I went to three places (the other 2 were fine jewelry stores) for quotes and JM had the best offer. The process was pretty straight forward. The owner weighs each type of gold separately (10k, 14k, 18k) and then does some furious calculations behind his desk. I can't say for certain what goes into the calculations since I am too short to see over the tall table but he did look up the current price of gold on his computer. In the end I didn't end up selling the gold. One of the designers at the other store helped me design some modifications to make repurposed jewelry instead of selling it for scrap. But that's not all. The Pawn shop is definitely the better of the two elements in the same store. I was pleasantly surprised at the funky attitude the store housed. The store also houses a collection of vintage art and furniture. It's like the best parts of an estate sale were put together in a small shop. There was a variety of fine furniture and "modern" vintage art and industrial lamps/lighting fixtures. Definitely worth a look.

Join in with others in what some are saying is the modern-day "Gold Rush". Prompted by the high price of gold, many people like you are digging broken and out-of-date gold jewelry and other shiny gold treasures out of their drawers and selling it. In this tough economy some are selling their gold to help cover their car or house payments because they are out of work or their hours have been cut. Others are doing it because they know it's a good time to part with old gold and get some extra cash for a vacation. The reasons are varied but they are cashing in.

I came here only once, a very long time ago, when my car had been stolen and all my music equipment was ripped off out of the back of it. So I came here looking for my keyboards and PA and amps and all that. I was treated decently, it wasn't anything too bad nor too great. The guy was nice but basically told me I had no chance of finding anything, and mentioned some other Pawn Shops I might try. I tried maybe 10 others, most of which I can't remember, but I do remember this one for being close to downtown, being overpriced, and being willing to help me locate other possibilities.

Don't go here, the tall White woman with black hair is obviously not qualified to work there…read more First of all, I had a brand new laptop thats never been used or opened for sale worth about $920 in retail. I tried to offer it for $700 and then she scanned it to search up the retail price. Finally, she said she'll pass and I asked why. And she said "Because you're trying to sell it for about twice the amount its worth" I was like ....um, "how, I offered $700 and its worth about 900 and some change." I showed it to her and this woman went and searched up the product. She went a showed me a random EBAY listing the product for $400. Now she said "It doesn't matter how much you got it for retail, what matters is how much people are willing to pay for it" Now thats true. However, on Ebay, sellers can set THEIR OWN PRICES. So if someone is TRYING to sell my same product for $400, that doesn't determine the value of my own. And worst yet, the Ebay seller didn't even SELL the item yet, or it probably could have been refurbished! So how are you going to compare an ebay listing to a retail price when the ebay seller hasn't made any sales yet and you weren't sure if the item was brand new or refurbished? By this logic or method these people go by to determine what they'll pay you, I highly HIGHLY advise anybody against wasting their gas money or cab money to sell anything to these "professionals". Terrible. Also the woman who answers phones, hangs up on customers!!!
