Where to start about this amazing yet quaint culinary delight on Kennedy Blvd. In South Tampa? Our dear friends decided we needed an impromptu dinner and that we should visit Paul's as they had a few weeks prior, so naturally when your chosen family suggests-" let's do dinner", you do! Paul's is a truly marvelous establishment and its size ( there are probably 10-12 tables) is very NY. Small and intimate but what comes forth from the kitchen is pure magic. The cuisine is an Asian fusion- that word "fusion" is used a lot these days sometimes a bit much, but Paul's can use whatever words they choose because the food is delicious. We started with the chicken satay, and crispy spring rolls. The satay was delightful and the chicken was tender and flavorful. The spring rolls are def made in house- no frozen spring rolls here, and very tasty. I ordered the Pad Thai- with chicken and shrimp at a medium spice level. All I can say is- WOW, just WOW! By far the best Pad Thai I have had in Tampa in 11 years. The subtle flavors coupled with the mild - yet striking spice was a carnival of excitement in my mouth. The chicken was tender was was the shrimp- the noodles cooked to perfection and the dish was NOT wet- it was perfectly seasoned and was accompanied by a Thai chili vinegar on the side and pepper flakes to add a bit more spice- if I had fancied that. Well, I did. Not because it wasn't seasoned as I had asked, but because I decided to add a little more kick! Our server was just lovely- attentive, helpful and always there when we needed her- always checking to be sure we were ok. The time from kitchen to table is perfect- yet there is no rush, the restaurant just wants to be sure you are enjoying yourself! We topped the evening off with a slice of coconut cream pie- fabulous!! Our experience with Paul's won't be our last. I'm honestly surprised this place is rated so highly. While the food was edible, it didn't really wow us. The tom yum soup had a nice spicy kick, but the shrimp had a slight freezer-burn taste. I ordered the sweet potato salmon dish and was disappointed that the salmon was overcooked. The drunken noodles were a bit on the salty side, though not terrible. Overall, it's an "okay" spot, but it wouldn't be my first choice for Thai food. Went to Paul's Fusion Kitchen again. It's just the best. I tried the Thai House Salad for the first time, and the dressing was unique and flavorful. My main course was Paul's Crab Cake, and the desert I had was coconut cream pie. The service is outstanding and the food remains one of Tampa's best kept secrets. read more

Paul's is a diamond in the rough. I am so lucky to have stumbled upon this place a couple of years ago . It lies in a very unassuming strip center. It has just a handful of tables so I would suggest making a reservation. Very tasteful decor. Service was excellent. Staff is grateful and very unassuming. This was a random "where should be go to dinner and what's around where we are" yelp find. We weren't sure what to expect but was definitely blown away. Every time I see fusion on a restaurant, it's either gonna be really good or very disappointing and overpriced. Paul's was really good and the price was pretty fair for the portion especially with their location and amazing service to boot. Paul's is a little hidden oasis on Kennedy. You would never think that such a lovely little restaurant was nestled in a rundown strip mall surrounded by nail bars and shops. The exterior is giving Chinese takeaway. But when you walk inside, it's calm, peaceful and serene. The owner is friendly and welcoming. She seemed genuinely happy to see us. There weren't many guests, but they seem to do a fair takeaway trade. The menu is small and encompasses a variety is cuisines, from Pad Thai and American Chili. The food was very nice. I would not say amazing, but worth the price and pleasant. I would go back if I was going out to dinner with a friend and they wanted to try them. But I'll probably not go back on my own. Came back because I was really craving pad thai and wanted to give this place another shot because of all of the raving reviews. First off, the service and ambiance are impeccable. The restaurant is clean and modern, and the waitress is attentive and very welcoming- she continually made sure we had full glasses of water even serving and seating all of the tables! 10/10 service. I was disappointed that I did not get bread this time, maybe they stopped doing it, but I remember how good it was last time so naturally sad as I was anticipating it. I got tofu pad Thai and my bf got crab fried rice. Both items were very expensive for Thai food. My typical pad thai is like $15, so now my expectations are higher. The pad thai was just ok. It had a good portion of tofu but it wasn't special. I did like having the extra peppers and peanuts on the side. The crab fried rice was also decent but nothing special- good portion of crab but still overpriced. My experience at Paul's Fusion Kitchen was exceptional. As soon as I walked in I was greeted ever son nicely and sat immediately. I loved the intimate feeling of the restaurant. My food came out pretty fast and I was brought a nice and hot bread roll to eat as I waited for my food. I ended up getting the shrimp pad Thai which was great, just too many bean sprouts in it. I know next time to ask for little to none. I drank a pelligreno with my meal which was crisp and refreshing. Overall nice restaurant and great service. read more

We started with the oysters and spring rolls. The oysters were a hit. For entrees we tried the pad thai, drunken noodles and fried rice. The pad thai and drunken noodles were most flavorful. The Thai iced coffee was sweet but good and the espresso was delicious. This restaurant is located in a the same strip mall as sucre table and you would miss it if you weren't searching! High snaps for Paul's. Ever since my mom visited her BFF from HS that lives in the Tampa region and they came here all they did was rave about this place. My mom kept saying "the next time you come down to Tampa you have to try Paul's." Enter Paul's on a Friday night. Snagged a reservation for 4 on OpenTable and man. It was so incredibly worth the hype. So much so I immediately texted hubby after dinner because next time we visit my sister-in-law and brother-in-law in town we need to come here!!! We had the following: - 2 orders of Spring Rolls with pickled veggies on the side and a fantastic sweet Thai chili sauce - Thai Iced Coffee: my mom's best friend's hubby got this. Quite tasty. - Crab Fried Rice: my mom got. Delish! - Drunken Noodles with Tofu: my mom's best friend got this. A little spicy but again delicious! - Basil Beef: my mom's best friend's hubby got this. It smelt delish with a kick. - Shrimp with Asparagus: mine and I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. Dessert we split the blackberry lemonade pie. Again super tasty and yummy. Not overly sweet either. The ambiance is super nice yet intimate. Great locally owned restaurant. The fusion part made the menu funny to us. It means I could definitely come here with my husband. He'd get the French Onion Soup and Steak and I'd get the Thai food. However, since I was with four of my girlfriends, we stuck with the Thai dishes. Here's what we got and what I thought: Sweet N Sour Grouper - it's a house made sauce and it was absolutely delicious. The grouper was huge, lightly fried and I would 100% get this again. It was my favorite dish. Red Curry Duck - This dish had a kick to it. I found the duck very tender though and I really enjoyed it. Thai Drunken Noodles with Chicken - This was a good portion size. It's good, but I would get the two dishes above before this one. Shrimp Asparagus - Also good, but it was closer to the average side for me. Chicken Satay - This is your standard chicken satay dish. I liked the peanut sauce that it came with and it's a good size for an appetizer. They do have a limited wine list and $20 corkage fee if you bring your own. No liquor. It's a small restaurant, but it was only about half full on a Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. I hope more people are doing takeout, because this restaurant deserves to survive. The decor is modern and you'd feel comfortable in both jeans and a dress here. I think our server was also one of the owners and she was very nice. They bring out bread and butter to start the meal, again more of a French influence. She never rushed us and let us happily chat away. It's quite small inside so there is an intimate feeling. Jarunee was our server and she was both pleasant and helpful with the menu. We ordered the sweet and sour grouper as well as the sweet potato crusted salmon. Both fish were great portion sizes, cooked well, creative, very flavorful and the meal was balanced with jasmine rice and a veggie. We cleared the plate! It was so delicious. Checked out Paul's Fusion Kitchen while visiting Tampa, and had a fantastic time dining at this restaurant! We ordered the Oyster Rockefeller, Ahi Tuna, French Onion Soup, Thai Drunken Noodles with Shrimp, and Thai Tea. The good: All of the dishes tasted amazing! Can't go wrong with any of the food items. French Onion Soup had such great flavors in the broth, and love the cheesiness of it. The Oyster Rockefeller was delicious, and the oyster was a good portion with 5 oysters, and it came out hot and fresh. Ahi Tuna tasted fresh, and went great with the fusion sauce. Thai Drunken Noodles with Shrimp was terrific, and the noodles were not soggy or hard to chew, and it had a great consistency. Thai Tea was so good, that I ordered another one. The bad: Nothing! I absolutely adore this place! I can't believe we found this a little place in the corner. It's never busy here, I wish it was because the food is so authentic and tasteful! It's family ran and they're always so friendly here, they greet you with a smile. Prices are not terribly bad. And the restaurant is set up very cute, however, not many tables are inside. I think I possibly could have been at the restaurant on an off-day, maybe, maybe not. I visited Paul's Fusion Kitchen for my selection for October from my Offline membership. I hadn't heard of it until then, but knew it was newer the TB area as I have been in the same plaza before for other establishments and hadn't seen it before. Walking in the place is small but cute, nicely decorated, modern but I have to admit that I was really glad to see that only 1 other table of 3 customers were there as the tables are close together with booth seating on the one side so a little too close for my comfort when trying to enjoy a meal and not feel like your neighbors are in your coversation as well or when the person getting up from the booth slides uncomfortably close on your table or even food. I'd suggest to them to lose even 1 two person table to make it more spaced out. Thankfully, it was not my problem during my visit, but I could see it turning people away. Just an observation. The service was quick and friendly, offering just the right amount of time to review the menu before asking if I was ready. I decided to go with the go-to Chicken Pad Thai. This dish will tell me everything I need to know, personally about a Thai place. I asked about the spice levels as I don't care for too much spice and was advised that they give the spice on the side to add as we please. Perfect. The food came out very quickly and, at first sight, looked great. When presented, I actually thought, "shit, I forgot to ask for extra bean sprouts," which is a thing of mine in almost all dishes that have them, but oh well, my fault. In the side dishes were nicely chopped peanuts to be able to top at your desired levels and then red pepper flakes. Though I don't care for too much spice, I was surprised to see this was the only spice option. Flakes wouldn't exactly evenly spread the desired spice level across the dish. It's more like if your bite has flakes in it. My first bite was not what I was expecting at all. As mentioned, I LOVE bean sprouts and normally order extra, but that was literally the only taste I got from the bite. I make sure that my bites generally always have every element of the dish within the fork full to get the full experience. Needless to say, I was taken aback immediately. I forked through the dish and noticed that the bean sprouts were not only extremely fresh, with many parts still being young and green, larger in size than many restaurants, so I believe all these components actually made them too over powering even for someone who orders extra normally. I started to pull off the bean from the sprout to try to tone down the overpowering taste in the dish as much as possible other than completely removing them, which would be ludicrous! I stopped eating because I really just couldn't get past that with all the other ingredients in this dish that the main focus were the bean sprouts. I asked for it to go so that I could take it home to Ben to give his opinion. On my way home, I chatted with Ben about my experience, and his response was "it takes a special place/recipe to take the one ingredient someone loves the most and make it the one ingredient they hate the most in a dish". I 100% know that those are harsh words, but I wouldn't be truthful if I didn't admit to the conversation and hope that the restaurant owner or chef is reading this as constructive criticism and tweak their recipe. I have to admit that all the other reviews are giving praises, so maybe I was there on an off night when the chef wasn't there and recipes weren't followed correctly but I also have to admit that if you make me dislike a dish for over usage of one of my favorite ingredients, I most likely won't be back. 4 stars for a nice place for some Thai food! From the outside you don't think the restaurant will look as nice but when you walk in it's decorated so nicely. It's a smaller space but the tables are all placed along a long booth with pretty green velvet. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls to start, $10.95. I think it was a little small of a portion but they were tasty. The drunken noodles was what we ordered for our entree, $17. It comes with 4 larger shrimp. I didn't really love that the noodles were thin but the dish was tasty otherwise. It would have been nice to have more veggies, it just had different peppers with basil. Where is someplace new to me with great food , great atmosphere , unique menu ... patron photos that look yum. I can always find a great new place with Yelp. This place was very small but very good vibe and atmosphere , the shopping center it's in is not impressive and you'll be surprised when you drive up ... but once inside you'll realize. Service was great ... prices good in my opinion for these dishes Most of the tables are 2 seaters ( 2 people sitting across from each other at a very small table ) ... although they had a few bigger tables for larger parties , they prob wouldn't be sitting only 2 at those. Man.... Tampa has another gem!! Enter Paul's fusion kitchen - A Thai/French concept with awesomely fresh food. Red duck curry - we've all had some duck that was dried out and tough but that is not the case here. The curry is very fragrant and the duck is tender as can be. The spinach that comes on the side with bacon is divine as well. Paul's crab cakes - Who doesn't love a good crab cake , typically these tend to have too much mayonnaise or salt but here it is done perfectly. It tastes authentic and the sauce and lemon together are the cherry on top, very very good crab cakes!! Ahi tuna - As good as it gets!! Perfectly seared ahi , high quality and tender. This was the best ahi tuna I've had done this way , subtle sesame flavor , with amazing dipping sauces. Service - amazing our server was so friendly and checked our table frequently. Couldn't ask for anything more than an attentive server. Ambiance - The interior is beautiful as you can tell from the photos, which doesn't do Paul's fusion kitchen Justice. There was nice wooden accents and nice hanging lights that give off a gentle warm feel. This place is a must try because everything is guaranteed to be great from the food to the people. The chicken basil was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted...it is absolutely 100% delicious!!! All of the flavors were just phenomenal. There is only one thing strange about this place... I can't tell if they serve alcohol and did not offer it to us or this place is BYOB and we did not know about it. Therefore, both couples split an entree. We both got the pad Thai which is really good and went to another restaurant for meal round two where we could have a drink. Others were drinking though! We've tried a few dishes here and they were mostly very tasty. The first time we were here we tried the chicken satay, the beef Thai salad and the sweet and sour grouper. I definitely think the chef was holding back on adding spice to the food, perhaps out of fear that it may be too spicy, but in doing so the flavors were a bit unbalanced with sweetness predominating the dish. The chicken satay was kinda bland, but the beef salad was good. On a separate occasion we tried the Thai soup as well as pad Thai and the duck curry dish. All three were very good and this time the spice level was right on point. We had a Thai iced tea which was really good and perfect to tame the heat. I wish they'd offer some traditional Thai desserts, instead they have a few pie selections. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee.
