Nadja is a dog whisperer! We have a very sassy shih tzu (Buddy) who would not even let us brush him, and who would go into a full attach as if he was fighting for his life to protect himself from any attempts of him being brushed or trimmed. Thus, I was initially nervous that we would not find a groomer who would be able to handle Buddy and his sassy personality. Nadja is AMAZING! We have a 10 year old rescue pup who's blind (no eye balls) who can be quite finicky. I've always been nervous taking him to groomers bc I'm afraid he'll snap (he snaps at me whenever I try to bath or brush him at home). But the experience at Pet Spa was perfect. **Long Review I picked this place because of the reviews. I bring in my Maltipoo puppy Louis and she asks me how I want him trimmed. I tell Nadja not too short but something good for the summer. She puts her fingers through his hair and finds a little knot (no big deal I think. I brush him regularly but he's so little his hair drags on the ground when he's in grass or playing). She says "oh this is bad, this is matted and I can't do anything but shave it off." I look at her shocked and confused and she grabs a comb, put it at the top of the knot, and yanks it so that Louis yelps (mind you he's a little dog so it doesn't take much, but I found it unnecessary). The thing is, I've gotten little knots out of his fur before, all this would take is some conditioner and a little bit of time to gently comb out the knot (from the bottom, not the top like she did). I should have just left. I desperately wish I did. Especially because then she made me feel like a terrible owner. She told me she wouldn't feel comfortable not shaving it because leaving Louis with tangles would be "animal abuse." I immediately felt guilty as if I was neglecting my new dog since she threw abuse in the air. She continues that she should shave him and that at least it's warm outside so "it's not like he'll freeze to death." Not really my favorite terminology after throwing out abuse. (Why didn't I leave, why didn't I leave?) But I'm a first time dog owner and that's the first time I've gone to a groomer, so I told her she could do what she thought was necessary. She comments that I should know that she knows what she's doing because of her reviews. (Great) So then I ask how long it'll take, and she says about two hours and that she'll text me when he's done. I leave almost in tears at the subtle accusation that I'm abusing/neglecting my puppy and feel terrible. I get back to the place two hours later and sit in the lobby waiting for a text (she's in the back of an animal hospital). She texts me half an hour later telling me that they close at 2, and I immediately text back asking if he's done and that I thought she was going to text me. I get up and head to the back and she tells me she thought she told me it'd be about two hours, to which I agreed she told me but restated that she also told me she'd text me when Louis was done. She also thanks me for not sending a "nasty text" cause that's what most people would've done (I didn't know how to take that comment, an odd thing to say). I get my dog and he looks demolished. I stare at him shocked and she starts telling me how the matted fur was way worse than she thought it was and that it was basically all dreads. I wish I called her out because I know that's not true (see photos), especially because a third of his belly is bald. However, I was on the brink of tears at my beautiful puppy that looked absolutely terrible. I paid and left. I won't go back. She made me feel terrible about myself as a dog owner (I imagine that wasn't on purpose, but this is the first dog I've owned myself and it hurt). I have no idea if his knots were uncombable or not because she didn't try at all (whyyyyyy did I not just leave and try myself?! I am so mad at myself). And if all that wasn't enough his face trimming isn't even. I don't have any malice towards Nadja, but I did not have a good experience. Just hoping Louis' hair will grown back fast. We were referred to a Paw Spa in Broomfield and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of our bernedoodle Zen's first hair cut. Nadja was very attentive when hearing what we wanted with Zen and followed through with all of our requests. Not only did Zen come back to us looking much better (& cleaner) he gave Nadja a thank you nudge with his paw and kiss before we left. I have a small shih tzu, and we have been bringing him to Nadja for grooming for several years. She is a self-contained machine! Nadja is dependable, consistent, and great to work with in general! Her advanced skills and speed are outstanding, and it is obvious that she really loves dogs and knows how to care for them. She is particularly fast and perceptive compared to other groomers. One time, she actually found a burrowed botfly (that I didn't notice) and removed it from under my dog's skin! My BFF is and always has been my Blue Healer named Dayna. I had been taking her to get groomed at a national chain. I'm sure you can figure out which one. Every time we got within a mile of the place Dayna cried and dug her heels into the ground and refused to go. It broke my heart. The final straw was when I arrived to pick her up once and she had a bloody mouth and a bloody paw. She tried to eat her way out of the cage! When I asked what happened, they said she was crazy. She THE smartest dog I have ever owned and she is not crazy by any means. I was crushed and promised her I would find her a better groomer. I tried several to no avail. Dayna loathed all of them. Then one day my Vet suggested I try the new groomer they brought on board named Nadja, I figured what do I have to lose huh? I was getting no where with the myriad of groomers I tried in the past and I trusted my Vet. Nadja assured me Dayna would be fine. I walked away and left her and thought, "Gee, I sure hope this is the one." When I came back to get her she was ecstatic. We've been back several times even though it is a thirty minute drive one way. My dog loves Nadja and I trust her and the job she does with her is stellar. Now me and Dayna are very happy. It's hard to find someone who knows how to groom a labradoodle. I've tried several groomers in the Boulder area who never did a very good job and always ended up nicking her skin. I resorted to doing it myself with scissors.
