Just back from a holiday in Spain which was brill. We have a villa but as my husbands dad was…read morestaying in it the last three days we decided to book in to Laguna to get some private time. We have stayed at Hotel La laguna around three/four times before and have always had a great time. On this occasion the air con was not working which no one told us about until we complained of no sleep in our sauna room. We also couldn't call reception to ask for assistance as the phones didn't work (apparently upgrading them). The internet was also down for a few hours on or first night but got fixed so no major issue. For our air con issue we got offered a second room by the maintenance man which didn't have any working air con so we said no and then got offered another which was so much better and air con worked a treat. As I complained at having no sleep on our first night and with being pregnant it was dangerous for me to overheat the hotel gave us a refund of our first night but first checked the rest of our stay was satisfactory. I was really disappointed with my stay this time around and don't know if I would go back even though this was one of our fave hotels in Alicante but the manager (when he was in) did get an extra star for acknowledging the issues. I think the pool was also broken/off for a couple of days and possibly the spa too but as we didn't ask what the issue was I can't 100% be sure. It is a good hotel but I didn't enjoy my experience this time.

However, the room was uninviting - the furniture was crappy, the decor was boring, the elevator was one of those annoying types that you have to pass your key over the sensor several times or it might forget what floor you want. The breakfast was fine, but nothing to write home about. And they had a nice big bathtub so I had a lovely soak. The view from the 26th floor restaurant was indeed nice, so yay for that! Plus it's close to the main drag. But I personally, I will certainly spend €150+ per night much more thoughtfully next time I'm in Alicante.

This was my favorite hotel in our 5-city Spain trip because I splurged a little to get a Superior…read moreRoom with a view. It wasn't that much more money and the wrap around balcony with views of the castle, beach, and harbor made it sooo worth it. Sadly, our "king" bed was two unattached adjacent twins. Otherwise, the room was sufficiently large, clean, and modern. The elevators are perhaps the opposite: old, slow, and sometimes broken. Unfortunately the restaurant/bar on the top floor is kinda sad, which is really a missed opportunity given the views, so we opted to just enjoy our balcony instead. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the beach (there aren't really beach front hotels in Alicante, so it's one of the closest). The hotel doesn't have beach towels but you can buy one for 7-8 euro at a market or on the boardwalk. It's also right in the center of the restaurants and shops; Alicante is pretty small and very walkable. Note that parking is not on site. If you're lucky, you can swoop in out front to unload and then move about 8 blocks up to the San Cristobal garage, for which the hotel has a slight discount.
