This is the best Indian grocer in the Pittsburgh area. Period. Hands down. Not even a contest.

Isn't that Sam's Club? 90% of the items do not have prices. I'm not waiting until I get to the register. There was a gentleman at the register who never looked up from his phone, never acknowledged me and just kept his earbuds in. I'm not going to keep going to the register to ask for prices for each item while I'm shopping. Obviously I left without buying anything.

The store is spacious, and stocked with noodles, sauces, rice, lentils, spice mixes, snacks and some frozen items. While they don't have a massive selection, they seem to have a little bit of everything you may need in a pinch. For example, they have a handful of noodles, but not every size and ingredient; they have a few rice varieties, but not every size. Same with the Indian groceries. They carry Korean chilies, canned jackfruit, coconut milk and Thai curry pastes. For those living in USC, MTL and thereabouts, this could save a trip to the strip district or one of the Indian groceries close to the city. Or give you the convenience to try that Indian recipe for which you don't have all the spices. Prices are quite reasonable and service was pleasant. A good addition to the Mall and to Mt Lebanon.

Nataliya European…read moreFood market is a lovely store, they have all categories--frozen, bakery, deli, dairy (including kefir) etc. The owner was very welcoming and offered to help interpret anything I wasn't sure about. However, I didn't have much of an issue as most of the items were quite obvious or had enough English on them to tell what they were. Sometimes you feel awkward stumbling around ethnic groceries but I didn't get that vibe here. They also have sausage that they make/smoke themselves. The owner said the cherry smoke one was the most popular and gave us a couple of samples. It is the kind of sausage you eat cold on crackers and I loved the wonderful texture/flavor. And was very inexpensive...about $3.90 for one rather large sausage. They charge by the pound. If you are doing a charcuterie board for a party or just want a nice protein rich snack option I would recommend. Prices were quite low and comparable to what you pay at the Greenfield GE. We left with a condensed milk swiss roll, some frozen Tibetan flavored dumplings and one of the sausages.

I got zefir, lokum, and a selection of chocolates and candies from glass jars. I loved the zefir and trying the different sweets. It was a great experience, and I got to try snacks that would otherwise be difficult to find locally. The lokum was so-so by itself, but it went really well with tea and served to guests. The store itself has a very cozy and homely feel and the workers were very nice and helpful! They suggested I get pastila, as it was a favorite. I liked the pastila and it was very reasonably priced. Overall, I'd suggest this store if you're in the area and want to try treats from a new region. I'd like to go back sometime to try the more savory items!

Today I stopped in for the very first time. I had heard good things about this store, and mostly…read morethe rumours were true. They had a very nice selection of products on the shelves, and this may be the biggest Indian store I've visited in the Pittsburgh area. Unfortunately, Monday is the day that fresh produce arrives, and the truck was two hours late (no fault of the store), so the produce section was mostly bare when I got there, however, I asked for assistance with some Tindora, and the gentleman told me he would go get some for me straight off the truck, which he did, so that was good fortune. Unfortunately, they were out of, some of the items on my grocery list, such as the Black Label (extra Caffeine) Thums' Up Cola, and they didn't have any Gluten-Free Rotis or Parathas, which I used to purchase at Delhi Bazaar on Banksville Road before they went out of business. The gentleman who helped me with the Tindora told me that the distributor has been having problems with the gluten-free items, and they are currently unavailable (I have also encountered this at other Indian stores in the South Hills, so it must be true). I did purchase some fresh Parathas, Rotis, Chappatis, and Theplas from the bakery in back, and they look wonderful (My wife is G-F, not me). Also in the bakery area, they have hot foods for sale, and for my lunch I purchased one Paneer Puff, and a Kathi Roll. I ate them out in my car, and was still hungry, so I came back inside and purchased one more item, a Khasta Kachori . . . all of the hot foods were delicious and fresh, and I enjoyed them all, and washed them down with a Limca soda. Cheers . . . Dhanyavaad, Namaskar, & Jai Hind!
