Run don't walk. I'm giving this one star because Dr. Pattanayak's front desk clerk is very professional. My experience with Dr. Pattanayak on the other hand was less than desirable. She has a very curt and rude demeanor, lecturing me about my coverage (Denti-Cal) not being insurance. "Insurance is what you PAY for! What you have is NOT insurance!" she admonished. In actuality, many of us have paid a lot of money over the years in taxes to enjoy a temporary benefit during difficult times. Denti-Cal is indeed a form of insurance. To make matters worse, she wasn't able to get the floss out of my teeth (or was she...) as she insisted my teeth were too close together and that I needed INVISALINE. And she could sell me that...I floss every single day, have been seeing dentists for the good part of my 61 years on this planet and never have I ever had a dentist unable to floss my teeth. In the process of jerking up the floss she hurt my mouth and then in defensive mode insisted I must not floss all the way to the gums. She would be wrong. Now I ask, how is she going to fill the cavity between two teeth if she can't even manage with the floss? She then stated my "Denti-Cal" would only cover amalgam fillings and when I told her I prefer not to have toxic mercury in my teeth, that I would pay the difference for the composite she responded with, "What difference does it make, you have a mouth full of amalgam anyway!" She is extremely unprofessional and did I say RUDE? As a child, before they knew the toxic nature of mercury, dentists filled our teeth with amalgam, but as an adult on the occasion I need a filling I have only had composite...but I owe her no explanation. I wonder if she is boorish with all of her patients, or only those who have Denti-Cal, which she willingly accepts...and then once she gets you in her chair with your mouth open, she uses the opportunity to admonish and shame. Maybe it's cultural, maybe its her personality, or maybe she is just a really unfortunate dentist, but either way, I will never ever go back. Either Her personality is to have the last word, get defensive, make excuses, or admonish when she is inept ("You must not floss to the gums!), so most certainly she will have a retort for her viewers here in the face of inexcusable behavior. Not only did Dr. Pattanayak take great care of my teeth, she also made a big difference in my elderly Mother's life. Mom's Dentist wanted to send her far away to a specialist who intended to render her unconcious for 30 minutes, a grave danger with her blood pressure issues and sleep apnea, just to pull a few broken teeth. I went to Patt dental again with a toothache. Dr. Patt took care of my gum infection right away and gave me a prescription for a few days. The pain almost went away once she was done. She took her time to explain to me the details of why I keep getting the issue with the same side again and again. I have been to dentists before but was never been told what I was doing not right. I will highly suggest to AVOID this clinic. My family had been to her 3 times before writing this review. 1. It is unethical to ask patient to skip the insurance and ask for cash to get a discount 2. Out of 3 instances, 2 instances she declined free cleaning and another instance (3rd), she was v rude to the kid who started crying 3. To my spouse, she suggested root canal and a crown costing $1800. But as per plan it was $750-800 max 3. In above case she said the insurance provided fees sheet has very low charges so she will not accept or do the treatment as per that and asked $1800 4. She refused me cleaning saying I need deep cleaning which will require to pay out of pocket Despite the insurance, I did not get any dental benefit. One thing is common in above facts. Skip this office and save yourself the problems. I show up for my appointment and they say my appointment is at 2 not 12. A little annoying but they ended up getting me in fast and it could have been a miscommunication. I was getting a cleaning and having an emergency appointment to look at a broken tooth. The Dr tells me I need a root canal treatment and medical doesn't pay for it so i can pay her 1800 cash for a discount. As someone who worked for a dentist for 3 years I can say that's very unprofessional! Then I go to the front and try to schedule another appointment for a filling. The girls in said they didn't know the schedule because the doctor would be taking time off but they weren't sure when or how long. Called another office and was able to book my RTC treatment with another doctor that accepts medical , this lady is a scammer and out for your money. Here is a recent example of how un professional the dental care is. My parents scheduled a appointment for a regular checkup. When they went for an appointment the doctor told them these exact words " Your daughter has put a yelp review stating we were unprofessional because we billed you even when we said there will be no charge , You NEED to ask your daughter to take that review out and then we can take you in immediately.. Otherwise you can't .. " And mind it this is after they already got an appointment and went for the service.. What a waste of time and money.. My mom got her cleaning and it was done in 5 min or so. Dentist spent more time taking the xray than doing the actual cleaning. She did not even try to remove the plaque/ tartar and just polished for few min and it was over. We were both stunned and left thinking we're never coming back. I recently had a change in my dental insurance due to my job and that is how I found Patt Dental. They took dentical which most dentist do not. I chipped my tooth and needed to be seen ASAP, Patt Dental was able to see me the following day. I was nervous at first going just because I was use to my other dentist but the office staff and dentist made me feel so much better. They were caring, friendly, and professional. It was my first time getting a temporary crown but the process was nearly painless. I went back yesterday to get my permanent crown and it looks and feels great! Terrible experience at this dental office back in November. I was told I had 6 cavities and giving a very unfinished and rough cleaning. I was told I needed to pay more to get all of the plaque off of my teeth which was shocking to me. I switched dentists after my terrible experience and got new X-rays... guess what? NO CAVITIES!!! This place is a fraud and just trying to collect money. This is sad for me to write. I have never given a bad review and I'm really not the type of person to complain or expose anyone. But this crossed the line. I also learned that I have gum disease that needed to be treated and this office didn't even mention it. They only care about making money. I also thought I was very odd for the dentist to do cleanings herself. She didn't have a hygienist at the office. I've never reviewed a business here on Yelp..until I meet Patt from Patt Dental Care. I hate even giving her a 1 star. I hope this review will help new patients contemplating going to see Patt and having to go through an excruciating experience like me. Now, first of all, Patt I see that you would rather comment here on Yelp to try and save your reputation online rather than actually calling your patients back to try and resolve our issues with you. Patt, I see all your comments trying to blame the patients saying it's their fault for the issues they are having with you. I have no time for someone who can't take constructive criticisms and would rather blame the patient instead of helping the situation and come to a resolution. Seems to me, you prefure to spend your time online commenting to your patients instead of making an actual phone call to them.(I must of called 20 times last week with NO return phone calls) That's fine. I'm glad there are online forums like this so the whole world can see how you operate. My first issue starts with my husband's appointment almost a year ago now. I tried to give Patt the benefit of doubt and told my husband too not complain, maybe she was really busy etc etc. After years of Denti-Cal stopping any type of dental care(after the recession hit they took away any services to people over the age of 18 unless pregnant). We finally found out we have benifits again(well, apparently for only the top six and bottom six of the front teeth,they also cover extractions.) That's fine, we are grateful for any help we can get. Unfortunately, not too many dentist in the Bay Area take Denti-Cal insurance, so when I found one that did(Yes you Patt) in Pleasanton(thinking it would hopefully be a better facility other than say Highland hospital in Oakland) I jumped at the chance and got us both and appointment. My husband had issues with this woman the first time he went in. She proceeded to numb his mouth, then He asked (and yes this was addressed in his form he filled out before the appointment began) if he needed antibiotics before his procedure due to a surgery from years earlier. She said, OH, well yes I will need a note from the surgeon or you primary doctor stating it's safe or not safe to do the work without the antibiotics. So she basically numbed him up, before taking time to ask her patient his medical history. His primary Dr said, NO he did not need antibiotics before the work was taken care of. The surgery was over 10+ years earlier. So, he had to go back to work, numbed up and had to wait for his Primary dr to give him the note, then make ANOTHER appointment with her. I wish I would've chosen to see this as a huge red flag and find someone else to help us,but being the caring person I am..choose to give her another chance. HUGE MISTAKE!!!! After weeks of tooth pain, she finally got him in again,and finally did the work. So fast forward a few months later. Now it was my time to seek help. I've had a broken molar for almost 5 months now. My health has not been the best since I did 11 months of chemotherapy. It depleted my bone mass and really took a tole on my oral health. When I first had Patt address my problem..I was not in too serious of pain and could handle it until I could afford to get a root canal on it. Unfortunately, my husband lost his job around that time, nothing to do with his performance at work, just the title he was under was no longer needed and many lost their positions that week at that company. So without his income I could not afford to pay for the root canal(again Denti-Cal) would not help with this particular tooth, I would have to pay out of pocket..which is not cheap). The pain was starting to really get to me,so I made another appointment with her. She told me, there is nothing I can do for you unless You can pay a ridiculous amount of money for her to extract the tooth, if not then I would need to see an oral surgeon. Her office staff (the third x-ray tech/receptionist I've seen working there since we started going to her) gave me a phone # to an oral surgeon in San Leandro. I called their office...THEY don't take Denti-Cal and gave me a phone # to a different oral surgeon in San Jose (I will also be giving that surgeon a review here as well..not for bad service like Patt's office..for great service and compassion. He was truly a saint from above,no questions asked just took me under his wings and helped me like a good doctor/surgeon/dentist would do for someone that needed help). After making the appointment with the new surgeon in San Jose, her staff told me she was out of the country for a month,had to wait to get the referral,she came back and still didn't do it. I had to reschedule twice till she could send a simple fax. DO NOT GO TO PATT. So much more to tell you all,but only have a few letters left for this review. If you value your time and teeth,don't go here. I'm so glad I reported her to the BBB. read more

I went here to have some fillings done a couple months ago. Would not recommend. When taking pictures of my teeth the dentist was essentially wedging a tool between my teeth and trying to pry it open(I was there btw, could of just asked me to open my mouth). Also she messed up on a numbing shot and it felt very uncomfortable. Will not be returning don't bother on sending me a reminder. If you have medical she probably will treat you like shit. read more

My husbands appt ran over which was understandable (valid reason) so I waited. My problem was with the fact that after waiting for half hour or so for my husbands run over appt. I had to continue to wait for another patient who apparently had a 3:00pm appt as well but did not show up until 3:20. So after my normal appt passed and I waited addl time I was still not seen and another patient seen that was late. As I complained (naturally) to Kim front office person and she stated she was not sure what the doctor was doing and assured me that particular patient was not having a procedure and should just be a few more minutes. Waited, Waited, Waited!!!! until I could no longer wait, (again had 3 kids with me) Made an appt for March 14th at noon and had to cancel (again I have kids sorry) which is the only thing Dr. Pratt got correct. I actually spoke to her that day and she had no idea how to reset up an appt or what was avail, on top of that she could not give me any information on my child who was seen that day with her. I expressed to her my dissatisfaction with the service I received from her and her office. Not once did she apologized and she did not know what appt was avail for me next so she stated she would have her office asst call me to set. Received a call a few hours later that she was not taking any new patients. So again poor customer service and apparently can not take any constructive criticism. Also just a side note upon finding a new dentist for our family they noted that my husband was overcharged for his procedure and was stated that the procedure was not needed. They also stated that we did not need to have work done on our daughter as the issues are with her baby teeth and it was just a money maker to have them actually worked on. I wish I never entered this place. Yes the doctor is nice but the work that was done was not good! I have never been in so much pain in my whole life.. I had one root canal done and was still in pain then was told another tooth needed a root canal. So had that done thought it would be better I couldn't stop tasting the funky taste of whatever was put inside to seal it. But I was fine dealing with it but then came all the pain I had times 100 so I went to a endodontist that said my tooth was fractured and I would need it extracted and get an implant. I was freaking out got another opinion from another endodontist that did a CBCT scan and was told the first tooth that was worked on needed to be retreated there was a missed canal. And the other tooth was filled too deep so it was hitting my nerve and causing so much pain. But that the stuff that it was filled with would eventually go away. So I had my teeth redone paid $1500 more dollars. Dr Pat refuses to compensate for any of it. This has been such a bad experience and I am out 1000's of dollars because of it! Be very careful what you choose to have done here. All I want is my money back :( read more

Dr. Pattanayak is a phony. She says she takes Denti-Cal but when you go there she says she would have to send you to a dental surgeon, unless!!!!! That's right, unless, you want to pay cash. Then she will remove the tooth. Stay away from this person. All extractions are covered by Denti-Cal unless it was one that she was unable to perform. But since she was able to perform the extraction it is covered by DentiCal. read more
