We first connected with Alayna Weaver from Raleigh Mortgage Group during the preapproval process, while we were comparing rates among lenders. We eventually got a rate too good to pass up from a large commercial bank and went with them, thanking RMG for their help. The loan process from this bank ended up being a complete disaster, where problems arose last minute over things we should have been told weeks earlier. With closing coming up, and our trust in the bank fully broken after a week of fruitless back-and-forth, we decided to get our mortgage elsewhere, but it needed to be fast. I reconnected with Alayna, who gave us a sanity check by confirming the bank was being ridiculous, and snapped into action to help us. Within 36 hours, we had a fantastic rate in hand and were set up with a mortgage processor. Each time we ran into a problem, Alayna - who was readily available via text, phone, and email - as well as others at RMG (Hayley Jackson) and the processing team (Corry O'Neill and Kristina Polson) provided alternate choices or simply solved the problem. To daringly hold my 401k rollover check in your fingers daring to ask me if I still want it to be deposited! You should not give anyone financial advice as you are not competent whatsoever and to call out and the branch has no one else to assist? What? A poor excuse to call out and you do not look professional to handle large accounts and you are not investment savvy and to speak to me as to put me on a budget or allowance.....you are clueless! Mind your own manners and stop being disrespectful to account holders. As an account holder, you have lost my investment accounts and I will close the remainder of them based on the interactions this year. Next person that needs a personality makeover for customer service is Michelle. She is useless and my time is valuable, yet she spoke to me with blatant disregard and no respect. Fortunately NFCU 800# is helpful and aware of serious account services mismanagement at this local branch. I avoid whenever possible. I still have another bank so I can still manage liquidity. There are a very slim handful of helpful tellers. I do agree that staffing and coverage should be better. Whoever determines NFCU interest rates are terrible as I had to transfer investments to other banks offering greater than 5% interest when they change rates at the drop of a hat! The government has kept rates consistent only recently dropping .25%....I cannot wait to have my account make money with another firm!!!

He answered many questions and had lengthy calls to assist us in making the best decision for our family. In the end, our builder's preferred lender offered incentives that Stephen said were actually worth "real money" and not just a shell game, adding fees here and there to make the offer look more appealing. He advised us to accept their offer and lock in the rate before any chance of changes. When we expressed shock that he would be so forthcoming when it didn't benefit him, he simply said that doing right by us would bring us back to his company in the future if we ever need another loan. He was absolutely terrific. (He also caught a major mistake that a big name bank made in their initial loan estimate to us. The big-name bank admitted that Stephen was correct.)
