Prepare yourselves for a sad story; a true tear-jerker. I'll give you a chance to get the tissues out, cos you'll be needing them. The story which led us to Gortlands involves a dearly beloved cat, whose name was Toffee. At only 4 years old, Toffee developed a wee lump on her shoulder, but we were informed that it wasn't anything to worry about, just a foreign body or something, she'd be fine. This unnamed vet coincidently disappeared for a 3 week holiday over the Easter period, and we consequently heard nothing. Concern grew for our puss, and we decided that we had best take her to another vets. It was all very traumatic, and she ran away which really added to the stress of the occasion. A week later, Toffee was taken to Gortlands, where we were more reliably informed that she actually most likely had cancer. This meant having an operation to remove the tumour, but we knew this was a great risk, as she had lost a lot of blood already and was so small that we didn't think she could cope. The vet really was so helpful and kind, and did everything he could, but sadly Toffee passed away a few hours after coming through the operation. I honestly can't recommend these lovely people enough. They took care of everything for us, including her cremation, and were really so incredibly thoughtful. They truly cared. Since then, we have acquired a second cat from an animal sanctuary, and would happily take her to Gortlands if ever the requirement arose. read more

My wee izzy is 11 has a problem with her back passage needed her glands unblocked everytime we go to vet I feed her the best off food went today the vet has really hurt her she cryed whilst the vet unblocked them couldn't wait to get her out no time in & out still shaking not amused at all the she's not eating or drinking & the smell unreal she lying in bits on my bed not amused to many appointments at one time need longer opening hours maybe it's a one off don't know read more

The reason I am giving Gortlands one star is that they don't have an affordable out of hours emergency service. They use an organisation called Vets Now who will not treat your pet in an emergency unless you pay the outrageous consultation fee of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY EIGHT POUNDS!. Even if it takes the vet 5 minutes to tell you that your pet will be ok until you can take him to your regular vet they will STILL charge you £158.00 People like myself who have used Gortlands for many years - paying them thousands of pounds and keeping them in business deserve a better emergency service than this. And what about people who simply can't afford that extortionate price? Vets Now will literally just let your pet die if you cant pay this sum. Lets all let Gortlands know that we are not happy with them using Vets Now. read more

great vets with reasonable price list and friendly service making a soft hearted pet owner who panicks feel more at ease

this vet is great the staff are lovely and you never have to wait long.

Unfortunately Gortlands failed my dog Poppy yesterday when they sent her home severely dehydrated and anaemic and recommended cage rest for 6 weeks for a sore neck despite admitting themselves the pain shouldn't be leaving her in such a bad state. She was pitiful and just hanging. Within minutes of walking into our house she took a turn for the worse and I had to rush her to the emergency vet where she had bloods done and the decision was taken that she was actually battling too many things and should be put to sleep. The neck pain was the least of her worries but was the only thing Gortlands looked into and didn't address why she was in such bad condition. Nothing would change the outcome but I feel my dog suffered needlessly yesterday with being left so badly dehydrated. A blood test would have showed just how bad a state she was in. Best about it is when we rang today to say how upset we were that this has happened it was very much a case of "what do you want me to do about it" and didn't care. read more
