1-Star Review for Payless Cleaners Unacceptable Experience - Damaged Custom Garment and Quiet Payout I brought a pair of custom-made designer pants to Payless Cleaners for standard cleaning and pressing. The pants were in excellent condition when dropped off, and cost me $165 when originally purchased. They were tailored specifically to fit me and held personal and professional value. Unfortunately, after picking them up, I discovered that the waistband had been severely stretched, rendering the pants completely unwearable. When I returned to the cleaners to report the damage, the employee (Linh) acknowledged the issue, measured my waist, and promised a repair. Weeks later, instead of fixing the pants, I received a private message offering reimbursement and asking to keep the matter "between us." While I was eventually refunded, the situation was handled quietly, with no apology, no transparency, and no accountability for damaging a garment that could not be replaced. The bottom line: Payless Cleaners ruined my pants, failed to repair them, and only issued reimbursement after I insisted--and documented everything. If you value your clothing, especially high-quality or custom garments, please think twice before trusting this business. What happened to me should not happen to anyone else. read more

I needed a suit dry cleaned for an important interview and I needed it done quickly. I was able to drop off the suit on a Saturday morning and pick it up on Monday morning. I love Payless as I've used them for three years without a problem. Pick-up times were spot on. However, I recently moved from the Allentown area, but had business in the area recently. I decided to drop off two suits and five shirts for cleaning. When I got to Payless in the afternoon, they were closed after 12 noon for some reason I've forgotten. There was a hand-scrawled note taped to the door that they would be closing around noon for a few days. While having business near Allentown, I still had to divert about 24 miles in total to find out they were closed. They have a website; why in heaven's name would they not notify customers of this situation and have them avoid wasting time & gas? Payless should not mean thoughtlessness too. read more

You get what you pay for. "Payless" can come at a cost and I learned this through trial and error. I would not trust them with valuable items nor any that are delicate. I brought an adored dress that I only wore once to get dry cleaned. I know the condition it was in before I brought it in and have photos of wearing it right before taking it off and packing it in my luggage; the beading was in tact. The dress came back with missing beading and threads coming out; I spoke to the manager who assured me they could find a solution. Yet, upon inspecting the dress she took no accountability and basically told me that because all of the beading work wasn't damaged that it was the fault of the manufacturer for not sewing the beads in correctly. I felt pretty devastated. Not only did they ruin the beading on this one-of-a-kind dress, they also used pins on other delicate items to secure them to the hangers leaving holes. They stapled tags to the inside size and care tags of my clothes, some of them made from delicate material and are no longer readable. I would not take valuable items to them again and learned my lesson; cheap prices can come at a cost. My only saving grace with this experience is that out of the bundle I had dry cleaned was a hand painted Japanese kimono which they did a great job on; but I spoke to a worker beforehand about its delicate nature and that might be why they were careful. read more

I used to go to this place for all of my dry cleaning needs on a weekly basis. One time they completely ruined a new pair of dress pants that I had submitted for cleaning and pressing. When I got home and discovered my ruined dress pant, I returned immediately to the store to show the lady manager. She refused to admit that it had been done at the store. In fact, she denied it completely and implied that I was trying to scam her. I had been a loyal customer for a couple of years. That was my last time to that store and I recommend that you never use this dry cleaner for anything. As they say, you get what you pay for. It's not worth it - go somewhere that is reputable. read more

Took in my pleated cache dress and they ruined it. They didn't even care to tell me when I picked it up. Found out once dress was on and ready to go to a special occasion. Looked in the mirror and half the pleats were gone! Took the dress in the following day and they took no responsibility for the damage. They told me "it is a fault in material". That didn't make sense to me. Took it to another dry cleaners and they told me that it was handled wrong. DO NOT TAKE SPECIAL PIECES TO THIS PLACE! I will never go to Payless Cleaners of Lehigh Valley in Emmaus again. I had two pairs of the same work pants that needed to have hemmed asap. I went to Payless Cleaners on Friday, 6/29. They said I could get them the next day if I paid the rush fee. They changed me $24.00. I had the pants folded to where I wanted them. I asked the seamstress to make sure both pants were hemmed to be the same length, and that both needed 3 inches cut off. When I handed the pants to the seamstress, she did not make a note, pin them, or mark them with chalk like most seamstresses do. When I picked the pants up, one pair was longer than the other. Each of the legs of one of the pants were also not the same length. When I tried to have them fixed, the seamstress tugged and miss aligned the pants to try to make them look as if they were the same length. We realized what she was doing, took the pants, and compared the lengths, and showed her she was wrong. I also tried them on, proving again the lengths were off. Instead of admitting she'd made a mistake, she told me it was my fault because of how I had folded the pants. She passive-aggressively argued with us for several minutes, and made side comments blaming me. She told me she could have it fixed by Saturday, 7/7, which was four days away. (A week after they were supposed to have been done.) I reminded her I'd paid extra to have it rushed. She begrudgingly told us to return in one hour to pick them up. (Side note: I have had clothing tailored at a variety of places, but this is the first time I'd had difficulty.) We returned one hour later, and I tried the pants on. The lengths still looked off. She said it was the cut of the pants that made it look uneven. She took out a measuring tape to prove they were even. It turned out the outer seam was 1" off, and the inseam was 3/4" off. We asked her if she had measured the pants before giving them to us. Instead of answering our question, she glared at us, and again, blamed me, saying this was all because of the way I had folded the pants. I reminded her I had asked that she ensure both pairs of pants had 3" cut off, and were the same lengths. I said that it was no excuse, especially now, when she was supposed to have corrected the error. She said she had forgotten my instructions, but continued to say this was all because of how I had folded the pants. I asked her when the pants would be ready. She said to come back on Thursday, 7/5. I returned for the third time on 7/5 to pick the pants up. At first they couldn't find my pants, and I wasn't sure if they were inefficient, or pretending the the pants were missing out of spite. They eventually located them, and finally, the lengths were correct. As we left, the seamstress yet AGAIN, said all this happened because of how I'd folded the pants. She said, "Next time when you come-" but I interrupted her and said we would not be returning, and walked out the door. First, the seamstress tried to pretend the lengths were correct, and make excuses as to why they didn't look right. Then she admitted she'd forgotten my instructions, but blamed me instead of herself. She continued to blame me, like a broken record, rather than admit fault. She also failed to check her work, all while being condescending and insulting. If you want to be ripped off, and have your clothes be poorly tailored with no apology, and be blamed for it, be sure to go to Payless Cleaners of Lehigh Valley, 691 State Avenue, Emmaus, Pa. read more

This place is truly amazing and I cannot understand why it does not have many reviews. Anything you could possibly want drycleaned for $2.49. I have been coming here for years and have priced other cleaners to have my winter coats drycleaned and was quoted between $15-$20. At Payless drycleaners I only pay $2.49. I have not brought anything really soiled to them, but they have done a great job getting out small stains and refreshing my garments. They are very busy but still manage to get my items back to me within a day or two. Just wish they were a little closer. read more

We used these guys for a long time without problem but after a while shirts ended up coming back with rips and tears which I thought were from my husband but after a few months a shirt came home with an iron mark burned into it. Picked up my coat which was supposedly dry cleaned and upon inspecting at home it was obvious that it was not done. Returned to Payless and brought to the attention of the owner. Some of the areas I pointed out were a flap still containing pet hair and stains that could be scraped off with fingernail. She laughingly said the coat had to have been cleaned because they do not make mistakes but maybe they just didn't do a good job and would redo it. This was a rather expensive coat and I pointed out they may have started it and quit because it seems the finish on the material was altered ad possibly ruined and for this reason I would rather take it elsewhere. Upon requesting my money back I was told they do not refund for any reason nor would they ever be responsible for any damage done to a garment. Guess this is why you must pay upfront! Had previously used for the cleaning and pressing of shirts but will now drive across town for all of my needs because they value $2.49 more than they do their reputation. read more

They also had a suit that I dropped off and wouldn't let me take the suit without paying for all the items - even the ruined chair covers !! Yes, this dry cleaners is inexpensive (which is its only upside) but I should not have to clean my clothing BEFORE I bring it in to be cleaned. My pants had hair on them from a pet, and I was asked to take them home and clean them first, then I could bring the pants back to be cleaned by them. If I wanted to or had the time to do it myself I wouldn't pay someone to do it!?!?! read more

Third time, not so charming... We have been going here for 3+ years now and the $2.49 dry cleaning price was the draw. It is a bit out of the way from our home but not so far that if we accumulated clothes it was worth the trip every 2-3 weeks. If I rated this based on frustration with them it would only be one star but I am trying to be fair. Most of the time we have no issues. But, at least once a year I get back a dress shirt that has been ruined. The latest was a white dress shirt that had very clear ironing marks all over the back. Each time a shirt is ruined it is always my fault or the fault of the clothing and never their fault and each time they have refused to refund the cleaning cost. The first time they tried to fix the problem without success. The last two times they did not even offer that much. My recommendation, take your dry cleaning here and the savings will pay for anything they damage but do not get shirts laundered here. Plenty of places offer shirt cleaning at or about the same price. And, don't waste your time complaining or arguing with them, it won't do you any good. read more
