- OMG it's like haven for cat lovers! -…read more It's like 1 min walk from Island Hoppin' Brewery, and that's the reason why I went there. I don't drink much, so I'd rather go to a shelter to see animals XD! The front lady was nice and she didn't push us to adopt anything. There was an obese cat that's been separated from the other cats because he's on a special diet. He was friendly. I then went in two other rooms, each with about 7 cats. The cats there were really friendly, but some are shy. I spent like 20 minutes there patting the cats.. lol. The cats there have a nice outside patio area where they can walk around as well. The adoption fee is also lower than most places if I remember correctly. My friend donated some $$ to thank them for taking good care of the cats. I probably won't come back to this island again since there's not much to do, but if I go there again I'd stop by this place and pat the cats once more~

The mantra is always the same, "We didn't do anything wrong, you (the owner) are at fault. That gets old when the animal you love is suffering. There is a "traveling vet" available on the Island, ask around and you will find her phone number. She is not cheap but you will get good care for your animal and it will be worth it.

We booked a one-hour horseback ride, but we…read moreended up getting an hour and half because they told us there was a group of wedding guests (this place does weddings) that had taken over the intended route with a post-wedding picnic, and they wanted us to have a more secluded experience. They gave us two wranglers for just the two of us, and both were knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. It's worth noting that the prices here are better than the other horseback riding outfit I'm aware of on the island that runs rides in Moran State Park. They don't actually seem to get a lot of business, even on mid-summer weekends -- which means that if you go with them you may well get a private tour like we did (hope they stay in business though!).

Most importantly the care and consideration for the animals is obvious - from the kind of shoes they wear to how they introduce you to the animal. There is now a lovely handicap accessible porta potty complete with pave stone pathway immediately to the right of the entry for the large dog area. 2. Yes, a few folks do sit in their vehicles while their dog is in the park. At least a couple of these people have health issues and cannot be with their dogs the entire time. We are a small community. We look out for each other. Please be understanding that sometimes there is more to the story than what you see. 3. I see more tourists not pick up after their dogs than residents. And let's face it, sometimes it's easy to be distracted speaking with friends, playing with other dogs, or engaging with visitors. If you find yourself at the park during a lull, there are several scoopers available. Grab a scooper, take a walk, and log some karma points. The smaller scooper is easier to dump into the bagged trashcans than the larger one (which requires a bit more talent). Or if you see a nearby singular poop that got missed, pick it up with a poop bag. We have a fantastic resource here. Cherish it. Take care of it, even if you are just visiting, And remember, with a little TLC m maybe we can hold onto this little doggie paradise for a long time.
