This was absolutely the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I would give 0 stars if I could. I was treated disrespectfully and the experience was hostile almost the whole time.
When I come in for my appointment that I scheduled a week prior I'm greeted with "Hey Kiddo." I'm a 29 year old man with an 8 year old and a 8 month pregnant wife, show me some respect. I squinted at the receptionist thinking maybe she was expecting someone else, but it gets worse. I say "hi, I'm here for my 12:20 braces consultation" and the receptionist's demeanor changes and she begins talking to me like I've offended her for coming to the appointment I likely scheduled with her personally on the phone. She says she doesn't have any knowledge of my appointment and when I ask if we can look it up she tells me the network is down! I say ok... but she takes me back anyway and as we're walking she says again "this way kiddo". I tell her "I'm not a kiddo, but ok" and she responds "well, you're a kiddo to me." Unbelievable... When the orthodontist enters the room he goes to shake my hand, but out of an abundance of caution for my pregnant wife I go for the elbow bump. He seems slightly offended by this (probably doesn't think Covid is real) and says something along the lines of "these kids know all the cool hand gestors" and "look at him circle all the 'no's' [on the symptoms sheet]" as if I'm a 12 year old and he's impressed that I know what I'm doing. I turn to him, look him dead in the eyes and say "why does everyone keep calling a kid? I'm a 29 year old man with children of my own." He says "well, you're a kid to me, kid once removed." The audacity! Take some responsibility for your language, sir.
We get to chatting and by this point I'm obviously not going to use their service but I thought to myself, well I'm here, I might as well see if they can change my mind. Immediate disappointment. He begins with a spheal about how if I get braces my tongue thrusting may cause braces to fail and seems to actively be trying to convince me not to get braces, even going as far to quote that buzzword phrase "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results", as if he's the first person to ever say it and effectively calling me insane for seeking treatment. He also tells a story about his childhood where he picked up a turtle (I don't remember the context I wasn't really paying attention anymore) and the dental hygienist in the room wholesomely comments "that's a cute story!" and he says "well not really" in a transparent attempt to exert power over his employee but invalidating a perfectly reasonable response to something that he said. It must be hell working for this guy!
I don't know if these people got off on the wrong foot with me or what, but I'm still totally amazed at how toxic the work environment was. Don't get orthodontic treatment Sherick unless you're comfortable with an out of touch Boomer who is willing to actively shame anyone younger than his own out-of-touch generation. read more
