    My sweet puppy.
    T.J. L.

Went in for the first time today with my sick puppy. Dr. Wallace and her staff were very friendly. Unfortunately X-rays showed some kind of mass in my baby's guts, she recommended emergency surgery. During surgery the doctor found that my puppy had a rare congenital intestinal problem that was causing her a lot of pain and would have eventually killed her slow and painfully. I made the very hard decision to have her put down without coming out of anesthesia. Dr. Wallace and her staff were so caring and comforting, she carefully went over what she found, making sure I understood what happened, she spent a lot of time with me. I'll definitely be bringing all my pets to her from now on. Very sweet people.

Found two stray dogs in a field and my phone was dead so I walked them from the Ridgeneck area to the police department and they were recommended to me. I was trying to find if they had been tagged and do a wellness check on them. While at the police department I met who I now know to be officer Sexton, the animal control official in Sanger. She asked if I needed help and I told her no and that I was the dog's owner. I even told her I was trying to go to the Paws and Claws. I walked over the pedestrian bridge and arrived and everyone was super nice. A worker told me that the dogs had been chipped but not registered. She informed me that a check-up would be 55 for each dog and Papa Rascal (bigger dog) would need blood work for a few hundred because he was throwing up. I was not going to get them checked out because that was way overpriced for strays I had found that day and I was certain I could find better. However, a gentleman named Cory paid for it while I was sitting charging my phone. Everything was great until I met the vet. I don't remember her name but she was an older white lady with short hair. She introduces herself and instantly started being disrespectful. She was insinuating that I had stolen them and was lying. She asked, "Are these dogs yours?" And I said yes. I was planning on adopting them that day. And she repeated the question and was like "Are they yours, yes or no?" And I told her that from my point of view animals aren't anyone. You can't own them. She replied with " Did you have them yesterday?" And I said no. As she should have known as I had said that on my paperwork. I then gave her my personal card of officers Harlen and told her to call animal control. I informed the staff that I would be staying until animal control or I got the dogs. Officer Sexton arrived and I officially met her and apologies for our earlier interaction because I could definitely see it being disrespectful. She seemed really genuine in her concern for the animals and was warning me about how they are considered "property" so I could have been charged with theft in that case. She transferred them to All American Dogs in Pilot Point tonight. I will be contacting them tomorrow or in a couple of days to check on the dogs. The staff were really nice and overall it was an informative experience but I would not recommend them because of the veterinarian. I tried to give her a mask that I had found and made mask art out of and she said they would just be throwing it away. So I got it back. And I can't confirm this but my charger suddenly stops working and now is at the Chevron not too far away. Pretty sus.

Paws and Claws Sanger has taken great care of my pets for many years and on occasion they've helped me. I couldn't ask for better service!

But top thumbs up for Jagger and Diana who realized how upset my wife and I were with what had to be done. We had our dog 18 1/2 years and losing her today was dramatic and they both realized our concern. But were professional and compassionate handled all issues.

I do not write negative reviews lightly, but after today I feel other pet owners should be aware of…read morethe direction this clinic has taken. I currently care for over 21 dogs and have used Hooves and Paws extensively for years. In the last six months alone I have spent thousands of dollars here. They have handled nearly every aspect of my dogs' veterinary care -- including litters, C-sections, puppy evaluations, vaccinations, tail docks, dew claw removals, sick visits, and routine exams. In addition to owning many dogs, I am also a breeder and active exhibitor in the conformation and performance dog world, so veterinary care is something I take extremely seriously. I also own a grooming business and have referred many of my grooming clients, friends, and family members to this clinic over the years. Because of that long history and the amount of business I've brought through their doors, what happened today was incredibly disappointing. My dog has been urinating on herself and I suspected a UTI. She was last seen at this clinic about three months ago, so she is an established patient in their system. I called the clinic first thing this morning and asked what I needed to do. The receptionist told me I could collect a urine sample and bring it in for testing. So I did exactly that. I drove there with the urine sample, only to be told when I arrived that they would not test it unless I paid for a full exam as well, despite the fact that the dog was not even with me and I had followed the instructions I was given over the phone. Had I been told an exam was required, I would have simply brought her in so she could receive the treatment she likely needs. Instead, because of the incorrect information I was given, she now has to go another day potentially uncomfortable and possibly in pain while I make other arrangements. This is exactly the kind of experience that has become more and more common since the clinic went corporate. Prices continue to climb and it increasingly feels like clients are being nickel and dimed at every opportunity, even when it contradicts what they were told beforehand. What is most frustrating is that this situation could have been avoided with simple transparency. Had I been told on the phone that an exam would be required, I would have scheduled one or made other arrangements. Instead, I wasted my time making a trip based on incorrect information. After years of bringing significant business to this clinic -- both personally and through referrals -- today was the final straw. I will be moving all of my dogs' care elsewhere, and unfortunately I can no longer recommend Hooves and Paws to my grooming clients, friends, family, or fellow dog owners in the community. When a long-time client who manages a large number of dogs and regularly refers other pet owners feels this way, it should be taken seriously. As someone active in the breeder and dog show community, conversations about veterinary care come up frequently among fellow exhibitors, breeders, and pet professionals. Experiences like this inevitably become part of those discussions, which makes situations like today even more disappointing.
