Please stay away from this place. Financed a car and after driving the car a few miles the check engine lit up and there was smoke inside the car. Contacted them right away and had to leave the car for them to fix it. Fast forward 2 weeks I get a call from these scammers and was told that the car was ready. Went to pick up the car and once again the check engine light lit up again. At this point I'm so frustrated because I have lost 2 days of work driving back and forth. Went ahead and got the car checked by a mechanic and was told that the repairs that the car needed exceeded 6k. I should have read the reviews and stayed away from this junk yard. Do NOT waste your money here! These people are con artists. I would give 0 stars if possible. My husband and I bought an 03 Subaru here on 10/31. Below is a list of SOME of the issues we had with Payless Auto Wholesale. I really wanted to be happy with my experience. Lou started off as extremely helpful and willing to work with us. -Lou assured us Payless buys all their subarus from a Subaru Dealer in Jersey City. I bought the Carfax myself since Payless does not offer them. The carfax says the car car bought at auction in New York. When confronted with this info, Les showed us the titles for purchase of the car. He bought it in Paterson, NJ, and it wasn't from a Subaru dealer. (I still took the risk because thr carfax showed routine maintenance.) -I recommend you research the 3rd Party "Warranty" they offer before paying $300 for it. -Got the car 30 miles after leaving Payless before having an issue. The coolant reservoir was bubbling and the engine bay was splattered with coolant. Lou and Les gave me and my husband the run around. We called Payless to tell them of our issues. No one would talk to my husband since the purchase was in my name. First, Lou wasn't in the office. Then Lou needed to talk to his manager, who was sick. Then the manager wasn't in yet. Every time Lou promised to call me back and never did. After I kept calling and calling over thr span of 3 days I got in touch with Les, who told me I didn't know what I was talking about and the head gaskets on the car were fine. I should have been able to make it HOME with my vehicle before the issues started. -Had the car towed to a mechanic, who confirmed blown head gaskets. The Subaru also needed a new clutch and timing belt. $2,000+ in repairs. Avoid this joke of a business at all costs. read more

Purchased a cargo van from this dealership and the first day the AC system was not working correctly. They told me it may need to be recharged. I took it to a local shop who wanted to charge to put dye inside because it appeared to be leaking. Now, the compressor is seized up and unable to drive the van. Repair cost is now $1300. The two front tires I was informed from a PA inspection shop they would not pass. During the same inspection, it was identified of having a hole in the floor board driver side. Brakes are also squealing. I informed the business more than once and they don't respond regarding these issues. read more

UPDATE April 2023: I was forced by this dealership to take this review down when filing an insurance claim. They outright refused to send my bank the cars bill of sale required for the process. Extorted me to take this review down in order for them to finally send the paperwork (after 3 tries they finally got the right address) in order for me to complete the process. They also never transferred the title from the previous owner to themselves before selling me the vehicle, causing the DMV to have to track down this previous owner for verification. Again causing many, many more delays. Just now putting this review back up as the process has finally ended.. Wanted to make sure they couldn't mess up the process anymore than they already had. October 2021: Purchased a car from them and had it shipped cross country so all of my interactions with the dealer were either over the phone or online. Took about 3 months from purchase date to get the car to me because they repeatedly sent paperwork to the wrong location. After asking them to change the address (i had moved) it was sent to my prior address (happened 4 separate times). For about 5 days they did not answer a phone call, text, or email, after they returned i was told one employee was on vacation and the other had covid. While I understand vacations and sick leave they didn't even bother to let me know, and they're voicemail box was full, with no message about the leave. After finally getting the car ready for shipping i was promised a set of tires and rims to make up for the delays. No surprise to me they weren't in the car. Now finally on day of delivery i receive the car and it's battery is dead, and the car has 15 miles of gas in it. Rear axle blown, as well as all wheel speed sensors, and rear left baring assembly. I called to ask for reimbursement to replace the battery and i was told i was getting a call right back on a different line... Still waiting on the return call. Don't buy from these people, buying and shipping a car off facebook marketplace would have been easier. Lou was straight up irritating to work with. read more

If you're looking for a reliable car DO NOT COME HERE! READ ALL THE BAD REVIEWS BECAUSE IT IS TRUE THIS PLACE IS NOTHING BUT A SKETCHY SCAM! My fiance worked with Lou, AKA Big Lou, Les, and Alex for the past couple of days. Nothing but bull**** that came out of all their mouths. They tried selling him a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Gli with no a/c ripped headliner and no working e-brake Yes, they were working with him on the price, but it all started the first time he drove an hour and a half to go there.. They didn't want to fix the a/c because winter is almost here, and they have no freon, so they said. Les specifically said he didn't want to spend $700 for a tank of freon, being so close to winter. Didnt want to fix the e brake with a standard car mind you. Kinda need the e-brake cable so the car doesn't roll away when you shut it off. If you're spending 7400 for this car, I'd expect not to have to put the car in gear every time I shut it off. Then, having to sign an as-is should just throw off something sketchy. So today, My fiance decided to go look at the car again and maybe take it home. Alex told him a different price, and when my fiance said Lou and Les agreed on a certain price, Alex said well, today is a different day. WHAT HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. Finally, Alex and my fiance agreed on a price. So my fiance decided to bring his code reader today, and it threw a code, but the check engine light wasn't on. How convenient. So they either took the fuse out or the light was broken. Mind you, Alex told my fiance that the a/c was fixed even though a few days prior, they had no freon and that they did a coolant flush. So today, he was able to look at the coolant. The other day, it was too low to be able to reach it. It LOOKED LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK, so thick and cloudy you couldn't see through it. So they most likely topped off the coolant, and by the way, they actually overfilled it. You're telling me the person who did the coolant isn't mechanically inclined enough to know something is off. USUALLY, WHEN THE COOLANT LOOKS LIKE THAT, IT IS A SIGN OF ENGINE COOLANT MIXING WITH ENGINE OIL, EITHER THROUGH A CRACK IN THE BLOCK, HEAD, OR HEAD GASKET PROBLEM. How can someone at this place not know that this car is this messed up? Mind you, yes, the car drove beautifully, with no noises or smells, no overheating or lights on the dash. But there is a mechanic that works there for a reason. They specifically lied to our faces that they did a coolant flush today right before he got there. Alex said in a text to my fiance, " car is ready REPLACED COOLANT AND A/C IS COLD ALREADY. SEEMS FINE NO LEAKS." How deceiving and UNPROFESSIONAL. I don't understand how they are still in business. I thank God that my fiance is mechanically knowledgeable enough to know that there was something up with the car once he saw the coolant. I bought a 2001 Ford Windstar in March 2017. When I bought it, I gave a list of things to be fixed from my mechanic. They assured me the things were fixed but provided no paperwork. I brought it back 2x because the check engine light kept coming on, it was making a loud noise, and the traction control warning kept coming on. After letting a different mechanic fix the loud noise and replace the brakes, the van continue drive and sound better. 8/19/2019 there was a fuel spillage and fire occurred. I can only thank god for getting me and my family out of van in time. Also thanks to the paterson fire department for quick response, I would have felt so bad if others were injured and other people property was damaged. Had the nerve to tell me my insurance would cover it. Then charge me $299 for documents to get my plates, title and register and I go to pick it up and again has the nerve to tell me they need to charge me for it and then shuddered to explain what the $299 was. The last review I left for a car dealership was a one star review for Jeep and since then I have become extremely wary of car dealerships but my experience here couldn't have been better. I got sick of lease payments and decided to finally purchase a used car for my own. What I liked about working with Big Lou was the clear transparency which is very difficult to be found in most other dealerships. I have worked with 4 dealerships throughout my duration as a driver for nearly 13 years. Since the start, they were prompt to provide me with the Carfax report and what I liked the most was that they didn't play around with the numbers. No surprise fees or whatever else bullcrap other dealerships surprise you with out of nowhere. This is a no bull shit no game playing with numbers kind of dealership. I purchased the car on a tuesday and by the following week they had my title and registration ready to go. If I need to purchase a car again, I will definitely hit this place up first.
