I had such a great experience here!! I was actually 10 mins late because I took the wrong exit. And they were nice enough to still do my hair! I would have totally understood if they needed to reschedule. My hair was so thirsty and dry! I purchased a Groupon for a hair cut, style and your choice of a treatment. I went with the moisture treatment obviously because I really needed it! All of this for only $20! You can't beat that price! Since this is the Paul Mitchell School, students will be cutting and styling your hair. They have teachers there to keep an eye on them. The teachers will sign off before the student begins to make sure everyone is on the same page. I remember signing a waiver as well. The student who was assigned to me was fantastic! Her name is Jessica. She was sweet, friendly, patient and a perfectionist. She really took her time on my hair which I really appreciate! I was there for 3 hours. But I also have A LOT of hair. And the moisture treatment took over 30 mins. Jessica was such a joy!! She will make an awesome stylist!! I wasn't able to tip the student on the bill but you can bring cash. I was there so long so I inadvertently forgot to give her a tip! I feel terrible! But we exchanged numbers so I will be giving her a tip next time I see her. There was another stylist with red hair that was very friendly too. I don't remember her name though. Overall, this was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! I wouldn't do a balayage here... I LOVED my student! Nothing against her. But I would say I wished the instructors helped more. I was there from 9:45AM to 4PM getting it done. I have super thin hair so I don't think it should've taken that long and I wish the instructors stepped in to help knowing that it was taking a very long time. My hair was done very choppy and each instructor said it was okay... when it wasn't. Only Mr. Jones stopped and really talked with me which I appreciated. In full disclosure, my daughter (at the time of this review) is a student here. I went on her suggestion for a haircut. I've always heard about getting inexpensive haircuts at barber and beauty schools, but was never quite ready to take that dive. At almost 50-years-old, I finally said 'What the hell?' This place, from my perspective, is fun. When you walk through the doors, you'll see a diverse group of people who are there for one reason: to accomplish a dream. There is everything from color and curls, to cuts and washes. Everyone is trying to perfect a craft, while the teachers shadow them to help ensure success. My first time here was on my daughter's request. They were all testing that day, and I was among the test subjects. While my first-born still has some work to do on blending a zero-to-one fade, I left looking fine -- and she earned some valuable experience. Apparently, color is their big thing, and I witnessed a number of people with foil in their hair. But I'll just stick with the salt & pepper. And yes ... you'll pay a fraction of what you would once these students graduate. read more

Beware! I really didn't want to do this but I have tried my hardest to get refunded and the school refuses. I would not get highlights done here! Beware! I called and scheduled partial foil highlights. The teacher had an attitude and told the student to do a paint technique and beached my whole head. I lost almost all of my lowlights and my undercolor was bleached to a strawberry blonde color. I made it clear what I wanted and even asked them when they started bleaching my dark undercolor. I also said I do not want any I was assured it would still have dark and contrast. My roots did not lift long enough and were brassy. I am normally a very easy to please customer. I'm new to the area so I decided to have my highlights touched up since it's not expensive. After having to go back to the school 4 more times and spend at least 15 hours there my hair was left like this. I was told I should go to a salon to get it fixed and they refuse to give me my $87. So now I had to find a salon pixie and ivy in pearland to fix this and it is costing me around $150-200 to get it somewhat back to normal. It won't even be the same as what it was until it grows out and the red comes out. After speaking to the director multiple times they said this is a learning school and they did everything they could to help me and suggested I go to a salon to have it fixed. They refused to refund me. I spent 4 trips, approx 12-15 hours and when all is said and done I will have spent so much money. Long story short. It will cost you way more to go here. I know they are students but the teacher had an attitude and told the student to do something I didn't ask for which ruined my hair. read more

Blow in, blow out!!!! Finding a place on this side of town where you can get a blowout on a Monday afternoon is like finding the magical pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow. I found this out the hard way after frizzing up like a chia pet during the crazy rains and high humidity we had recently. My salon, like most was closed, so I decided to give the school a call to check pricing and availability. OK, on pricing alone they beat other places by a long shot - super reasonable! They were able to fit me in within the hour and off I went. They paired me up with a phase II student (described on their website as "visionary students who have outstanding attendance, attitude and technical skills") and we did a quick consult as to what I wanted. Her instructor came by to confirm and to recommend products to be used based on my hair texture. Once all the niceties were ironed out, off we went to the shampoo station. This area of the workspace is very relaxing and is set up to resemble a spa. They were playing new age music, the lights were dimmed, and the vibe was set to make you feel like you were the center of the world - score! As for the actual blowout, it went pretty well. My stylist had the technique down pat and was even open to my sharing feedback regarding where I would like more volume among other things. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I'm glad I now have a plan B for when I need to get this horse mane under control on a whim. read more

Took 5 hours. Appointment was at 10:30 didn't even get started till after 11. Hair is uneven with the highlights. One side of my head has only one streak of highlights. It looks orange. I left at 4:10 pm , it is now 11:10pm and I can't sleep because my scalp is burning. She scrubbed my scalp really rough to shampoo and scrubbed it to condition it. Then scrubbed it to tone it. And scrubbed again to shampoo and condition. Then while blow drying my head felt like it was on fire from all the scrubbing. She darkened my hair underneath way darker than my natural hair color. I feel bad because she was nice and she's learning. But I shouldn't have to be in pain and I paid $60, now I have to go spend another $200-300 to color correct it somewhere else.... I mean I could go back, but I don't want to sit there another 5 or more hours. I had somewhere to go tommorow, that's why I was getting my hair done..., well it looks horrible! And I don't think I want anyone touching it for at least a week. read more

This is a bit delayed. I went here about two months ago! I came in once I had given up on some really old color I had. About 2 years prior I bleached my hair from brown to platinum. After a year I started playing with colors (Blues and Purples mainly)... a year later there was still a pretty significant blue color to the hair that had grown out with the bleaching.. and way too many grays in the regrowth! I was nervous as others had told me I would need to use at least a little additional bleach on my hair prior to going back to brown in order to not end up with a murky greenish brown color... however, when I walked in they said that although they would need to go a little darker, that they didn't expect any issues. They were right! It was a great experience from beginning to end. They ran thru what they wanted to do, what I wanted.. let me know a good suggested scheduled for when I should come back and were just pleasant and fun. The whole experience was organized and enjoyable. Something I wasn't sure I would find at a beauty school. I had been to another one previously that felt much more like a group of students just playing around, where as this felt like I was at a real salon that was instead just training new talent. Very unprofessional and unorganized. I love Paul Mitchell and literally own every product and tool available. When this place was suggested to me I was very nervous but never could I have imagined the outcome. The student who worked on my hair literally asked another student "why did She have to get someone with such long hair?" I was told Balayage wouldnt look good on straight hair and offered a technique the student obviously wasn't comfortable conducting. She was Noticeably upset she had to continue mixing more product at the bar. Im obviously not a student or professional but it was apparent the product was not distributed evenly through my hair. She was so rough and careless, leaving product on my face and Virgin hair. Another student was kind enough to clean it off with a spray bottle. I was told by the instructor that she would be monitoring the procedure and that was not the case. When she finally did return for a "walk through" I was very upset and asked for someone else or some sort of help. Instead she RUDELY replied "This is my Classroom and you knew these were Students!" At that point I asked for all product to be removed from my hair and went to a salon that wanted my buisness. I was told by the campus instructor the student did a great job and the unfinished results were even... Not true. The stylist who thankfully saved my hair couldnt believe what she was seeing and even more amazed that the horrible patch work was carried out at a Paul Mitchell School. She had to use toner and color to correct my uneven multi-colored hair. I had level 10 developer sitting on my head for an hour and The Paul Mitchell student was only half finished with the application... FORTUNATELY for me it was only a 10 developer and I left before any more damage occured. Atleast that is what I was told by a professional. My intentions are not to insult the students who ENJOY doing hair and atleast try or the Instructors who actually care about future Paul Mitchell clients but warn others to avoid the level of disappointment and horrific experience I encountered. Just got home from my appt at the Paul Mitchell School. I haven't had a hair cut and color in a long time but decided to give this a try. TAMMY HOANG was my hair stylist and she did an AMAZING job. I had no idea what I wanted to get done and she was very patient and walked me through didn't options and different cuts that would flatter my face. I have VERY long dark hair and I decided I wanted bayalage, layers in the front, and I wanted my hair to look full bodied. So it's a lot of requests for someone in "school" but she was able to deliver on everything I asked for. I could really tell she was detail oriented and took her time to make sure she did it right. I need to come back in a week for a hair treatment for coloring my hair and because my hair was practically black I need to come back one more time to get to the blonde I want. You can't go wrong getting your hair done here. When I call to get an appointment I will ask for an advanced student and this seems to guarantee that the time to do my hair is no longer than 3 hours. They went above and beyond for my kids. The teachers are very visible on the floor and know what they are talking about. My daughter does not smile in new and exciting situations but one of the teachers asked one of the students to braid her hair, then showered her with gifts.
