The groomer (Heather) came out to meet me before my appointment and go over everything. I talked over what I usually do with the dogs and she walked me through what she thought they might need as well. It was a great experience to talk about them together because it really felt like collaboration. What really set me at ease was this: She told me if I went home, inspected them, and find something not to my linking to call her and she would get it worked out. I found this incredibly reassuring, especially during a first groom where she is still learning my preferences. She seemed to really understand that we both just want best for the dogs. When I went to pick them up, they look so adorable and again the groomer (Heather) came out to talk to me about everything they had went through how their behaviors were. As a dog mom I appreciate it so much, when I know what my dogs are doing and what they've been through. She went through everything with me- down to how she was holding their heads during the groom. It felt as though my dogs comfort was her priority, and Im truly appreciative of that. I think they worked very hard on having a great relationship between the dogs and the groomers, as well as the human parents and the groomers too. I felt like I understood everything that was going on. Full transparency seems like a model here and I'm very thankful for that. I will definitely be bringing mine back a I suggest you take a leap of faith and try them out too! Also wanted to mention: The facilities were super clean. They have lots of windows so you can look in on the daycare and the rest of the facility. Every dog I saw walking out looked very happy and content. Not stressed at all, which is what we all want for our pups. In the photos Vaders (black dog) face looks a bit choppy because she is a gremlin and loves to smash her face into things creating mats that Heather carefully removed. She had a discussion with me prior to cutting and I gave her permission. (Full disclosure, I copied this over from my google review so I didn't need to type it out twice, but I fully stand by it)

Booked, reserved, paid deposit…read more 2 minutes prior to drop off as I am in the parking lot she calls me to tell me they don't accept senior dogs. I said ok I explained that on my first call 2 weeks ago. . . When I asked about getting the deposit back she said I can have a manager call you because I'm not sure. That is where our convo went south. Me : " well surely you'll refund a client if you are canceling on them moments before their drop off, I can come inside and speak to someone" Her : " You don't need to do anything I'll have a manager call you like I said we will see" Me : " No worries I can just come inside I am actually here" Her : " we don't have anyone available to speak to you, we are busy" "Hangs up" I did not go inside, I called back, got a refund asked why this happened and was told "it's a busy week we can't focus on old dogs" That's a concern, so old dogs or not I wouldn't take your babies here. Also cannot believe how rude everyone was.

I wanted to share an update after my earlier review regarding an incident my dog Ziggy experienced…read morehere during a grooming visit. When I recently had to travel last-minute, I boarded Ziggy at Downtown Dog. Upon pickup, the owner, Gwen, asked to speak with me directly. She was very open and sincere about what had happened previously -- apologizing, explaining the corrective actions taken with staff, and sharing broader improvements coming to DTD. She even covered Ziggy's recent stay, which I greatly appreciated. For me, it's less about the incident itself (I understand accidents can happen) and more about transparency and how quickly a facility acts in the best interest of the dog. Gwen understood that completely and has clearly taken it to heart. I'd encourage anyone who's had a tough experience here to reach out directly -- Gwen and her team do care, and they also give back by supporting local rescue agencies. Downtown Dog really does have a lot of great people behind it, and I'm glad I gave them another shot.

My dog suffered emergency bloat and passed Christmas morning in 2024. DD staff was caring for him…read moreat the time of his emergency and they neglected to contact me until several hours after his first symptom. He was hospitalized a total of 3 times with 2 major surgeries due to the severity of his case. My family now has $30,000 in medical debt. When I tried to settle some responsibility with the owner, they admitted fault and that another dog died from the same condition a few years prior. In later conversations their CPS waved their waiver in my face and threatened she could tell me to F off. Then they stopped all communications except to their insurance adjuster, who tried to dismiss their refusal to cooperate as my fault because I was upset my dog died. They took NO responsibility after I trusted them with Yohji for most of his life (7 years). They are also suppressing negative reviews on Google. I have posted further details in the Dallas subreddit, please share my story and I would not trust the owners to care for your family members and take responsibility for any repercussions that may ensue. This is the worst loss I have ever experienced and I miss him everyday. God forbid an emergency happens at DD, because ownership will leave you in the dust.

The adoption process was very easy and more thorough than my previous experiences with animal shelters (SA animal control did not care about anything at all). They seemed a little confused on whether he had a respiratory infection (he didn't), but you are given all medical /behavioral notes they have at checkout so you 100% know what's going on when you leave. They were nice enough to give us free shampoo, conditioner, and food. It was a very good experience and we feel blessed to add another crazy guy to our household!
