Julie provides a safe and fun experience for dogs in her care. I found out that dog parks can be dangerous, because some unsupervised & untrained dogs can get aggressive. Once I had a scary experience at Dog Beach. We just got our 5-month-old Goldendoodle, Cheddar, back from a two-week training and boarding program, and we couldn't be happier! For a second dog, I wanted a little senior dog who just wanted a place to sleep for their golden years. My boyfriend wanted an active young big dog. We compromised and got an active young big dog. We really cannot say enough about how much Julie & Pawsitive Foundation Dog Training has helped our 6 mo old (challenging!!) Labrador Retriever. Julie has been working with us since our puppy was just a little over 3 mos old, we'd had him about 5 weeks. Labrador puppies are notorious for being more of a handful than some breeds due to being 'mouth' dogs, especially in the earlier stages of their lives...aka, VERY puppy bitey [this is not at all cute or charming, by way, he was drawing blood and sincerely hurting us], he was into everything even leashed-in house, pretty stubborn, barely containable - basically he's been challenging to work with in the early days, weeks and months of having him. Thankfully, Julie welcomes a challenge! Just a single, 1:1, in-home session with him, and we had significant hope, the start of improvement after not really getting anywhere ourselves in the beginning. (Note to new pet parents: engage Julie ideally before or immediately when you plan to bring your dog home, don't wait for challenges to build, & hope they may just pass like we did - we had another wonderful Labrador prior to our puppy, so we thought we knew what we were doing..guess what, we didn't - every dog is different and puppies bring their own specific challenges! If you've previously adopted or owned adult dogs, this is a whole new exercise in patience and learning how to work with a developing animal.) This is a strange review because I ended up not working with Julie, but I was so impressed by her that I wanted to share my experiences. I have a very stubborn, difficult dog with a lot of behavioral issues (severe separation anxiety among other things). She spent a good amount of time with me, listened to what I was saying, and gave me some great advice. Julie is "pawsitively" amazing. I have an 11 month old American Bulldog who is going through a pretty good fear period and also has issues with leash reactivity around other dogs. I was at my wits end with the behavior and finally reached out to Julie (wish I had done it sooner). I met Julie at the Costa Mesa Bark Park and of course, my dog barked at her right away. Julie was calm, cool, and collected about it. She began speaking to me and when she felt Rylie was ready, she let Rylie approach her. There's just something about Julie that dogs like. Rylie went "full-wiggle" and had loved Julie ever since. That first day she gave me some ways to deescalate Rylie when she was being reactive. And gave me homework to work on. About a week later, Julie came to our apartment and sat with us and we came up with a more structured routine for Rylie. Julie took her for a walk and modeled for us wha we can do to make Rylie feel more secure. Rylie goes to Julie's one day a week (soon 2 days) for day training. It's AMAZING. She has my leash reactive dog walking in a pack walk after just 3 days! She send photos and videos of your dog to show you their progress. Julie is seriously the best and she makes me feel so positive about my dog's behavior and fixing it. It's only been about 4 weeks of working with Julie and my dog is already so much better. Cooper is an 18 month old retriever mix puppy with a whole lot of energy. We gave Cooper to Julie for two weeks and he came home a calmer dog. Julie is absolutely amazing! We ended up with a 7-month old golden retriever as his previous owners had to rehome him and reached out to us. We got our little man and he was the sweetest, most loving dog with virtually no manners! There were just too many issues to address on our own and decided we needed a professional to guide us through this. We did a ton of research and were hesitant on board and train because we didn't want Kona to end up crated for the vast majority of the day, until we found Pawsitive Foundation & Julie! One of the first things that got me digging more was that Julie does the board and train in her home. This really appealed to me because Kona is our companion, he's with us throughout the day and again, I didn't want him crated for the majority of the day. Also, many behaviors are seen when he was just hanging out with us (counter surfing), stuff that a trainer wouldn't be able to see or correct if they were working with him outside for a couple hours a day. The other part that I loved is that she is very particular about how many dogs she will take on at once, that way she can dedicate her time. On top of that, she has a doggy daycare so when our big boy wasn't being trained he could be playing! And boy did he play!! Julie sent multiple videos a day as well as updates on how he was progressing. It was so helpful to see him having a great time and learning. Then came time for us to get him back. I was so nervous, what if the most important issues to us weren't addressed? What if he came home and we were still in over our head and the training went out the door? Julie does a check out session and showed us exactly what we need to carry into the home and answered all of my million questions; she made sure we were armed with the knowledge and confidence to keep Kona on his path. Even after we came home, if I had questions for certain scenarios I would text her and she'd get right back to me! It was so helpful since you think you've got it down, then you come home and pup throws you for a loop! Now on to Kona, I really don't want to say he came home as a new/ different dog because he is the same goofy boy just has manners! It's amazing. He definitely tested us (and still does here and there) but we were no longer spending our entire day/night telling him "no" and trying to get him to behave. He knew what was expected and that what Ms. Julie expected of him continued at home. He's done brilliantly with all the issues we had. Our kitty is now warming up to him because he's not so hyper and doesn't decide that "chase" is a game she would enjoy. He merely hangs out and lets her come at her terms. We've actually been able to have our movie / dinner nights and Kona sits in his place and doesn't go after our food - this would not have been possible before training. It's definitely been a great experience and we are thankful to have found Julie!! read more
