My wife had a huge Cobb Salad, mostly iceberg lettuce but with lots of protein toppings. I had two tasty (not Andy's tasty but still pretty good) slices of pizza and a can of soda. The total, including a 3% "Credit Card Surcharge," was $17.45. To me, that's not too shabby. It was also fun browsing their store. The walls are festooned with BW pictures and movie posters. They have lots of interesting stuff for sale, including a large selection of homemade baked goods. The Roman Pantry isn't quite a diner, and if you're looking for a place to eat that isn't one of those (I can't imagine why), or you happen to be at this intersection of N. Golfwood and Rt 48 for some reason, then take a minute and swing by. I know you won't regret it.

It's got to be one of the biggest cheesesteaks I've ever had. But that doesn't mean there's a lack of quality. The meat and cheese ratio were great and melted very nicely. I loved everything about it. I wish I had stayed longer in the store because it seemed like there was a lot to it that I may have missed. Everyone was very helpful and a really cool place that I can't wait to go back. Inside is real authentic.

I wanted to find the best cheesesteak possible without detouring too much from my route and without going into Center City. I mapped it out, scoured reviews, and set my heart (and my GPS) to Leo's Steak Shop. It was easy enough to navigate to from the airport and there was plenty of street parking nearby. You could definitely call and order ahead, but I didn't have a long wait since the lunch rush was likely over. They were still busy and I probably waited 15 minutes for my sandwich. I went with a large cheesesteak which was insanely large. This could easily be split between two grown men. Lucky for me, I had leftovers the next day. I also snagged a bag of chips from the giant selection and a soda for the road. There are no tables inside and it was winter so I took it to go. Even though I hadn't eaten all day, I held off until I got to my hotel about 30 minutes away where I proceeded to devour half of this overstuffed cheesy monstrosity of a sandwich in the front seat of my car (had to wait to check in). I was in shaved steak heaven for the rest of the day. Then after a night of drinking with my buddies, I woke up to the second half in the fridge and proceeded to devour round two of this steak bomb which at that point was the only thing I had eaten for the last 24 hours. Next time I fly into PHL, I know exactly where I'm going.

We got the meatballs and ricotta and a round cheese pizza with half of a side with hot cherry peppers on it and a side of vodka sauce and garlic parm sauce. The meatballs were beefy and the sauce was delicious. Sadly the pizza was more done than I like it. I think if it spent 5 min less in the oven, it would've been perfect. It was very cheesy but the crust was so overdone that I did not enjoy it. The garlic parm dipping sauce was good but I think it could've used a little more parm and some salt. The vodka sauce was PHENOMENAL. I would come back again to try some pasta in that vodka sauce it was that good. The service was perfect. We were greeted promptly, our server was so friendly and attentive. The bathroom was clean and on the way to the bathroom, every employee that I encountered similed and said hello. They also had a wonderful beer list, though it was lacking in sour beers they had more than enough IPAs on draft. I would definitely give this place another chance. This time we visited for my birthday- on a Tuesday evening, they are running a two for $60 special. You get a starter, main, and dessert. The mozzarella cheese was thoroughly melted and fused into the top layer of the chicken breasts. Seagrave's has been feeding me and the good people of Salem with more care than many of us probably deserve. I have sung in a church nearby on occasion for nearly 30 years now and whenever Seagrave's caters our lunches the world feels a little less cruel. A great sub can do that. A cheesesteak even more so. The bread has the right balance of chew and give. The meat is tender and unapologetically plentiful. A sandwich from Seagrave's is not a snack. It is a declaration. You will be full and you will be happy about it. The subs are delicious and reliable, like an old friend who always shows up. The cheesesteaks are even better. Whoever decided that much beef and that much cheese should share the same roll should be awarded a medal. For half a century or more the Seagrave family made this little white concrete box on West Broadway into one of the best reasons to stop in Salem. Now it is under new management. You may worry that something this good could slip away. Do not worry. The family is still watching and still guiding and based on my most recent meal the sandwiches are as tremendous as ever. The building itself looks like nothing much. For years there was not even a sign. You had to know where to go and if you were lucky enough to know you went. Word of mouth was more than enough advertising because food like this does its own talking. So here is the advice. Put Seagrave's into your GPS. Park outside the plain white building. Step inside. Order a sub or better yet a cheesesteak. Watch them pile it high and then take the whole glorious thing back to your house or your car or your church hall. Take a bite. Life will not be perfect but it will be slightly better. Five stars. Always has been. Always will be.
