I moved to Iowa recently and needed a new eye doctor. My last eye doctor was in Chicago and he was…read morevery up-to-date on the latest technology in eye care systems, technology and products. I wanted something comparable in Iowa, especially an office that had something called Optomap. Optomap is a machine that actually captures images of your retina without having to do dilation. I've been opting to have Optomap images instead of dilation since 2015 and it's been wonderful. So I went to Optopmap.com to locate offices near my area that had the Optomap machine. Vision Park Family Eye care had it! So after doing my research and reading reviews for the Urbandale location I opted to make an appt here and I'm very happy with my decision. Adam was the assistant for Dr. Larson and he was very smart and asked me pointed questions about my eye health. I told Adam I wanted Optomap and he made it happen. He took me through the machines that measured my vision perception, eye pressure, and Optomap. He was also very good at explaining everything to me step-by-step and telling me when and where I'd be hearing noise from a machine so I wasn't startled. He also was nice enough to clean my old glasses and tighten the screws on them! Dr. Larson was fantastic. He explained everything to me very thoroughly, especially since my eyes are now transitioning into a different phase in life where my eye muscles are slower in focusing my vision. He listened to me and honored my request to go back to my previous contact lens brand. We went over the the results of my Optomap and he explained what each thing (spots, veins, shadows) on the image meant in regards to my health. He explained what I would see on the image if I had macular degeneration, high blood pressure, rips/damage in my eyes, etc. In my opinion, this is a much more thorough and accurate way for any optometrist to view your eye health in its ENTIRETY and also the best way to show you visually how your eye looks and what can be done to improve your eye health. Although it is about $39 to do, Optomap is better than dilating your eye because the doctor can only see segments of your eye at a time when its dilated (like puzzle pieces), while Optomap sees your whole eye (the back of it) all at one time (like the whole puzzle put together). It's also a good way to see the history of your eye health (because the images are saved) so if something different appears it can be addressed quickly. Plus it took less than a minute to do and I had no side effects like I would have with dilating. After my visit with Dr. Larson, I went to check out their glasses frames. Another person (I didn't catch her name but she was very nice and helpful) helped me with my glasses and explained to me all the options I could get with my frames and lenses with my insurance (including adding the option to add anti-glare, transition lenses, thinning the lenses (for me because I have a high prescription), blue-light blockers, etc). Their frame selection was very large and I felt very comfortable trying them on and discussing my options. She measured the distance between my eyes and also measured where my pupils fell within the eye glass lens so my vision in my new glasses would be prefect. She also was very patient with me when I asked her my out-of-pocket costs for everything that insurance wouldn't cover. At checkout, I had asked for itemized receipts for my visit (so I could understand what I had paid for and what insurance was paying) and it was not a problem. I was even given a form to claim a rebate that came with my contact lenses. For convenience, my contact lenses will be mailed straight to my home. And my eye glasses will be ready in 7-10 business days for pick up. This office is fantastic and I'm thankful to have found them! They made my move from Chicago to Iowa and the need to find a new eye doctor seamless.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. I was having issues with my eyes and had multiple…read morequestions that I felt were unanswered by my previous eye care facility. A friend has referred me here and I am so glad they did. Not only did they answer all my questions, but they addressed all my concerns and ordered a trial pair of toric contact lenses for me that come in my strength! I have a lot of issues with one of my eyes so finding the correct fit is hard! They also have me coming in to make sure they properly fit. I feel heard and they are all so nice and helpful. Dr. Larson is very patient and understanding. Thank you Vision Park! You are amazing!

Walked in without an appointment and with a prescription from Des Moines Eye Surgeons. I was…read moregreeted right away right away when I walked in. I had all my paperwork ready and the gentlemen got me into the system and invited me to browse the frames. After a short time a staff member approached me and asked if I had found any frames I liked... I had. Then we sat down and started with the fitting and talking about options and costs... The two for $89 is a little misleading... If you want basic plastic lenses and only need single vision glasses that might be doable. BUT if you want more durable lenses, any type of coating on the lenses, need multifocal/progressive lenses, want insurance on the glasses themselves... It adds up fast. In my case the second set or glasses was going to be 40% off. That's 40% off of the cost before your eye insurance on the first pair. Two pairs of glasses were going to be $360ish (with some changes to the second set to make them cheaper and no insurance on the glasses)... Since my eye insurance only covers about $115 a year on glasses I settled on just one pair and insurance on the glasses. Hopefully if my prescription doesn't change, and I'm careful, I can get a second pair next year. My first set ended up being about $166 total out of pocket (above and beyond what my eye insurance paid) after all was said and done. Multifocal lenses, polycarbonate lenses, anti reflection coating. Ready in two weeks and if I choose to go forward with the second set you can still get the 40% off deal up to 30 days after picking up the first set. Customer service was great. The gal who helped me did a fantastic job and I can't complain about the staff at all. But it's kind of like fast food. What's shown on the sign may not be exactly what you get when you unwrap your sandwich. Just be aware, ask questions, and shop smart.

I have waited a long time to write about my experience at this location. Mostly due to how crazy my…read moreexperience sounds. I mean like bad reality tv/prank tv stuff. So get ready. I made an appointment online (and I had been here once before with a few issues but I thought the first eye exam person not washing her hands after leaving the bathroom or sterilizing the items before I used them was a one off). I arrived on time and I was put thru the check in and exam process. Dr Maria did my exam but as she finished she hadnt addressed the issue of floaters I noted in the appt notes and I had verbally told everyone as I checked in (including her). So I asked again. She turned to the notes and then seemed to start part of the exam over. Then she said that she had to refer me to a specialist. I go out front and a very nice sales person walked me thru how to order 2 pairs of eyeglasses ($450 total) and they will call me when the referral appt is set and when my glasses are ready. I get a call to pick up the glasses and immediately I cannot see clearly out of either lens. The office says it takes time for my eyes to adjust and the Rx is correct. I got a horrible headache trying to wear them a little bit and I couldn't see (it was like Vaseline and walking on a slanted wall). I cannot drive with them and I had to have my husband take me to work. I left work early and had to use PTO because I felt terrible. I even fell in the yard getting out of the car. I call and "Becky" (changing her name here) says I still need to give it more time. I ask if maybe my old prescription could be put in the new frames and she says she has to ask Dr. Maria and get back to me. I call back 3 days later and "Becky" answers and I ask what status is and she says she has to give a note to Dr Maria. I ask what happened to the other note she already gave her? She then blames the Dr for not answering. I don't think the Dr was asked the first time. I wait another day and call again. "Becky" answers and immediately puts me on hold....only for her to pick back up and answer as if it was the first time she was on the phone with me. Then she puts me on hold again when I ask what Dr Maria said about putting my old prescription into new frames and a new person picks up and says her Manager says I need to keep trying to wear the glasses as is! I ask who the manager is and she says "Becky"! I ask to speak to her and she says she is not in the office that day! Like what is happening?!? This person now SUGGESTS that I contact the corporate customer service and gives me the number. So either this employee feels bad for me - or they know nothing will be done. I ask about my referral and she says that can take 6 months! I hang up and immediately call Wolf Eye and they say nobody has requested a referral to them from Americas Best for me. At this point I have wasted so much time and felt ill and lost money. So I call customer service and the associate sounds like she is in shock and says she will investigate. She quickly leaves me a message saying she has asked the STORE to call me. ‍ Guess who called me? Guess?!? "Becky"! She acts like this is the first time we spoke and says she can give me a FULL refund if I return the frames and she is sorry they couldn't help me. I repeat back "a FULL refund?" And she says yes. I return them to be told I only get a full refund on the glasses and not the appointment. I knew it in my gut when she said it. I have to take time off the next month to go to a new eye doctor, and I ask her to see the difference in her Rx and the Americas Best Rx. She says that my prescription went down and they had raised it AND input an astigmatism I do not have! Sorry this is so long. But if you are looking to take time away from work, or your life, to get your eyes checked here....I really want you to know in detail how bad things can be (not including all of the other reviews of bad experiences). It may not happen every time. But it is often enough in the reviews and they obviously make enough money that corporate doesn't care about the service side of things. ‍
