I took it to PC World (the only PC shop I was aware of in the area when I first arrived) and it took them about 7 weeks to get it back to me - without either of the problems fixed (don't ask!). Annoyed with PC World I found Universal Computer Systems, a local independent PC shop and they sorted the problem in 3 days and the laptop is still working perfectly 5 years on! I've used them ever since for things like data recovery on my memory sticks and the service has always been spot on. It's pretty big with students I believe as the prices are low and the turn-around times are very quick which is important when you have assignment deadlines round the corner!

They diagnosed the issue in no time and even though I was panicking about loosing my data (no, i hadn't taken a back-up!) they managed to transfer it back to the laptop once the hard drive had been replaced. Worst customer services I've ever had from any company, and I mean ever! Had a damaged faulty TV…read moredelivered to me and I was told it would be collected and exchanged for a new one in one day only for the faulty one to be collected and no new TV delivered! No one in-store will help as it's an online order, and when you call customer services all they say is you'll have to wait for a phone callback which never happens either. Been promised a managers call now to log a complaint probably 30+ times, and I'm still waiting for that as well as my replacement TV. Go elsewhere, even if you have to pay more!
