from Catani's this great wee place does everything you could dream of doing to your computer and sells all the bits and pieces for those with their own technical minds.
Cartridge World

I'm pretty sure everyone is in agreement about the horrendous price of print cartridges. If you buy…read moreofficial branded products sometimes cartridges are more expensive than the printer itself. However, Cartridge world aims to change all of this. As well as selling their own brand of printer cartridges (much cheaper than buying HP brand I promise) they'll also refill your old printer cartridges. I had two cartridges refilled this morning and it cost me under £20 for both of them - which isn't bad at all really. The guys in the store in Byres Road are really nice. I actually had a couple of problems with one of the refilled cartridges, but they replaced it for me with no fuss involved. I'd definitely recommend that you check this place out before you shell out upwards of £40 for a couple of print cartridges.

When your printer tells you to replace the…read morecartridge it often still has over half the ink left in it, and buying manufacturer's brand ink always puts a heavy dent in the finances. Fortunately Cartridge World is here to help us make significant savings by refilling our cartridges. They used to actually refill them while you waited, but now they'll just exchange your old ones for refilled and recycled cartridges at a much cheaper price than the originals. Just occasionally the cartridges won't work when you put them into your own printer; this is more likely to happen if they've been refilled a few times. However, don't despair - just take them back to the shop straight away and they'll be happy to exchange them for fresh ones. I've never had a problem with the service, the staff have always been helpful and informative and there is never a problem exchanging a cartridge if it doesn't work for you. Great service!
