I had three (3) estimates from different painters. I went with the middle estimate, which was…read moreRay's. The contract stipulated "Prepare deck and house and paint deck and house". Their "prepare" was nothing more than a quick pressure wash--no scrapping or sanding peeling paint or priming bare wood where the paint had peeled. The painters (different painters during the project) arrived around 10:00 AM and left around 3:00 PM. Halfway through the job, I was informed "We underestimated the amount of paint needed and need an additional $1,000.00" for paint", I found this totally unacceptable as they waited until the next to the last day to bring this up. They pointed out the "contract" stated an estimated amount of paint, not an exact quantity. I signed the contract however, an additional $1,000.00 was way out of line. Their response was the effect of "Without the additional paint we will spread the remaining paint very thin to cover the remaining house however, you will see the old paint through the new paint". Not wanting a half-done job I reluctantly paid the additional $1,000.00. When the job was completed on the third day at 3:30 PM there were numerous places where the old paint was visible, areas that were completely missed, and areas where the paint applied on the first day was peeling (it appeared they painted over wet wood and the paint never dried). I wanted to "hold back money" until the job was completed however, they wanted full payment because "the job was done and only touch-up was needed". We went back and forth on the "job was done" however, there was a "mechanics lien" clause in the contract meaning they could sue me for not paying. In summary, after a few months, they never returned to complete the "touch-up" and missed areas and paint continues to peel in multiple places, and. Their "additional $1,000.00 request for paint" put their estimate well above the highest estimate". I believe Ray's intentionally underestimated the amount of paint needed, knowing they would come back with the "We underestimated the amount of paint needed and need an additional $1,000.00 for paint" if you want the job done correctly. Professional painters should know how paint is needed for a job or be close if additional paint is needed, not $1,000.00. I will never use Ray's painting again. As time goes on, there are more and more places where paint is peeling every week and the poor quality of work is showing. Fresh paint looks nice when first applied however, when it begins to peel after only a few months something was not done correctly.

We hired Ray"s Painting to paint our two-story house. We stated to Ray we wanted to use…read moreSherwin-William paint which he stated he would pick up at the store. In the contract, it stated our house would be prepared for painting. The only thing the painters did was pressured wash our house. There was very little scrapping done. I did more than the painters as I was checking their work as Ray hired two high school students who had no experience of painting. Our house was original white, there were so many places, the white was still coming through the blue paint. We kept telling Ray, his painters need to put more paint on their paint brushes. At the end of the job, we requested extra paint of each color to have for touch ups. Ray left up Home Depot paint cans and when we asked him about the Home Depot cans. He denied he used the Home Depot paint on our house then later he stated he did. We told him we weren't happy with one section of the house where the sun hits the house. We showed him, and he agreed to fix it the next morning. The next morning came and there was No Ray and No phone call explaining why he wasn't coming. He did not return our phone calls; three in all. We left him a message that we were disappointed with him and how he ran his business. We shared that we were going to warn others about his business and not to trust him. Still he did not return our phone call. Beware folks, if you want a professional painter, don't hire Ray's Painting. You will be disappointed like us and pay a lot of money for frustration!
