Branch of the garden lodge practice (old holywood rd). Have great experiences with this practice - very professional, friendly and less hurried than some practices we have been too. Our cat gives them the paws up! read more

Vets4Pets Belfast

Whilst shopping around for a vet to get him registered to we came across Vets4Pets. What made us opt for them was their 'puppy pack' offer. This includes 2 vaccinations, worm treatments, flea treatments, micro chipping and a free bag of puppy food. All this for only £55. This is a bargain when you consider we were quoted £30 for one injection by another vet. The vet itself is located inside Pets at Home so you'll probably find yourself spending a fortune on animal accessories if you go with this vet. The staff are amazing - really friendly and caring. I am a complete puppy novice so I had a list of questions for them but they answered every single one. Another bonus is that this vet is open until 7pm on week nights so you won't have to take time off work if you're visiting.

A few months after this I took him to get his monthly flea and worm treatment which cost £34 - at that time I didn't think anything off it. I thought that was maybe standard price. I went recently and it only cost £17 for three treatments. The vet had clearly seem me coming and calculated the price in her head. How does it cost £34 for one treatment and £17 for three treatments. Apart from this I don't really have any other complaints with them.

I used Braemar for some months earlier this year with my adopted Springer spaniel, and found them…read moreto be always very professional, courteous and helpful. Fees were quite steep on my income but that's very likely vet clinics in general rather than Braemar in particular. Sadly I had to have my lovely dog put down, and this was done at the clinic, in a sympathetic and straightforward way. The only quibble I would have is that I was charged for the consultation about it the day before, when I went in to talk to one of the vets on the advice of the Dogs' Trust - I spoke to a vet and she recommended putting the dog down. (He was a rescue dog and had shown for about 80% of the time I'd had him serious aggression and biting that all experts including paid trainers that I used and consulted with thought would not go away; the general consensus was that as he had been seriously abused, even with intensive work he would not get better. I was also terrified about the three and four year olds in my street who would run up and hug him. The trainer I paid to work with him for two weeks assessed him as irrecoverable, mostly because of the neglect/abuse and also (possibly) for neurological reasons. My dog just got so aggressive in the last couple of months - the vet said probably because he knew he was safe in his new home so no longer had to be on his best behaviour. It was immensely sad and I am still furious about his original family who treated him so badly. Sharing all this in case it helps rescue dog owners; really hope no-one else has to go through this!) Anyway, I was charged £20 by Braemar for the consultation - fair enough that I used the vet's time, and again this is probably standard for the industry, but the vet had no appointments at the time as it was late in the afternoon (the reception staff told me this when I rang that morning), and I was in floods of tears by this point too. I think it would have been a nice gesture to waive the fee in those circumstances - once I explained my dog's history, the vet was adamant that he should be put down and this was fine as her professional opinion, But I was talking to her for less than five minutes, she had no other appointments at the time, and I was a regular customer. I do think £20 was a bit exploitative, as was the staff insisting on it, especially as I was very upset, needed tissues etc. (This is (honestly not about the money, more that I was so upset and it just felt a bit grabbing.) Still a very professional, clean and friendly clinic though, and their website is excellent, with loads of info on all types of pets. Just think a bit of compassion might have been more user-friendly instead of asking someone in clear hysterics for an hour's fee for three minutes' talk . This is more of a feedback thing than a criticism - maybe they could put a different system in place. Thanks overall though for being massively tactful and professional when 'the deed' was done the next day :(
Pets At Home

Pets at Home have absolutely everything your feathered and furry friends could possibly need…read more There's food, toys, beds, blankets, leads, fleeing and worming medication and a vet counter in store. This is a proper, massive pet supermarket and it's delightful to see dogs walking their owners around the store - if only more businesses could be as animal friendly! Plus with their loyalty card scheme they post discount coupons out, addressed to your pet by name, which is cute. Staff are also very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. However it drops a couple of stars for the following reasons: ~ A lot of items you buy from Pets at Home you'll find at the same price or cheaper in your local supermarket. So shop around. ~ I believe it unethical to support the breeding, buying and selling of animals as pets especially when sanctuaries and pounds are filled to overflowing with unwanted pets. Stores such as Pets at Home, which sell animals, just exasperate this problem.

'You need something small and furry to cuddle,' he opined as he parked, really quite badly, in the massive car park. 'Apart from me, of course.' Well. I'd never thought of getting a rabbit, but when I saw Bailey, lop-eared and twitchy-nosed, in one of the glass enclosures, I became a bit childlike. I bounced on the balls of my feet a bit, tugged at the other half's sleeve and batted my eyelashes in an alluring manner. (Hang on, that last one's just creepy.) The other half went to find a staff member, while I lurked jealously by the bunny's enclosure, shooting filthy looks at anyone who came near. Especially kids. But he was back within a minute with a very impressively knowledgeable sales assistant, who told me everything I needed to know about rabbits and what to get them. (I wasn't listening by this stage because she'd taken the rabbit out for me and I was cuddling her and cooing into her fur [the rabbit, that is, not the sales assistant, because that would also have been creepy]. But a general sense of really-knowing-her-stuff came through the haze of love.) The shop in general is very well equipped with everything you could need for all types of pet, and the prices are really reasonable, with a budget range of essentials like feeding bowls or doggy poop scoopers starting at a quid. So we duly got all the equipment we needed for the new member of the household, which included a special starter deal for the cage, food, feeding bowl, bottles and toys. Then we very gently took that wascally wabbit home. She's well settled in now, leaves little poo balls everywhere and has been the cause of me electrocuting myself three times with a lead she's chewed through. But I loves her. Cheers, Pets At Home.
