However, the doctor is now refusing to fill a prescription for flea medication because it "puts His license on the line." He's concerned with his license over flea medication, but was not concerned with it when he was negligent and sent us home with a sick kitten twice. It's one thing to be negligent, it's another to call a grieving pet parent and accuse them of misinformation. On 3/10, we took my kitten who was losing weight, was so thin you could feel all of his bones, was lethargic and had discharge from his eyes. We were told that it was not an upper respiratory infection and that his lungs sounded clear. We were given eyedrops to clear the discharge and told to return in a week if he did not improve. I had previously scheduled an appointment on 3/17 to get Chili and his littermate vaccinated so I took them in. I verbally told the VetTech that Chili had not improved and I was concerned that it was now two weeks and he was low energy, wasn't using the litterbox, and had not gained weight. She came back and told me that the doctor was not concerned and that Chili was just going to be a small cat. A week later I made an appointment at a different vet to get another opinion. Within seconds of seeing Chili they advised to get him to a hospital asap. took him to a Hospital where we were told he had FIP and had to make a quality of life decision. At 5 months old, Chili had to be put down. If you look up FIP, the symptoms are exactly what I brought up. Looking back it's mindblowing that we were sent home twice and my concerns brushed off as 'a small cat'. I spoke to Caroline who sounded very robotic. She informed me that the drops we were given said to go back in a week if he didn't improve to get a different medication for a URI despite the fact the vet told us it was NOT a URI. She also told me that Chili maintained his weight across both appointments. maintaining weight does not mean maintaining a HEALTHY weight. Especially when his littermate was 2 pounds heavier and much larger than him. She told me that I was told that I could get him tested for the coronavirus, which mutates into FIP, but that they did not offer this in house. This is a blatant lie. At NO point was I advised that I could get him tested or that it might be something else. I asked to speak to someone else and I was told that her supervisor, Marie would call me back that day. The next day Marie had not called me back but I did receive an email confirming Chili's next appointment. I called in immediately to cancel this and mentioned that I was waiting on a call. She called me back within the hour and sounded very bothered and informed me that she had 10 minutes to spare. We went over the details and she started sticking to the fact that Chili maintained his weight despite the fact that I brought up other concerns as well. Once her 10 minutes were up she told me she'd look into it further and would have to call me back. She called me and let me know that we provided misinformation. She also referenced an appointment for my other cat from two months ago likely in an attempt to blame the fact she had a URI on why Chili got sick. She stated that in the 10 minutes the vet saw Chili he was not concerned because he was squirming to get away and was given a healthy body score. Trying to get away from a stranger who is poking and prodding you does not trump 2 weeks of being lethargic. Marie also told me that I was informed it was URI which contradicts what Caroline told me. I told her that all I wanted was some accountability for the fact I was not informed that I could take Chili to get tested elsewhere for a possible coronavirus diagnosis. She told me that I was informed --- I was informed that Chili would be a small cat. This practice will not take accountability for anything and instead of doing so will turn it around and blame you for not providing all of the necessary information or for misspeaking.

I listed on my application that I take Suboxone and have for years. No issue. On Friday afternoon a guy named Reggie shows up and tells me to leave immediately. (Let me add that on Thursday i had to go to the ER and get antibiotics for strep throat). The reason I had to leave is that I take Suboxone. He says it will make me drop dirty for benzodiazepines and amphetamines, both of which is totally false and literally scientifically impossible. Reggie has a volunteer follow me around as I pack up my stuff, saying i need to leave right now over and over as if I did something wrong, when I absolutely haven't. While I was there i seen that in the mornings after the over night guests leave, the volunteers are tasked with staging the dorms to look a certain way --just in case-- if any donors might want to walk through. So, every morning 120 bunks are made up nicely with nice sheets and blankets etc just so that at 2pm another volunteer can go around and rip all the stuff back off the beds. I asked why they did this? And was told it was to stage the property to look a certain way, to look "nice" if anyone were to want to walk through before or after donating money. They don't help volunteers not program participants get jobs. But rather promote the homeless to pay $7 per night to stay from 4pm-6am everyday. Even if you work you can't enter after the usual 4-5pm check in time. So they really aren't trying to better anyone's life. I would bet plenty of money is collected to allow for their "programs" and "volunteers". But it's all misdirection and deception. Staging daily. Kicking people out for no reason. Not really trying to help people with employment or flexibility. And it's all done in the name of God. Pretty sure God brought me to Lakeland just so I could witness this atrocious behavior and people. The donation/thrift section refuses to take a desk…read morebecause they "don't take desks", a table because it has a scratch mark, a large dresser because it had testing paint (I was planning on repainting it but never got around to it), and the 2 end tables that went with the dresser because the legs are "loose". These pieces of furniture survived being moved twice and been around for decades. Of course it's not going to be brand new looking. And all that is needed is some TLC. The only thing they took was a massive China cabinet. For a church, this is very not-church-like. Especially the two gentlemen had a vibe of being pretentious. They did take the smaller box/bag items though which is why it's a 2 star instead of 1. They also lack communication. We were told they would go across the street to get their stuff. My mother called the day before to be sure the day before pick up, they never called back. They called the day of and said they'd call us when they were 20 minutes out and would not because they were booked (which is fair, but they should have said so earlier). They actually called when they were 10 minutes out so we were scrambling to get their stuff to our house. I think they refused to take it because they, the drivers, didn't want to put in any effort and actually work. We won't be donating to them again. Instead we have another that would take just about anything, give it the TLC it needs and sell it to someone who needs it.

The benefits of having that kind of support system are incalculable. But service dogs are hard to come by and often harder to raise funds for. I was genuinely surprised at how affordable ASA prices their pups (relative to every other SD organization I've ever seen in the U.S.). Amanda will work with you before during and after you get your new teammate. I highly encourage you to ask any and every question as you go through this journey. Amanda will 100% be there to address any concerns or inquiries. On a personal note, having been through this process twice now, I can officially say that Amanda is one of the kindest individuals in existence and her passion for this work and these dogs is palpable. One woman who worked there--short, wore glasses--was especially kind, though I didn't catch her name. The store is laid out nicely, and they had a lot of furniture available. If you're furniture shopping, this might actually be a good stop; the pieces looked decent and reasonably priced. They also appeared to use a color-tag discount system, though I'm not sure if it changes daily. About half the store was clothing, and the other half was bric-a-brac and furniture. I personally didn't find much this visit, but it could've just been an off day. I'd consider checking back in a couple of weeks to see if inventory changes. I did leave with one fun find: a vintage floating pool drink holder shaped like a rainbow, with space for ice and drinks--super cute and only $5. On the flip side, some prices felt off, like used wrapping paper priced at $3 when you can get a new roll at Dollar Tree for $1. Overall, it's worth checking out, especially for furniture, but don't go in expecting major thrifting treasures. Pretty cool that they are open on a Sunday, though. I will give them that.
