Paul Brodsky Heating and Cooling was selected by my landlord to replace an old HVAC unit in disrepair. After the installation was complete, the landlord instructed me to work directly with the company owner, Paul Brodsky, to make sure everything was working correctly prior to my occupancy of the retail space. I made a call to Mr. Brodsky a week or so after the install when I realized that although the thermostat had been set to the "off" position the unit continued to run. This was after he tested the A/C but before the gas was turned on to test the heat. Mr. Brodsky could not explain why the unit was running without the thermostat in the "On" position but stated that I should have the gas meter installed so he could test all services at once afterwards. I called Mr. Brodsky again after the gas was installed and this is where things went poorly. The unit was still running though it was set to "off" on the thermostat and when I conveyed to him that I was not familiar with the unit but that it appeared to be running still I was referred to as "ignorant". "Don't be ignorant, either it's running or it's not," Mr. Brodsky stated. Admittedly I was actually ignorant to HVAC units in general so I tried not to take immediate offense and stated that unless the vibration is coming from the neighboring unit...it is indeed running. He proceeded to tell me that if he came out to investigate and the machine was not malfunctioning he would have to charge me for a visit. I brought up the "testing after the gas meter was installed" and he denied that he said that to me at any time. I explained I wasn't sure how to handle this as I was concerned that I would be saddled with a large electric bill due to the machine running without my wanting it to. Mr. Brodsky caught me totally off guard by exclaiming, "Now you're just being a b!tch!" I believe I replied with an "Excuse me?" and his second reply was, "Stop being a b!tch and shut off the breaker!" I was definitely taken aback at this point and whilst asking if he spoke to all his customers this way, he disconnected the call. I contacted the landlord and explained I would not being engaging in further conversations with this company because the owner himself resorted to name calling simply because I was concerned about the mysterious running-when-off unit he installed. If a company is not willing to come out and check a problem reported in the first week after installation what good is their warranty on installation? If I said something to offend Mr. Brodsky it's lost on me, but he apparently got offended and rather than handle it professionally he resorted to a puffy-chested, adolescent teenager. Avoid Paul Brodsky Heating and Cooling. That's my recommendation. read more
