New to the area for the summer (a dreaded Bennie from NYC and Brooklyn) and I couldn't get him taken care of before I left. Some context - I'm very protective, overly cautious, but not picky about perfection when it comes to fancy grooming. I want the basics done impeccably (toes, ears, eyes, bangs, etc) so he's healthy, clean, cool/warm enough for the season, and can see through his bangs. We had a great experience with Paws and Anchor! Note: They are swamped in the summer and even though my initial appt was for almost 1.5 weeks away, they had a last min cancellation and I got in within 4 days of calling. Call ahead!! But don't take that spot I might want :) Stephanie was so nice and gentle with him - took extra long with him and constantly talked to him (at least while I was in there stalking) knowing he was nervous. They have little cubbies for the dogs waiting even though they encourage dropoff/pickup right around their time (not cages, like little leashed dog dugouts with thick dog bed cushions under the main counter) which was totally fine with my boy and me. He's clean, smells great, is super fluffy, not too short, not too long, and he can see through his thick bangs, PLUS she didn't chop off his adorable dark eyelashes with the rest of his bangs which is a HUGE bonus for us. Also - he didn't run out of there like a bat out of hell and even took a treat from her on the way out which he wouldn't have done if he had a terrible experience with her. Plus, it was totally reasonable pricing for what we got. Under $70ish for the works (not including tip) I know that differs depending on the dog, but for reference, his (hair, not fur) coat is very thick and had gotten long and curly but he didn't have many (if at all) mats, his beard and eyes were a mess from playing in the rain and muck, and even though he's 24lbs he's still considered a "small" dog. I say "squat and husky" :) Go! But again - don't take the appointment slot we want! read more

And unlike the other groomers I've been to, they knew just how to work on a long-haired dog. My collie was very nervous and they put her right at ease and she looked amazing and happy when I picked her up. Be careful taking your dog here- as the groomers do not like to listen to what you say & instead just groom the dogs how they feel. After conversations with 3 people, and having notes on my account- all stating my dogs needed a "light trim" as their previous haircut was way too short - they still managed to ignore this simple request. I have two pomeranians that should normally look cute and fluffy, but now look incredibly awkward. My one pom has actually lost a lot of his tail fur from previous groomers (and it never grows back the same), so I made sure to put it in his notes to NEVER CUT TAIL FUR. Welllllll guess what they did today! Yup, they cut the fur on his tail. Again- a simple request they could not follow. Spoke with the owner/manager Nicole, and the situation that "the customer is always right" is definitely not something she abides by. After a few unapologetic "I'm sorry's", she wound up arguing with me, and telling me that my dogs looked fine - and what a standard pomeranian haircut is (even though I did not ask for a standard cut). The call ended with her saying "it's just hair- it will grow back". Guess what won't grow back.. my $200+ I wasted for their awful haircut and even worse customer service experience. read more

The BEST! Brought my Dad's dog there to get groomed. The dog is 6 pounds and a ball of fire. I was worried she would give them a hard time. I handed the leash off to Stephanie (who was extremely confident and brave) She explained what she was going to do, I when I came back (in less than an hour) and the dog looked great. We took our 6 month old puppy to Paws & Anchor this week. The team did a nice, slow job with my puppy who is afraid of water and blow-drying. She seemed totally relaxed & fine when she got home. I definitely would give 5 stars in terms of responsiveness, cleanliness, & just overall care and facility. In terms of grooming, they didn't really do what I requested but I ended up loving and preferring the puppy cut they gave her and will definitely request it next time. I am terribly disappointed in my puppy's haircut. After showing the groomer two images of other golden doodle haircuts that had a fuller appearance, I thought it was clear that I did not want such a short cut, especially around the face. Paws and Anchor is the only place I'll ever take my puppy to get groomed. My 14 year old poodle Buttons had perfect experiences there and my 7 month old Yorkie Poo comes here now too. I have been a dog owner my entire life.....so I have seen my share of grooming businesses, their grooming expertise, their love of animals and in general their professionalism. Moved to Bradley last year and began using their shop......and found them to be mostly average in all categories. I have a golden and first time in, although they wanted to upsell me on on additional product to reduce shedding, the price quoted was fair. Each visit thereafter their price for the same grooming was higher....after the third increase in as many visits, i questioned what I considered a rediculous amount amount of money for the grooming.....and I was told, that the grooming took them longer then usual. When I picked up the dogs they were soft, smelled wonderful, and got all of the tear stains gone. I live in DC but my in laws live nearby. We wait to go up for visits to get our dog groomed here. We love this place. They don't use cages to pen the dogs and great value for all you get. My dog always gets the First Mate package that includes tooth brushing, filed nails AND a blueberry facial!!! Worth every penny!!! I absolutely loved my dogs haircut and was very pleased with the costumer service when I received a call from their staff the next day to ask how my dog was after her haircut. However I noticed her licking one spot very often. When I checked the area there was a large gash about the size of 1/2 a penny. I am sure that my dog must have yelped when this happened so I am certain they were aware of it. I understand that accidents happen but not letting the owner know is just unprofessional and ignorant. Needless to say because I was not aware this happened the area got infected and she had to be taken to the vet. When discussing this with friends that have gone here they mentioned that their dogs also had nicks on them as well. I really would have liked to go back but in the future please inform your customers if you cut their pets. read more

Nothing else like it! Facility is open to the public for dog washing or you can your dog pampered by the professional groomer while he or she enjoys home-made dog treats. Staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a wide variety of hand-selected items from treats to leashes and harnesses to bed to toys. Washed my own dog in a clean and well stocked facility. I even had choices for type of shampoo. No need to bring my own towels as they were supplied also. Super friendly staff helped my pooch get acclimated in a safe manner. They even checked for rabies vaccination with my vet. We'll be back often. read more

Just had our cat Sunny groomed for the first time and was iffy how it would go. Everything about paws and anchor is great from the store to the staff. Most of all sunny looks great. We took our 12 year old lab, Charlie there for the first time today. Such a fantastic experience! It obvious that these people love animals. The owners spared no expense on designing the store. It's cool and hip! My favorite part was when we returned an hour later to pick up our boy. He was behind the counter with the girls. No cage! He looked so relaxed which is not like him. Normally he shakes because of separation anxiety. I was amazed. Oh, and the grooming was well done and quick. Bummed that we finally found an exceptional groomer, but are now moving out of the area next week. For all of you staying in town, look no further. You will love this place. read more

The establishment is a cozy, new and convenient place to take my dog. He hd just gotten a haircut at Petsmart and they had done a terrible job, so he is growing out his hair. He needed a bath and I didn't feel like giving him one at home. I called and asked for a quote since I didn't want to overspend for something I can do myself. Since he is a pom and his hair is currently medium long they quoted me a maximum of $35 and I wanted to add extra conditioning and brushing so it would be an extra $3. The next day when I go pick him up, they charged me $43 plus tax. I later called and asked why it was more then quoted and they told me it was because it was the extra blow drying time, yet no one bothered to call me to let me know I would be charged extra. For another $10 I could have had them trim him as well since he could have used it to give him some shape. But I don't doubt they would have charged me extra then too. I liked how they brushed and bathed him he looked good, and if you don't mind being overcharged they are ok and more convenient then Petsmart. For me, I will no longer be going there, I hate being overcharged and having price increases, your a pets store. You do your job and don't add on for something your suppose to do. I found this place through Yelp and the good reviews are very misleading. I've gone to Paws and Anchor 4 times and yes I will say, they treated my puppy with care and for the most part they did a good job with the overall grooming.. Otherwise this place is a complete rip off. They definitely do a great job of distracting you from their outrageous prices with a beautiful store, kept clean and smelling good, so clearly they have quality services which explains the increase in price range. But make sure you read between the lines on their website, because in person, they seem to forget to mention that they charge $1.00 per minute for de-matting, all grooming with all packages will not only depend on size but the "condition" that their hair/fur is in, they charge you if you're even 10 minutes late to picking your dog up from the grooming appointment as a part of their "day care fees", and they schmooze you into adding on unnecessary services like blueberry facials (I can't believe I fell for that one). I would have preferred that they would have at least been up front with me, in any of the 4 times I went there (even though it should have been the first), to let me know that they were going to charge me an arm and a leg for these fine print costs. Not only did they ignore these minor details but they went above and beyond to act like they genuinely cared about their customers and the services they provide to their customers, when in reality they're professional scammers doing anything to make an extra buck. I was charged $90+ every time I went to this place - my dog is 5 lbs..on their website they advertise that, even for the highest priced package, that small dogs "less than 10 lbs" are $50 (and up). My puppy is a MalShi (Maltese Shiatsu mix) and for anyone who has a shiatsu or a dog with hair that grows like a weed, you can sympathize with me in understanding that waiting any longer than 3 weeks to get this type of coat groomed will always require extra maintenance. I can assure you that I do what I can to keep my dog clean and brushed before on a daily basis, any matting that he has is a result of his coat due to his breed, how can I be penalized for that? Ultimately, I'm mostly aggravated with the fact that they pretend to be this sophisticated and caring dog grooming company, only to steal at least $60 from you every time you go there. It's my fault.. For being so gullible and amateur to the dog owner life, and I will give them the credit of pulling the wool over my eyes, they definitely did me dirty. But that's why I'm writing this ... Word to the wise, don't waste your time or your money here. You will regret it. read more
