Don't go to inexperienced "hair stylists" at this place (they all are). I got a cut and color and was very disappointed with the results.......within a week, an orange stripe went down the middle of my hair in the back. I will not go to this Paul Mitchell or any other location because Paul Mitchell (Nina/manager) REFUSES to allow me to add gratuity on my credit card payment for a haircut. Nina first said it was Federal LAW that prevented them from allowing gratuity to be added to the Credit Card charge. When asked which Federal law, she said well it is a State LAW. I again asked for which State Law, and she was flustered as she realized that she had just was caught in misinformation (LIED) to me and I was requesting her to provide the information to back up her refusal to allow me to add gratuity to the charge. Bottom line, Paul Mitchell stores (at least the few I researched) refuse to be Customer Friendly and allow for gratuity to be added to the charge. Paul Mitchell went "Cashless" (sad), what about the members of society that also are primarily "Cashless" thus fully expecting the option to add gratuity when paying for the service. Kudos to Kaylan for a great haircut ($12), I was lucky enough to have a $10 bill to give Kaylan a gratuity. Back to Nina, She was never rude and had a pleasant disposition as I called her out on her continued misinformation (lying). I actually provided her with my contact info so she could get back to me with the exact reason why she refused to accept gratuity on a charge card and who is responsible for this horrible law/ordinance/policy. It has been several days and I have heard nothing from Nina. I guess she thought I would forget about it. I did not...... Can you believe that Paul Mitchell charges $26k for a 9 month (1,500 hours) school? A person can go to a state university and get a 4 year degree for the same money. Paul Mitchell has lost my respect and business for being Cashless, refusing to accept Gratuity via charge card and abusing their students with exorbitant tuition and not being student nor customer friendly by accepting Cash or gratuity on charges. I wish Kaylan the best (solid haircut) and pray that Paul Mitchell can live up to their former reputation as to NOT put Nina in awkward situations all day long, everyday. Also, Amanda the Jr Instuctor was wonderfully helpful and respectful to Kaylan as she oversaw Kalyan's work. (TIPS=To Insure Proper Service and is to be paid prior to the service. I scheduled an appointment with a specific person (I did not want anyone else) two days ago 10/28/19) for 1:15 pm. I received a voice mail confirmation yesterday(10/29/19), as well as a text message confirmation this morning (10/30/19). I paid for a babysitter to watch my two month old so I could get my hair cut and colored because I wanted to feel like a human being again. I also found a ride to this appointment as I am not allowed to drive. When I get there, the receptions seemed as if they did not know what they were doing and it took 10 minutes to even get me checked in. 20 minutes later a girl comes and gets me and takes me to her station (not the girl I requested to be my stylist). Confused, I ask the girl about my requested stylist. She then goes up front to ask them about it and comes back and tells me they double booked the girl I requested and I could go talk to them about it. I get up front and the receptionists are very rude to me and as if I had made the mistake. So, they double booked an appointment with my requested stylist and thought they could send me back with anyone (no offense to that girl it wasn't her fault) without me noticing and did not have the decency to let me know the scheduling conflict when I arrived. This cost me not only money for a babysitter but I also had to find and pay for an impromptu ride home. My cousin (requested stylist) was the one who was supposed to do my hair and that is the ONLY reason I came to a school to get my hair done anyways. Due to past (bad) experiences with Paul Mitchell hair school I would have NEVER came here to get my hair done just for the fun of it. So, not only was this my last option to get my hair done but it was made to be very inconvenient and costly trip and I came home with a bad taste in my mouth and crappy hair. No one even offered any sort of compensation for the whole thing, the receptionist were very self righteous about their scheduling and treated me poorly. When my boyfriend contacted them to ask about it, he was shuffled off to the director and she has not responded. Someone needs to be held responsible for these types of mistakes and if no one respond, I will let every business rating service possible know what kind of dump of a business this is, including consumer protection agencies and the BBB. So let me start off by saying that I WILL be returning to this place. My three star review is based off of some things that happened that really have nothing to do with how my hair ultimately turned out. The hair first: so I got a cut and color. I am very nervous and picky when it comes to my hair color especially. I've had some bad experiences and don't like to have further bad experiences! Admittedly, I wanted my dark blonde hair lifted to a pale neutral blonde (very light, but not white - still blonde). This sounds easy because my natural color is already fairly light, but blonde is complicated. I also wanted a short pixie cut, which ALSO isn't the easiest thing to do. Taylor did my hair along with the help of an instructor, and I think she made a really good effort. It took an extremely long time, and that's something you need to be aware of before going to this place. These are students who are learning through doing, so it takes them longer. That was fine with me, but I was a bit bothered by the multiple lectures I got that basically amounted to a bunch of excuses as to why they couldn't get the look I was describing. This even happened when I mentioned and showed pictures of this look having been done successfully on previous occasions at my old salon. I've had short pale blonde hair (when I didn't let it grow out to my natural) for about 16 years now. This exact color has been successfully done on my head hundreds of times. Now...even if it's true that hair color can turn out differently or not take properly from one time to the next....first of all, that isn't my experience, and secondly, I don't think they should be blaming the color not working out on the customer's hair. They're the stylists and control the color application. I'm ultimately pretty happy with my hairstyle. I may update if need be after I wash my hair and style on my own, but as of immediately after the appointment, even though I'm exhausted I gotta say it looks pretty epic. So I'm pleased with that. Some additional things I want to mention though that contributed to my three star review: 1. Again, it took an extremely long time. Two visits. Probably around 8 hours in total. This actually isn't why I'm only rating three stars, because I expected the longer time, but I have to say both times left me utterly exhausted, I think because I had to go without eating for a very long time. This may not be an issue for everyone, but I have some medical conditions and this was very taxing for me. 2. Speaking of medical things, I also got injured while there. The student next to Taylor dropped her iPad pretty forcefully on my shoulder because she got excited over her mom calling. It WAS an accident, but it hurt so bad I struggled against crying for nearly half an hour. The pain is still really bad and between that and the exhaustion I am feeling from the length of time this took, I've been fighting nausea and more tears tonight. I also have a pretty nasty bruise forming. My pain tolerance is NOT low - I have Ehlers-Danlos and have dislocated my shoulder with less pain than this, but I think because the iPad landed right onto the bulk of the muscle at the top of my shoulder this bruised really deeply. I tried to take it in stride because I don't think she realized how badly she hurt me, but then this same person tossed out my coffee (which was on Taylor's station, not hers!). I'm pretty sure that was when I showed some real irritation, because I was in pain AND had no coffee. When I said something about it she gave me $5 for the coffee, but the entire thing left me feeling really off balance. Plus, I'm just hoping my shoulder is ok. Overall, I would recommend this place. There are things to work on there, but the people are very friendly and the atmosphere is upbeat. I will be going back, and probably next time just take more snacks with me. And hopefully not get hurt again! read more

I have a lot of issues with my experience here, and while I don't want this to sound like a laundry list, it might. This place is pretty close to my office, and I thought I would give it a try. I understand that the work is done by students. I asked to have a level 2 student, about half way through my appointment, it became quite clear this was no level 2 student. The teacher introduced herself at the beginning of the appointment, and did not come back the entire time. I had to guide my hair cutter (who was as sweet as could be) through my own hair cut, which turned out not so amazing (because I am an accountant, not a hair dresser). All of these issues were raised to the person at the school who seemed to be in charge, but were dismissed. She pretty much said "it is what it is." I think what is more important to discuss here than the quality of my haircut is the quality of education that students are receiving. I couldn't find an instructor to help the poor girl with my hair. Students were roaming around all over the place, seemingly unsupervised, and definitely uninstructed. If students are going to invest in their education in hair styling, they should do it elsewhere. In my humble opinion, you won't receive a quality one here. read more

I went in for a fun new look and came out feeling beautiful with the help of a student named Natalie who was in her final months of education and she was fabulous,confident and very talented! The place was beautiful,the students were laughing and having fun and the director of the school even came out to check on me and thank me for coming in! I have been countless times and always have such great luck! The stylists are trained before they go to the floor. The teachers double check everything before any color service starts and they al ways respect my want for a light trim ( trying to grow out my hair). I think I got lucky the first time. I have been back twice since and have had to re-do my hair as soon as I got home. I just do not like the "technique" taught at Paul Mitchell. Which is to blow dry hair on high heat with a paddle brush. An Italian girl with curly hair like myself needs a big round bristle brush on medium heat and then just small sections and patience. I also believe hat blow drying in the direction your hair should fall is necessary. The last two girls here basically burnt the crap outa my hair and were blow drying up and under and all over. Just looked terrible. I'm sure there are some good eggs in the batch, but I will not be returning to sort through the bunch. read more

I came here looking for a cute pixie-cut with mohawk-like hints and a color. It was my first time getting color and the lady seemed excited and we made great conversation about piercings, tattoos, and people in general at my age. We talked about high school and what a crazy kid she was (she had a demonic cupcake on her arm). I told her to do what she liked best and asked for red undertones but a black haircut. She made it a little too auburn for my likes, not quite neon enough. However, we could easily go for something more striking next time I visit. The haircut it itself was great and the service was nice. My only compliant was that I didn't exactly get the, 'mohawky' feel that I wanted. Otherwise, I would totally recommend again. read more

I went in to get my hair cut and colored 2 days ago. The cut was great and the lady who did my hair was super sweet and made sure I was happy with what was being done to my hair. I wanted pink hair so I chose the "Peachy Keen" dye which looked promising but once it was on my hair it was barely pink at all. It looked more like a tint at the end and I'm too noncontroversial to say anything if there was any chance for miscommunication. I washed my hair this morning and it literally just looks the exact same as it did before I came in. For as little change that occurred I should not have paid anywhere near as much as it costed. read more

I have been a customer here for over 7 years. Never had a complaint about the services I jave received. Love the stylists the managers or style professionals as they call them have always been on the rude side, but that hasnt stopped me from coming in. This last time, I scheduled my appointment 2 weeks out. After I attempted to schedule even before then, left voice messages at the salon with no return call. Told them exactly what I wanted. They scheduled me for a 1 pm appointment. I had even stated, can we do morning because my hair ALWAYS takes about 4 hours. The host looked at my file and told me timing will be fine. I am a single mom with kids ..it is an AMAZING day when I get to get my hair done! I cannot do weekdays as I work and cannot afford to take a day off to get my hair done. I arrived for my appointment at 12:45. Did not get called back until 1:24. Then the manager came and told me they do not have time to do my hair. I asked why, explained my situation about scheduling ahead and she stated. "Sorry it must have been a part time receptionist who didnt know what she was doing". I stated please I have gotten a baby sitter and scheduled in advance. They still said no. The stylist was trying to tell the "professional" she could get it done and the manager refused saying "too bad" but offered to dye my roots..(mind you i have dark purple hair that fades into blonde.. Just A root touch would look rediculous) I asked if I could at least get a trim and the manager stated no. We have other people waiting to take your spot. I asked how this was possible since walk INS are not happening right now and the managers response was "it is what it is". The manager suggested I ask for my money back from my babysitter and reschedule. I was highly upset and just sad at the service. read more

Came here for the cheap senior day prices but do they not know the color chart? Came here to have my mom's NATURAL white hair transformed into a fun silver grey grey color, came back a few hours later to find her with BLUE AND PURPLE HAIR with RED BROWN roots. For those who don't know, there is no silver dye but rather a combination of colors but the hair was already WHITE naturally so no bleaching necessary... so what the h*ll happened?! They ruined my hair! Three of us went in, three of us had horrible experiences! Mine being the worst, went in and had cut and root retouch up, I did not have 4 hours for cut and color, I told the teacher with waist length blond flowin hair I did not want my hair dark, just the roots up a few shades until I could get it colored! She had the student color my hair brown (if I can up load a before and after picture I will) 2) there is one teacher to a dozen students mine will graduate this week! My hair goes past the middle of my back, the student accidentally cut my hair at ear level on one side and never said anything! The teacher saw and came over and proceeded to cut my hair at shoulder level to try to even it out? And NO ! I had no idea as she was snipping wisps all over for 30 minutes. No apology, I would have left it long and for the next several years just pin back the one side. All I can say is NEVER NEVER GO THERE! And I had to pay $60.00 each of us for ruined hair read more

I had an appointment scheduled for 1:30 on a Saturday. I arrived 30 minutes early and checked in. They told me to go ahead and make myself comfortable. After 20 minutes, the girl at the desk came to get me and told me that they couldn't get me in because they were too busy. I don't know whether students didn't show up or if they just over booked, but I was very disappointed. They offered a 50% discount if I rescheduled, but I'd rather go somewhere else. read more

I moved out of state about six months ago and have still been coming to my regular hairdresser when I come to town for other things.This time I was going on eight weeks since last cut and color. My two daughters were also scheduled to get their haircut. My hairdresser contacted me that she was sick Saturday morning. We had to act fast and called Paul Mitchell and they were able to get us all in on Saturday. We were nervous because we have had the same hairdresser for years. I used to come here quite often and was fairly pleased with the services I got but my last few visits have really turned me off from the place. Every time I have had an appointment scheduled, I have shown up 20 minutes early and checked in. For some reason the student has been told I have not shown up. This has caused me to wait for almost 45 minutes past my appointment times. I can understand this happening occasionally but this has happened at least 4-5 times for me. Then when I finally get to have my hair cut it takes almost 2 hours to layer it and cut an inch off the ends. My hair is long and thick but at other salons it has taken far less time for half the price. And almost every time I've asked for them to thin out my hair the student has messed up and used the wrong side of the scissors leaving a short chunk of hair that takes months to look normal again. Save yourself the time, money, and hassle and go somewhere else. read more

Terrible terrible experience i came asking for a full head highlight and was talked into or shall i say basically forced into something i absolutely hated ended up paying 250 dollars and having to come back two weeks later the students name was kiki she was rude acted in a hurry and when i explained i did not want what she was trying to give me got up set i mran hello i faid damn near 300 dollars i deserve a hairstyle i want. I went in the get my roots touched up, I have highlights. The hairdresser did not go up high enough, the color added did not match so it would have left a line matching neither my highlight color or my hair color growing out. There were spots left undone throughout my hair. I went back and asked if they could fix it, they gave me full highlights in an unnatural unflattering shade that brought out the red tones in my skin. I had explained I work in a professional office environment both times I went in. I was never offered my money back. I have since spent a lot of money to fix all the damage to my hair from these dye jobs and to correct the color. I will not be returning. read more

If this is what you do, dont be scared, don't be afraid to wash or blow dry natural thick hair. The whole time I was there I was so aggravated, well not the entire time. The student and I had a very good conversation she was polite and welcoming. When it came time to wash my hair she did not touch my scalp at all. It was more like running fingers through tangled hair an absolute disappointment. With my type of hair (4b, Black very thick hair) you've got to actually wash the hair and use your fingertips to penitrate all the way to scalp. When we got it the blow dry portion. .... it took her 40 min to semi blow dry the back of my head. What in the world! she did not have the proper tools at all. I actually had to show her a way to blow dry my hair and with me doing that it still took her forever. I ended leaving w half wet and dry hair. I went in for a wash an trim, needless to say I did not get that trim.. read more

I had a lovely experience at The Paul Mitchell school. I made an appointment for a specific Phase II student to get my hair colored, deep conditioned and trimmed. She took excellent care of me and was a great conversationalist while coloring my hair. I was extremely impressed with the spa like atmosphere of the washroom where she rinsed my hair. She was very knowledgeable about all of the products she used as well. I left with gorgeous dark brown hair (from red) with no missed spots, it was super soft from the conditioning treatment, and it was trimmed to perfection. I went in for a scheduled appointment for a cut, color and ombre. I was scheduled with a student who was "phase 1" and couldn't complete my service since she isn't capable of doing an ombre. No big deal even though I was very clear on the phone about what services I wanted to receive. I was then given to a "phase 2" student 35 minutes after my scheduled appointment to do the service. She was nice but I left with a lopsided & jagged cut. The deep purple ombre I wanted turned into a light purple balayage that you had to squint to see. After they bleached me they went to put the purple on and just used their new FX line with some toner in the bowl, It sat for 10 minutes and that was it. The instructor told me thanks for allowing me to be their "guinea pig and to experiment on my hair". Yeah, I didn't agree to that. The girl dried and curled it and repeatedly said that she wasn't going to let me see it until it was done. I was so disappointed when she showed me my hair & I was just so tired I left. I went back the day after I washed my hair (the stylist curled it and I couldn't see how messed up the cut was) to get it fixed. They said it would be free for the haircut (which a phase 1 student fixed) but $27-$40 for a redo on my balayage. I spent a significant amount of money the first time and 7.5 hours of my time, I opted out. Two instructors came by to tell me that I should go to a real salon to get what I want or pick a different color because they can't do what I want. One of them even gave me her business card & apologized because my hair was nothing like the 15 pictures I showed them prior to the service. That would have been REALLY nice to know prior to dropping the money and time I did. I've been to several Aveda schools and they are much better and much more honest with their abilities. Do not waste your time or money here. Go to a professional. If they mess up and you don't like it, even if it's a day later, they will not give you your money. Theyll ask you to drive all the way back to "discuss," but it's really just to tell you that you can't get your money back. They'll try to offer you a free service, but the kicker is you have to pay for the product they use during the service. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that, that is not free. So just go somewhere that you know you will be satisfied. I thought they received a lot of education before they did hair, but the student doing my hair did not have a clue on Earth as to what she was doing and I really wish I never wasted my money there. just returned from the school getting my hair washed and dried. I have very long hair and occasionally use the school to take care of it. Everything started out ok. I was taken to the shampoo room and was getting my hair washed. The girl that was doing me probably didn't say 10 words to me the whole time.She held a conversation with the other students. After she finished washing my hair she squeezed some of the water out and patted it with a towel. She then just handed my wet hair to me to carry back out to her area. No towel just hair. After we got back to the chair the student from the next booth came over with a brush and started to help. I asked what they were using and insisted on the wide tooth comb. I also asked that they dry my hair a little before combing. Here comes thier supervisor the student that was helping had went and got her. The supervisor says if they did that it would be to hard on them. Well I thought I was the customer but evidently not. She tells the to just use their hands to comb out my hair.They started combing my hair and pulling it out. I insisted they dry it first. The extra student left and the one assigned to me did a half way job at drying my hair. I finally just said go ahead and comb it. I watched the extra student put her comb on her station and also saw her use that same comb without cleaning it on her customer. Needless to say this was probably my last trip there. read more

I got a Groupon for services here and before I made my appointment, I went in and asked face to face about the details of the groupon and what services I could apply it too. I made sure I was going to be able to use it for what I wanted. Appointment day I showed up on time and their system was down. I sat for 45 minutes (even as the first appointment of the day) before anyone called my name. I told the student what I wanted and that I had a groupon for it and she was awesome, kind, and excited to do it. After 40 minutes of prep, the sales manager Nina storms over and very aggressively says it can't be done. The Groupon doesn't apply to that service. After 10 minutes of me staying calm and trying to negotiate with this hostile manager, I gave up and stormed out. They promised one thing and then refused to honor it. No exceptions. I lost 1.5 hours of my day and I can only afford to get my hair done twice a year. Now I have a groupon I wasted money on that isn't good for anything at a location with dishonest business practices and hateful management. read more

After retiring and moving to Murfreesboro, I thought I would give this school a try. After all I no longer was so concerned about a professional appearance, but a more casual one. For the first few monthly appointments for a touch up and maintaining a short cut, it was fine. However, once I decided to let my hair grow and needed a trim to help it grow out gracefully and wanted a warmer, darker color for winter, with highlights, it was disaster. After spending 5 hours there, I left without a style of any sort and a too light overall color with non discernible highlights. They are students after all. I should have known that they are not stylists. A senior person offered to try to correct my highlights, but after 5 hours, I was ready to leave. I made every attempt to make my desire understood, even pointing out students that had the coloring I desired and requesting a stack cut. If you need very basic services for about half the cost of a salon, then this is fine. Beyond that, go somewhere else. read more

The Phase 2 student relaxed my entire head instead of my re growth which could very damaging to my hair, but since Paul Mitchell's relaxers/ perms are so gentle and lye free my hair is fine. read more
