I am writing to report a fraudulent business practice involving Cody Johnston of Surf's Pool and…read moreSpa Services. I believe that I, and potentially other clients, have been scammed regarding unnecessary pool treatments. On December 10, 2025, Surf's Pool and Spa Services began weekly maintenance on my pool. On January 7, 2026 Cody Johnston advised that our pool was unsafe due to Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels being three times the normal limit. When asked about a partial drain and refill, Cody claimed this would cause cracks in the pool and instead recommended a $1,500 treatment lasting six weeks. Based on his professional expertise, we provided a check for $1,500. Subsequent research and consultation with experienced pool companies revealed several discrepancies: - My saltwater pool's TDS level was 4,000 ppm. According to industry standards, 3,000 to 4,000+ ppm is the normal operating range for saltwater systems. - Standard treatment for high TDS is a partial drain and refill; there is no chemical "miracle product" to remove TDS. - Cody's claim that a partial drain would crack the pool contradicts standard maintenance advice. When I presented this information to Cody, he dismissed the findings and refused to issue a refund. Furthermore, Cody mentioned that a neighbor who uses his services was also told they required this same treatment, leading me to believe this is a recurring scam.

Recently, the "specialist" was caught red handed, by the home owner, damaging the chlorinator. Needless to say, Surfs Up will replace the part, but never should have happened.
