I have been a Pat's shopper for years. Mainly because it is the only grocer within walking distance, and I do not drive, so I am pretty well stuck shopping there. I have noticed over the years I am very careful with what I purchase there. In the past and still today, there can be found out of date food still on the shelves. The other day I picked up a can diced tomato, it was 6 months out of date. Pat's is also in the habit out selling out of date foods, or foods that are close to expiration. Right now there are liquid coffee creamers, (seasonal) from as far back as October on sale. Beware of the "deals" on meats like chicken!! These are out of date and repackaged sold as a "bargain" under 5 for $25. Hot dogs are the same when you see a sale for "10 for 10", look at the dates.
It is over priced because it is the only grocer in town, and they use the excuse "Gas is expensive". A jar of Miracle Whip dressing is over $5, compared to Family Dollar @ $3.50. A can of vienna sausages at Pat's is $1.29 whereas at F.D. it's .50 cents. Eggs are a joke at almost $2 a dozen, and prices on other meats are even worse.
Sale events are a joke. A majority of the items that are "Bargains" are still more expensive than that of other places. Beware hamburger sale, especially if it packaged there. Mixed with lesser quality and soon to expire meat. Vegetables, whoever is over that department should be fired. I walked by this evening, green peppers, over a dollar each, and they were soft, and wrinkled. Lettuce sale, lettuce had brown spots and excess water in the packaging. looking at the oranges, they were dated, soft spots and the beginnings of decay.
The store overall is not really that clean. It is cluttered with too many display cases that should be removed to give shoppers ample room to manuver the carts.
Overall, Pat's Foods has not impressed me over the years. Inflated prices, questionable meats, and out of date shelf items. There needs to be either a Wal-Mart or Econo Foods, to give people a better choice of places to shop. read more
