Just had heart surgery. Not the best after care I have…read morereceived. Referral specialist eliminated office visits to cardiologists, wouldn't honor a chest ex-ray request from them and more. The staff is very nice and pleasant but if you need a referral, be prepared to wait or not go at all. I needed home health care after surgery, and it was refused. Cleaned my wounds myself. I have recommended several people to him over the years (he is not always taking on new patients, so check back regularly) and have had grateful communications from every one of them. One good friend that I had referred to him, after this friend had griped that his current doctor was just not that interested, complained jokingly that Dr Purcell was spending too much time on him and that his appointments were taking too long. If I had any negative it would be that during busy times (eg flu season) it can be hard to get an appointment with him, and they try to divert you to other Doctors in the (large) practice. Dr Purcell is the best doctor I have ever interacted with, in any field. PS: If you research him, you will find he is one of those rare family doctors who takes almost nothing (bribes?) from the pharmaceutical industry.

When I arrived, they were totally not prepared for the pre-op. I requested an appt within the next 3 days since my operation was 4 days away. They said they were too busy. I challenged them that they should fund a way since I did not want to cancel my operation. They made no effort. I had to go to Bayside and pay out of pocket for the pre-op tests. I then spent 6 hours on the phone over the next week attempting to get reimbursed by Humana and I planned to request the unreimbursed from Dr Keene's office. I met with their office mgr who said he would get back to me asap. He never got back to me. never returned my calls. I sent a letter certified mail to Dr Keene, who also never got back to me. I will take them to small claims court due to their total unequivocal ignorance. .
