My daughter has used Payless for a number of years, so I was comfortable calling for an estimate for my bedroom and bathroom. Tony came out quickly with an estimate and helped me choose the type of sheen for each room. I gave him my paint color choice and he matched it with the Sherwin Williams paint he uses. Jose and Marlon did the majority of the painting, and did an excellent job, from moving, covering furniture, cleaning baseboards that I couldn't reach, rehanging pictures and a curio cabinet. Jose also calked my shower and kitchen windowsill, and Tony fixed a kitchen drawer that had been out of commission for a few years. All three men were kind and cheerful. I have used Tony and his crew three times in the last 10 years, twice to paint the outside of my house and most recently to paint the inside. He does very good work and is very responsive to our requirements. Not only is he easy to talk to but has excellent advice when it is requested or there are important decisions to be made. I have used Tony Villalobos, Payless Painting, for over 20 years. I first used him to paint my own condo and add crown molding throughout. His people did a fantastic job and I have used him ever since. He also is working with me now to plan a kitchen remodel. He has good ideas and a strong sense of what materials will work whenever he undertakes a job. As a realtor I need a reliable, trustworthy and good contractor and Tony is all of that and more. He recently completely renovated my mom's house so I could put it on the market. He redid the bathrooms, renovated the kitchen, had the roof repaired and fixed a leak in the basement that was coming from the yard. The wood flooring in the house was badly damaged from years of wear and his workers replaced tiles, sanded and stained the floors to look like new. As a result of his work on the house it sold the very first day. His breadth of knowledge on how to fix everything is amazing. Tony recently redid a 3 BR, 2.5 bath condo for me to get it ready for rent. Another fantastic job done. He believes in committing to a time frame for each job he takes on. He starts the job when he says he will and finishes on time. He also is fairly priced. He is the only contractor I now use. One of the many nice things about working with Payless Painting is that his work crew is consistent - he has the same people working for him that he did a few years ago. Looks like there are two crews/companies at least by judging other reviews on Yelp. One with Tony and another with Carlos. I got Carlos. I got a quote verbally (you should get one in writing) and I asked Carlos if the quote included materials and he promptly said "Yes it did". On the day of the painting: Carlos asked me to buy his crew lunch which I did. However that was not in the agreement either and I found that request rather odd. Carlos leaves as soon as his crew begins - Carlos said he would be around to supervise his crew when he gave me the quote. Of course his crew speak very little to no English so communication was a challenge to put it mildly. Carlos showed up again in the afternoon and demands payment which now includes a receipt of materials that were purchased that day for the job. I felt a bit cheated since his quote included everything. Carlos asked me to make the check out to one of his Crew members - I found that odd too. Carlos said his crew would finish the job and leaves with the check. Later I found out that Carlos packed up the ladders that were needed to complete the job. His crew leave soon thereafter since they don't have the ladder(s) to finish the job and they also claim they have run out of one of the paint cans. Getting Carlos to come back and finish the job was also a challenge with at least four missed scheduled appointments. Carlos does eventually show up to finish the job and I have to supervise him pointing out on multiple occasions missed painted areas because he is now in a real hurry to leave. I also had to point out multiple areas that were missed by his crew rather than him inspecting his and his crew's work and fixing it himself. I had to pay Carlos again for materials to finish the job and this time he did not bother to provide a receipt. Later I found out he had overcharged me for the product (three fold) that he used and I felt cheated again. All said and done the total price paid to My Payless painting was pretty close to some of the estimates I got from other contractors on Angie's List. The quality of their work was about average with me having to remove the hardware, all holes not filled, paint splatters and scuff marks on the siding. read more

Tony runs Payless Painting and should not be confused with any other company with a variant of the name. I am a return customer after the good work he did on my mother's house. I recently employed him to paint my older house, an all wood bungalow, with one coat of tinted primer and 2 coats of quality paint. I just want to say first that Tony from Payless Painting has nothing to do with Carlos from My Payless Painting. The phone number for Tony is 703-850-7185. Unfortunately Yelp will not take down the bad reviews of Carlos from My Payless Painting, so in turn it has a negative affect on Tony and his business for no reason. I used Tony for a renovation for my sister's condo and he did excellent work. His work included painting, installing light fixtures, pulling up carpet, installing a toilet, and installing a sink. His attention to detail was outstanding and he kept on top of every facet of the job. He cleaned in an excellent manner and did the job in a time manner. read more

I have been using Tony's services for about 15 years. Payless started as a painting company and has become a full service contracting company. I have a large home in Bethesda that has required painting and repair to the interior and exterior over the years. Tony has always given me a fair price, begun the job soon after giving the estimate, and completed the job quickly and without interruption. The work has always been excellent, the cleanup complete, and the workers friendly and polite. I also referred Payless to a friend who was very happy with their work. This company is a big cheater, we have given him a lot of remodeling and painting jobs but left everything incomplete. Carlos who is running the company is no longer trustworthy of working with. He is not doing the job in a professional way even the painting which is his profession, he is not doing it in a right way, his purpose is to do the job in hurry and jamp to the other one. This company even doesn't deserve to receive one star but there was NO option and I would not recommend him for any projects even if it is smaller. read more
