If we are ever back in the area, we will stay again. We were on a motorcycle with a popup camper, so always call and check, when the website is a little gray on what kind of campers are allowed. I almost just skipped right over calling and checking this gem out!

The first season we stayed, it went pretty well but this was also while it was cold outdoors, rainy and we were running on our own propane supply. This summer, however, we ultimately decided to uproot and find another park. Now, I will say Gigi and Don are nice enough people and they do try to keep their park up. We don't have any complaints about the grounds itself. Or the patrons. However, it stands to reason that the upper part of park is going to require more power usage from patrons because it has no shade at all. Our RV is metal, not wood. Before it had even reached the 80s, we were already getting complaints about the amount of power we were using to keep our RV cool (with the AC set in the 80s). Even though we were paying every penny of the "extra" electricity. I eventually had the electrical system checked out, as they had suggested, and found that, as you'd expect, putting a metal RV in the baking Alabama sun is going to result in a hot metal RV. By the 2nd month, we were over it and decided to move parks. We're now in Wetumpka, right on the lake, rent is under $500 a month and we're not paying for electricity separately. Additionally, this campground and the groundskeep aren't causing us undue anxiety simply because we're trying to survive the summer. So, this is where we're going to be staying from now on when we're in the area. I suggest others consider looking just outside of Prattville for a better deal and more consideration.

The gentleman that answered the phone said there was space and told us to try to be there before dark. We arrived at 6:30pm, which was after dark, and were told we couldn't camp because he had locked the gate. It would have been helpful if he had told me on the phone not to bother coming if we were going to be there 30 minutes after dark instead of saying "try to be here before dark". We are now in a hotel in Montgomery. Thanks a lot.

Luckily, we paid, and were then calling the phone number to get the code, when someone who was camping pulled up behind us and put the code in for us. The small road bridge leading from the main land to the island was a little scary for me. Good thing there wasn't a car coming the other way, or I would have freaked out even more. This land is wonderful. I could see the appeal to kayak, fish, or have a picnic here, or even camp here. We stopped at the bathrooms first, and they are clean and provide running water. On our drive to the town of Spectre, we ran into the goats. We were driving down the road and all of the goats were coming at us. We put the car in park and enjoyed the goats. One goat even jumped up on my door to say hello. They are fabulous and very friendly. When we exited the vehicle at the Spectre movie set, a super friendly goat was charging at me, I immediately went into the car and the goat approached my boyfriend. All the goat wanted was some pets. And that's what he got. They are like large dogs. There are swing benches around the lake and it is nice to sit and enjoy the scenery. Watch out for goat poop. That is the only bad thing. The goats keep the island well manicured and provide the best entertainment and are adorable.

The kicker was when we realized we got a full fledged ant infestation in our RV. Luckily, I am as meticulous as a person can be, living on a brand new 35' class A w/ full kitchen while traveling across the U.S. on a food tour. Needless to say, I woke up horrified, so we made Walmart our 1st stop to pick-up foggers & traps after killing every one I could see with baby wipes, TP, paper towels & anything else I could find. My murderous rampage has me a little on edge & I am not happy about having to delay our trip while the fogger does its job & then waiting for it to clear. However, I'm just grateful it wasn't something else!!!! A flea market is held on-site every Saturday morning/afternoon. Less than 5 miles from some of Selma's historic attractions. A little noisy after dusk due to the wildlife (frogs, crickets & other night crawling non-mammals) in & around the site, but not RV AC, earplugs & your husbands snoring next to you wont drowned out. Also a group of horses just behind the site, which were not disruptive in any way. I40 is just behind the site, so truck noise begins to be apparent around 7 or 8am. All & all if not for the infestation & necessary aftermath I would have rated this place a 3 based on putting things in their proper perspective.
