What I do like about them is they have several branches, and you can visit any of them, but what I don't like is you never see the same vet twice. I would imagine, like a doctor, if they get to know the patient they have a better understanding of their health? Maybe that's just me. Anyway, I usually go to the Cavehill Road branch and we always get an appointment very quickly. The girl on reception knows all the pets and takes a real interest in them, which is always nice. It's a tiny wee place though, so if you're afraid of any other animals, you could be surrounded by them at close quarters! They have operated on our dog twice and have always taken good care of her. The emergency vet is great too, they ring you straight back and will talk you through any issues on the phone. I would recommend Clare Vet group to look after any pet.

I bring my dog here and although he is a big wimp they really put him at ease - then stick a big needle in him!!! They have special deals for people who are unemployed so they can get animals neutered for free.

Whilst shopping around for a vet to get him registered to we came across Vets4Pets. What made us opt for them was their 'puppy pack' offer. This includes 2 vaccinations, worm treatments, flea treatments, micro chipping and a free bag of puppy food. All this for only £55. This is a bargain when you consider we were quoted £30 for one injection by another vet. The vet itself is located inside Pets at Home so you'll probably find yourself spending a fortune on animal accessories if you go with this vet. The staff are amazing - really friendly and caring. I am a complete puppy novice so I had a list of questions for them but they answered every single one. Another bonus is that this vet is open until 7pm on week nights so you won't have to take time off work if you're visiting.

A few months after this I took him to get his monthly flea and worm treatment which cost £34 - at that time I didn't think anything off it. I thought that was maybe standard price. I went recently and it only cost £17 for three treatments. The vet had clearly seem me coming and calculated the price in her head. How does it cost £34 for one treatment and £17 for three treatments. Apart from this I don't really have any other complaints with them.

Apart from the tender care and treatment PDSA staff treat the animals with, the best thing about it has to be that they treat pets from low-income families for free. In North Belfast, low income families are common and extorionate vet fees even more so, so this is a much needed service.

Recently my dogs health declined and he was back and forth numerous times from the clinic including a stay. Myself being on low income meant I couldn't afford what the set treatments price would be ( total would be in the thousands). The team answered every question and query I had and practised the covid outlines with such care. Every pet i have seen in and out of the clinic including my dog was handled with love and professionalism. My dog passed away on Sunday night at home and I telephoned the practise and due to the nature of covid they were able to help me step by step in arranging his body to be kept overnight in another vets close to my home before his cremation this week. They even went out of their way and telephoned me yesterday morning as a courtesy call to see how me and my family were managing and if there was anything else they could do on behalf of the practise for my family in arrangements. 5 stars is simply not enough to cover the love the practise has for their work ethic and professionalism and more importantly their furry and human clients. Best Wishes Bruce J the pugs family.

Fees were quite steep on my income but that's very likely vet clinics in general rather than Braemar in particular. Sadly I had to have my lovely dog put down, and this was done at the clinic, in a sympathetic and straightforward way. The only quibble I would have is that I was charged for the consultation about it the day before, when I went in to talk to one of the vets on the advice of the Dogs' Trust - I spoke to a vet and she recommended putting the dog down. (He was a rescue dog and had shown for about 80% of the time I'd had him serious aggression and biting that all experts including paid trainers that I used and consulted with thought would not go away; the general consensus was that as he had been seriously abused, even with intensive work he would not get better. I was also terrified about the three and four year olds in my street who would run up and hug him. The trainer I paid to work with him for two weeks assessed him as irrecoverable, mostly because of the neglect/abuse and also (possibly) for neurological reasons. My dog just got so aggressive in the last couple of months - the vet said probably because he knew he was safe in his new home so no longer had to be on his best behaviour. It was immensely sad and I am still furious about his original family who treated him so badly. Sharing all this in case it helps rescue dog owners; really hope no-one else has to go through this!) Anyway, I was charged £20 by Braemar for the consultation - fair enough that I used the vet's time, and again this is probably standard for the industry, but the vet had no appointments at the time as it was late in the afternoon (the reception staff told me this when I rang that morning), and I was in floods of tears by this point too. I think it would have been a nice gesture to waive the fee in those circumstances - once I explained my dog's history, the vet was adamant that he should be put down and this was fine as her professional opinion, But I was talking to her for less than five minutes, she had no other appointments at the time, and I was a regular customer. I do think £20 was a bit exploitative, as was the staff insisting on it, especially as I was very upset, needed tissues etc. (This is (honestly not about the money, more that I was so upset and it just felt a bit grabbing.) Still a very professional, clean and friendly clinic though, and their website is excellent, with loads of info on all types of pets. Just think a bit of compassion might have been more user-friendly instead of asking someone in clear hysterics for an hour's fee for three minutes' talk . This is more of a feedback thing than a criticism - maybe they could put a different system in place. Thanks overall though for being massively tactful and professional when 'the deed' was done the next day :(

Prepare yourselves for a sad story; a true tear-jerker. I'll give you a chance to get the tissues…read moreout, cos you'll be needing them. The story which led us to Gortlands involves a dearly beloved cat, whose name was Toffee. At only 4 years old, Toffee developed a wee lump on her shoulder, but we were informed that it wasn't anything to worry about, just a foreign body or something, she'd be fine. This unnamed vet coincidently disappeared for a 3 week holiday over the Easter period, and we consequently heard nothing. Concern grew for our puss, and we decided that we had best take her to another vets. It was all very traumatic, and she ran away which really added to the stress of the occasion. A week later, Toffee was taken to Gortlands, where we were more reliably informed that she actually most likely had cancer. This meant having an operation to remove the tumour, but we knew this was a great risk, as she had lost a lot of blood already and was so small that we didn't think she could cope. The vet really was so helpful and kind, and did everything he could, but sadly Toffee passed away a few hours after coming through the operation. I honestly can't recommend these lovely people enough. They took care of everything for us, including her cremation, and were really so incredibly thoughtful. They truly cared. Since then, we have acquired a second cat from an animal sanctuary, and would happily take her to Gortlands if ever the requirement arose.
