We already had 2 well-adjusted dogs when we adopted our third, a 7-month old puppy with issues our older dogs never had...so we took the new guy for private training in Sarah's "Fundamentals Program". Sarah spent several hours with us during the initial session (in the evening, so both human parents could be there), getting to know our dog, our concerns, teaching us techniques, literally walking us through drills with a slip lead (since leash reactivity was one of our pup's biggest issues), and observing both of us 'parents' and giving us individual pointers. It wound up being literally life-changing for us and the puppers. Ever watch a YouTube dog training video, or any episode of Cesar Milan, where some out-of-control punk pup is rehabilitated into a responsible canine citizen within the span of a few minutes of screentime, and think 'it'll never work like that with MY dog'? (I have...cuz we were pretty desperate before heading to Naturally Driven K9). Well it's not instantaneous in real-life...but spend a few hours with a kickass trainer like Sarah, and it CAN be that easy to transform the puppers (or your relationship with your puppers) if you're consistent in applying what you've learned. It's not like we weren't trying before, it's just that our pre-Sarah attempts at training him were ineffective. One of the open secrets about Sarah's profession must be that 'dog training' is just as much (if not more) about training the humans. Dog 'parents' can run on the defensive side--so the fact that Sarah teaches us humans in a way that's expert, constructive, but comes across as non-threatening, makes her training so easy to be receptive to. She's clearly studied many different philosophies of dog training (and continues to do so), but she's a dog parent just like the rest of us and seems to have adapted the best aspects of other trainers she's learned from, and her own experience, into her own common sense, effective style. Leash walks used to be dreadful ordeals for us as well as the puppy, and she's given us the tools to make our walks happy and productive instead of loud, stressful, and aggressive. Long way of saying, we love Sarah, and can't thank her enough--the things she's taught us about how to interact with our puppy has improved our communication with the older dogs as well--and by the time we returned for our 1 hour followup session with Sarah only 2 weeks later, it was like we were bringing back a completely different dog. We never got anywhere close to where we felt safe with our pups. One dog in our class had the "Hannibal lector" mask on and would lunge at our dog each time she went near. I referred neighbors to her but after classes we felt we had overpaid and was severely under delivered. A nice person but I feel no differently with our dogs after paying over $500 than I did at Petsmart and $100.

I know my dog and if you don't have a treat he won't listen to a thing you say! But it worked! We went through the basic training class and then the off lead training. Our dog is easily excitable and wants nothing more than to play with the other dogs, so keeping his attention was difficult. But over the time we were there our dog learned to listen and obey and have fun while doing it. I would say our dog is one of the more difficult cases and he made amazing progress! About a week before we started taking our dog here, I was mentioning Cedarwoods to a coworker. There was someone working on the electrical just there for the day, he heard me talking and said he took his dog there and loved it! And that's the feedback I get from everyone who's gone to Cedarwoods. I highly recommend Cedarwoods! Every dog can benefit from the training! It's worth every penny.

(It was a week long stay) Our dog Jade is terrified of strangers so being a new dog mom I was worried they whole time I was gone. The front desk…read morestaff was really friendly and helpful -- they took their time and pointed me toward some sweet dogs that seemed like a good match. While I was there, I noticed a little pug and asked about her. They told me she wasn't available for adoption. I could see why -- her butt was prolapsed and there was liquid poop and blood all over her kennel. She was panting, whining, and frantically trying to get out. It was really upsetting to see. I spoke with the manager, who told me not to worry, that they had it under control and the dog was fine. I left feeling terrible. I came back a few days later and the poor pug was still in the same condition -- prolapse, bloody diarrhea, the whole thing. She still looked miserable. I'm really concerned that they don't have the animals' best interest at heart. A prolapsed rectum is painful, and there was clearly blood coming from her. I just don't understand how a person could look at that and think it's okay to leave her like that. This experience has me seriously questioning the level of care the animals are getting. I wanted to support the shelter, but I left feeling heartbroken and worried. I'm still looking to adopt a dog, but after this experience I don't feel confident adopting from here.

I tried again two days later, same experience happened. Finally a day later they told me the cat I chose was already gone and told me to just make an appointment whenever I see a new cat arrives. I did but then the lady said I can't make an appointment because the cat just came in, need 72 hours. She can't guarantee I would get the cat though. I don't want to waste more time, I went to a different shelter where people know how to run the business. I got the cat!

They were super barky, they would pull us when they were leashed, lunge at every and any dog that crossed our path. We are not even talking dog parks here :( we learned that as dog-parents, we pretty much sucked. We continued to walk these guys weekly and it was a super-stressful experience. Our walks that we used to enjoy were becoming shorter because our dogs just weren't very polite and were it seemed afraid of more and more things..when one would have an issue, it would impact the other. We love our dogs so we started asking around about trainers. We learned that there are great trainers around but the first of which we met did not accept "barky" dogs and our dogs are :( Luckily, we were introduced to Dani. We signed up for Basic Boss for the two boys. The dogs loved Dani and her family! Good thing as Basic Boss is two weeks of boarding. We missed them but in two weeks, our dogs had learned a lot! Mind you, they were far from perfect at that point (unless Dani was handling them). We continued to work with them using Dani's techniques and we are now at a point where we will be out in public walking them and they will get compliments on their manners from complete strangers. This has truly been life changing for them and us as we are able to go places with other dogs and even interact with other dogs and people! Dani makes it so easy and they learned to not fear and actually enjoy socializing with other dogs now. It has been about a year since their initial training but they have been back to board and Dani snuck some training in then as well. She has a puppy program called "Baby Boss" and I believe she does some day and play as well. Word has gotten out so she books up so definitely plan ahead! Your dog will have a blast and thank you and you will no longer feel guilty. Thanks Dani for changing our lives!! We are now able to have so much more fun with our dogs!!! When our dog had a partial tear in his CCL (hind leg, stifle (knee) ligament), the Trail Dogs hike leader he was out with saw that he was favoring that leg, and then _carried_him_back_to_the_vehicle. These people know dogs. They care about dogs. They provide a social canine experience, along with the physical activity and freedom to BE a dog with other dogs, while moving through nature as a pack. Also: Trail Dogs has been flexible when we have needed to make schedule changes. Great communications by text before pick-up and return.
