And they were also one of the few that had appt availability within the week. They do use residents and nurse practitioners, so sometimes you will see them instead of a dr. But I have felt confident in their assessment, diagnosis, and care. Plus, the resident is working under a doctor who will double check the diagnosis. And the nurse practitioner will also sometimes pull in a doctor to confirm her diagnosis. I like that they are pretty prompt with appointments (I always get taken back within 10 minutes of arriving) and when I had to get a blood test done, it was easy to just walk across the hallway to do it. I will probably use this clinic as my primary care office in the future bc of the ease and availability of making appointments.

Fast forward 10 years. I remember how much I appreciated Dr. Modesta's care and i knew her clinic accepted Medicare, so I scheduled an appointment. Her office staff, MaryJane, called to get my current insurance information. Then two days later I was informed that I had an outstanding balance--from 10 years ago--that needed to be paid before my appointment in early May. I returned the call and asked for clarification as to the charges and mentioned that I had not received a bill/statement at the time. MaryJane said she would get that to me. Next day I get a call that the charges went into collections. to send a bill for a couple hundred dollars to collections without even sending me a statement that to me crosses the ethical professional boundary that I cannot overlook. MaryJane assured me that since this charge was in collections, it would not affect my ability to see Dr. Modesta. Dr Modesta is a great doctor but her office practices are unprofessional. I do not know if it has improved in 10 years, but I am not keeping my appointment to find out.

Once he came into the exam room and told me he could hear me wheezing from across the hall but of course he did NOT address my loud wheezing. When I left his office I immediately went down to the 3rd. floor to my pulmonologist office. After seeing a intake nurse my pulmonologist saw me immediately (I refused going to the hospital since I have 20 yr. old cat & didn't know anyone I'd trust taking care of him yet)! My last, last straw came last year when I had FINALLY found a interventional radiologist who has the expertise and experience to remove a 10 year dwell time IVC filter and I requested a referral to see this doctor. Dr. Hernandez refused even after I showed him the emails between this Dr. and me. Believe it or not, Dr. Hernandez thought the emails were from a scammer even though the emails came from Banner Anderson hospital. I even showed Dr. Hernandez the email after this Dr. had pulled my IVC filter scan and said my IVC filter legs was embedded in my IVC!!! I came out so upset/near tears one of his office staff came over and asked the problem. Once I explained she offered to go talk to him. Praise God, she came back with the referral I requested. Since this was potentially a very dangerous situation in a week/after getting my ins. approval I was in surgery getting my embedded IVC filter removed @ Banner Anderson hospital by the Dr. who Dr. Hernandez 'claimed' was a scammer! Need I say after that I found another PCP! Let me end by saying, if you do not have a serious or complex medical history by all means Dr. Hernandez maybe a good Dr. for you.
