Dr. Amanda Modesta is the best doctor I've ever had. What I personally appreciate most is that it's easy to get a same or next day appointment. I never have to wait more than 15-20 minutes. Dr. Modesta keeps up with all my health needs including contacting me when it's time for various checkups, vaccinations, blood draws, etc. Her office staff is always friendly and welcoming but not always efficient. This is a teaching office, which I appreciate. However, as interns come and go, I believe some are a bit overwhelmed. My last visit with Dr Modesta at Shafa Medical was about 10 years ago. She is a great doctor who cares about her patients. When my insurance changed, I had to go to a different clinic. Fast forward 10 years. I remember how much I appreciated Dr. Modesta's care and i knew her clinic accepted Medicare, so I scheduled an appointment. Her office staff, MaryJane, called to get my current insurance information. Then two days later I was informed that I had an outstanding balance--from 10 years ago--that needed to be paid before my appointment in early May. I returned the call and asked for clarification as to the charges and mentioned that I had not received a bill/statement at the time. MaryJane said she would get that to me. Next day I get a call that the charges went into collections. to send a bill for a couple hundred dollars to collections without even sending me a statement that to me crosses the ethical professional boundary that I cannot overlook. MaryJane assured me that since this charge was in collections, it would not affect my ability to see Dr. Modesta. Dr Modesta is a great doctor but her office practices are unprofessional. I do not know if it has improved in 10 years, but I am not keeping my appointment to find out. read more

She is an excellent Doctor...her care is above and beyond ...if she moved to another state I would honestly fly to her for my care. So I went in today for my scheduled appointment for a mammogram referral. The front office lady told my husband and I that our dr. was not our pcp, even though we have been going to her for over a year and a half, then charged my card and told me I was not able to see the dr. She also couldn't refund my co-pay, and there was no supervisor to talk to. She told my husband that he couldn't see his dr., who's name is on all of his prescriptions, because the computer said she was not his pcp, even though I told her she is. He is diabetic and has been going to her for a year and a half to two years. General incompetence, be better, you just lost two patients. read more

I have been going to Dr. Modesta-Keyhani for about a year with a variety of issues. She and her staff are always attentive. The fact that they can do blood work on-site saves time. The results are always available within a reasonable time. You can go into her convenient online portal to review the results. You can send an email to her, and she responds. Immediately. I cannot say enough positive things about her, her staff, and the excellent treatment that I have received. I have never had to wait to get in to see her. I have never seen a more disorganized medical office. Inaccurate Billing statements, lack of structure, and unethical policies. The office staff are all very uneducated in billing, insurance, and standard practice. I had a billing discrepancy that two hours and 5 staff members to solve. Apparently a previous contractor who managed their billing didn't run my primary insurance for an office visit 16 months ago. The contractor told shafa medical that I had over $500 in outstanding payments, so shafa medical sent me the outrageous bill, and the shafa medical clinic office told me to contact THEIR previous contractor. Clients should never be responsible for those discrepancies. Why am I at fault for the contractor's mistakes? Also beware, "standard office practice" is charging $94 for an office visit, and not regarding a copay. The only focus is the deductible and if that has been met. I tried explaining a what a copay is to the office assistant and she replied that copays are not eligible until deductibles are met. She replied that she called our insurance, but she didn't talk to any representatives from our insurance company. We called our insurance company in front of her and he confirmed that she never spoke with a representative. He explained that we have a $25 copay with in network providers. She then had to be educated on the phone by the insurance re about how our insurance works, and how she should bill our company. Would not recommend. read more

Well, I saw the Dr. back in January 2016. Her practice worked with the insurance I had at the time. It was a one-time, 5-minute visit for an RX refill, as I changed jobs and had to find a new doctor. I never heard a peep from this office again. Fast forward 2.5 years, and here we are. I just received a call this morning from a debt collector, telling me I owe $185 in bills. I've NEVER received a bill from this office (I would never not pay a doctor's bill), and despite talking to the office, the billing department and the debt collector, not a single person is able to provide a breakdown of the cost of my visit. My insurance covered an additional $145 of this bill - So what I'm really wondering is a) What happened in that 5 minute visit to warrant a total of $300+????? and b) WHY DID I NEVER RECEIVE A BILL? Turns out - they wrote my address down wrong. Now I owe a debt collector $185 for a 5 minute visit in a dingy office to get an rx refill of a medication I had been taking for over 5 years. read more

I had been a patient here for several years. I recently had an appointment scheduled when I received a phone call, probably two days before I was scheduled to go in. There was an employee from the doctor office saying I owe almost $500 in doctor visits bills dating all the way back to 2016. How does a patient who comes in routinely, suddenly have $500 worth of bill that are two years old!? The employee told me, if I can't pay about half of what I owe, I can't have my appointment with the doctor. I told her, cancel my appointment then. I asked the billing person to send me an itemized list of all of my visits and billing from 2016 to present. That was about a month ago. Haven't received the letter with any details. I found this clinic through Zoc Doc back in November of 2017. I had started seeing this primary care doctor for regular checkups/medical needs in 2017, and then did not need to see a doctor until 2019. On Monday, I found out I need a TB (PPD) skin test done for recent employment I had received. I called up the clinic and made an appointment on Monday, June 3rd for Wednesday, June 5th at 9:30 a.m., as well as a follow-up appointment for Friday, June 7th. Also, when I called, the receptionist informed me that my insurance was not on file (even though my insurance had not changed and I had paid with my insurance in the past) and that I had an overdue charge of $30.00 from 11/2017. She gave me 3 numbers to call in the billing department to take care of the charge. Immediately after getting off of the phone with the receptionist, I called the billing department. 2 numbers later, I left a Voice message for the woman I was told I needed to speak to. She did not return my call the rest of that day or on Tuesday. On Wednesday June 5th, I called the billing department again promptly at 8:00 a.m. to take care of my overdue charge. The woman said that I had called in the payment back in 11/17, but perhaps someone had not sent the funds over to the clinic? I checked my bank statements to find that indeed, the charge had not been made to my account and called back and paid the $30 overdue fee. So, two years before, when I had called in to pay my bill, someone didn't do their job correctly and didn't transfer my money over to the clinic to take care of my co-pay. That morning, I arrived at the clinic at 9:25 a.m. for my 9:30 a.m. appointment. I walked in to find the office dark, door locked, and not a soul in site (the office was suppossed to be open at 9:00 a.m.). I knocked and called the office phone. I checked to make sure it was in fact June 5th, that I had the correct location etc. I stood there for 15 minutes, calling the office phone, only to hear it ringing inside. At 9:45 a.m., I needed to go to another appointment, so I left a Voice message on the office phone. I still have not received a call back with any explanation why no one was at the office to have my appointment. Be wary of this clinic. Literally the worst doctor I have ever encountered. Her staff is incompetent and unprofessional. I have waited over and hour just to see her every time I have done. They nickel and dome everything and try to get you to come in every month for refills. They also lie to you and have neglected to send me a refund on an overpayment they took from me for 4 months now after I have asked 5 times. The worst of it is last time they didn't have any record of the appointment I made online but still talked me into staying and assured me they could get me in right away..... an hour later I left! No doctor and they said would still be another 30 min because there was telemedicine calls she needed to make. I told them not to run any test on my urine and throw it away. So I don't post reviews often, but I want to make sure that others are aware of some poor service I encountered. I was trying to get established as a new patient here. I called and made great rapport with the front office staff. She took my information efficiently, and I felt comfortable coming the next week for the appointment. When I came in today, I was a little late but was still warmly greeted. I began filling out paperwork; and they took my insurance card to verify (which I was told they had done already at the phone screening). And when they verified my card today, they said "because this is a PPO, and it doesn't have the copay listed, we can charge based off the deductible." I told them they had verified with me prior to the appointment that my copay was to be $25. Not only was this a whole waste of time because everyone knows they have to accept the copay and send the bill to insurance for the rest, they should have taken care of this prior to me even coming in today since they already had my insurance card information on file. I hope whoever goes here as a new patient is wary because i felt like my money mattered more than my word about my copay. I will never come back here. read more

I want to share an update that I thought was important. When I first came to this clinic it was for chronic fatigue and other symptoms. I have a history of thyroid problems and was concerned things had gotten worse. I got bloodwork done and it came back positive for thyroid antibodies and low low low iron, but even in light of this Dr. Modesta-Keyhani ignored the results and instead told me I had a gluten allergy. I am a researcher, and all the hard evidence points to gluten "allergies" not being a real thing - and the fact that she had test results in front of her telling her verbatim what was wrong with me and she STILL went for the gluten is ridiculous. 2 years later and I have been treated for iron anemia and Hashimotos by an endocrinologist and all of my symptoms are gone. read more

Initially, I loved the really tiny office and ridiculously long wait times cause the doc was so nice. As time wore on, this became tedious. The last straw was going to her office for "clearance" before an eye operation. It took me 6 months to get the eye operation and I needed all lab results to be in before a certain date or I would loose the OR spot. I repeatedly called her office wondering why they had not sent in the results to the eye doc. The latter also called her office up until the day before my scheduled OR appointment. Needless to say, my OR appt. was cancelled and I have to wait another 6 months of seeing double before I can be scheduled again. Evidently Dr Modesta saw an elevated cholesterol and liver enzymes in my lab work, but I never heard a word from the office. I could have explained both as a side effect from a drug I was taking, but I was not given the courtesy of an explanation. Unprofessional is inadequate to describe this doctor/patient relationship. Doctor Modesta needs to retrain her professional staff or hire some qualified folks to run her office. And get back to your patients in a timely fashion. This practice is poorly run. read more

This place does not even deserve one star. The most disorganized Dr and staff EVER! No joke almost a two hour wait and there was only one patient in front of me. I wanted a script refill and it took 3 hours. And then the Dr didn't put the date on the script so I had to go back. They were trying to charge me 80 from 2 years ago. I could go on and on. The absolute worst experience I've ever had with a healthcare provider. Beware! Do NOT come here. My 30 minute appointment turned into 2.5 hours. They will try to push unnecessary tests on you so they can make more money. They also try to force you to come in for unnecessary appointments. The doctor is extremely dismissive of your health concerns and is under-educated on drug interactions. I repeat: DO NOT GO HERE. I have been coming here for a few years now and have never had any issues until last week. I called in the morning for a same day appt due to being in a lot of pain. I was able to make the appt, left work early to be seen. I get there and explained that my bank info had been compromised so i had no way to pay my $35 co-pay, but i said i would sign anything saying i am responsible for it. She refused to see me!!! Over $35!?!? i left and will never return!! Ended up going to urgent care to find out i had KIDNEY STONES!!!! Medical bills take sometimes months and years to work through the system. I check my insurance portal routinely because this does happen. I have to say that these reviews on disorganization couldn't be further from what I experienced and I am very picky. The software, reminder, patient portal, and Dr. Modesta-Keyhani herself treats me as if I am the only patient in her practice. My entire family sees her now. I went in thinking I was dying of cervical cancer, and she immediately saw there were other possibilities and she had it right when everyone else had it wrong. Of course word spreads and wait times can be what they are. 20 years ago I waited 2 and 3 hours on my OB-GYN as there was so much demand for her time. Her practice wouldn't have the people there if she were not the best of the best. I have found a doctor in Arizona who will guide my medical care for the rest of my days if she doesn't retire first. There has never in all my 60 years been a doctor like her for me. Love this woman and her staff. read more

So disappointing. Went for a new patient visit, soar throat and dry spot on my elbow. They ran a lot of different blood work, sent it to two different labs.  One paid and one didn't. I called the doctors office they said they don't check what your insurance will cover.  They send certain labs to one place and other labs to another place.  They said people that have been going there for a long time no to have them send it to their covered lab.  It would be nice to know that and to know they were going to order more labs that what they told me about read more
