I have purchased from The August Garden/Revival twice in this past year because I needed to send a sympathy gift on two occasions since I lived in the area many years ago. Judi suggested a beautiful lantern with a candle and floral arrangement around it. It was so well received by my friend, that I called Judi again and I just asked her to send the exact thing when my other friend's dad passed. My friend said that it was one of the most beautiful lanterns and that she loved it since it was also a keepsake. Judi was spot on. Also, for the second funeral, I did not even have the exact details of the services, but Judi found it out and made a personal delivery. You will get exactly what you want and it will be delivered exactly on time. I really like to support family owned businesses instead of the 800 flower shenanigans where you really do not get what you want each time. To my surprise, I actually received a call back from a very kind lady who took my information and spoke to me about what I wanted. She asked me to call the shop the next morning which I did and spoke to another kind and helpful lady. I was traveling from FL to attend the funeral and felt comfortable giving a budget price then asking them to use their judgement in creating something nice for me. When I arrived at the funeral, our flowers were the centerpiece of the guest table. They were absolutely gorgeous and far exceeded my expectations. I was home the other day and when I glanced out the window, I saw a delivery man approaching my home. Seeing him carrying a bouquet of flowers, I was sure he had the wrong house. To my surprise, he had the right one. A friend/co-worker had sent me the bouquet as a thank-you for all the Happy Hours and special events I organize at work. The bouquet was a small fall themed arrangement. The colors were beautiful. What impressed me the most, was the longevity of the flowers. The bouquet lasted over three weeks. I was a good recipient and watered the flowers on the regular. Since I had such a good experience as a receiver of flowers from Dick's Flowers, I'll be calling them the next time I need to send flowers in the Alton area.

Today, my 70-year-old mother went in to ask the owner for advice and see what could be done. Instead of offering any help, he was rude and dismissive. Then, when my mom made a sweet, light comment -- saying, "God's been watering the plants a little extra this year" -- he actually mocked her faith and ridiculed her relationship with God. That wasn't just bad customer service -- it was cruel, uncalled for, and incredibly disrespectful. I was shocked. She didn't deserve that, and no customer ever should. They've lost more than a sale -- they've lost loyal, long-term customers who have supported them year after year. From now on, we'll be shopping at Joe's Market Basket, where customers are valued and treated with the respect they deserve.

Being in need, I headed to the nursery that I shopped when I did my spring landscaping. To my surprise, they were out of hanging baskets. The owner who was assisting me, recommended, The Plant Stand. We shared a laugh when I told him they were the closest to my house, but I drove the distance to support him again. He appreciated my loyalty, but thought I'd find what I needed at TPS. I thanked him and started my drive back home. Now let me tell you why I haven't shopped TPS when it is the closest one to my home. It simple is, presentation. It is right on the main drag through Godfrey and it just has never been appealing enough to get me to stop by. I found a hanging basket that meet my needs and will get me through fall. I actually wanted 3, but settled on just one for the front entrance. TPS did have an average selection of plants, some of them were marked down for late season clearance. Shopping up close, I could see why it did not look appealing from the road. Many of their plants were in need of TLC. When selling plants, the dead foliage needs to be picked off, so the plants appear perky and beautiful. Many of the plants were in need of attention to make them buyer friendly. The lady working was pleasant enough and the price of my hanging basket was a good value. Appearance is everything when it comes to buying live plants. What surprised me most is that it's located in a small town in IL. This normally is the type of gift shop that you'd find in a trendy neighborhood in a big city. I was blown away by the selection of candles from two companies; Milkhouse and Malicious Women. If I had not already bought all of my holiday candles, I would have gone crazy with the scents they had to offer. When I need to re-stock my candles, it will be no internet ordering for me. I'll head down to RR and shop local. Being a foodie and one who enjoys cooking, I love a good cotton/flour sack dish towel. Especially those that have witty saying on them and I hit the jackpot here. So many to choose from. I had to stop myself at three. It also had an amazing collection of ornaments. They had a Grinch ornament that was extremely popular and they sold out it right before I arrived. It had a 2020 theme saying, it Stink, Stank, Stunk. However, I found two to add to my tree this year, so I was a happy shopper. The variety of merchandise goes on and on. They had treat jars for pets, caps, signs, soaps, birdhouses and much much more.
