This is my go to for Indian grocery shopping. Even before the renovations they carried a variety of items I need from fresh produce to Indian spices etc. But after the renovation, you have even more options for fresh rotis, and Indian snacks and cakes. They have a large parking lot, which is always full as Patel Plaza has a lot of other Indian eateries and shopping. I prefer going in the evenings when it's less busy but you may have to pick a good day as they get their replenished stock every week (don't know which day - but it's the best time when all shelves are stocked and the food is super fresh). Prices are very reasonable - sometimes even better than Kroger or Publix. They have the best assortment of Indian groceries - hands down. After the renovations the place feels more airy. Staff is always willing to help. The only annoyance I have is that most of their shopping carts are broken and/or staff doesn't get them back from the cart drop off spots to the entrance at regular intervals. In spite of this, Patel Bros will still be my go to Indian grocery spot as long as I'm in ATL. read more

What in the "how did I not know this place existed?!" have I been missing?! Walking into Patel Brothers felt like stepping into a whole new grocery world. If you're familiar with Nam Dae Mun, this is similar--but with way more authentic Indian and South Asian variety. Every section of the store had something new to discover. From fresh produce I couldn't even name (seriously--I was Googling as I browsed ), to aisles full of spices, snacks, and ingredients you won't find in your average grocery store. We didn't even make it down every aisle, but what we saw was enough to guarantee we'll be back. The produce section was especially impressive--loaded with unique fruits and vegetables I didn't know even existed. Definitely a place where you'll want to do a little recipe research before you fill your cart. As for prices, I was hoping for a bit lower, but considering these are imported goods and the joys of tariffs and trade, I get it. Bottom line: A must-visit if you're into cooking, curious about global cuisine, or just want to expand your pantry in a flavorful direction. This is not the nicest Patel Brothers I've ever been to (the new location in Nashville puts it to shame), but this place is packed with stuff, and the Indian subcontinent has a lot of great food. Their produce selection was robust with plenty of things you could find in other stores, but some distinctive vegetables that are hard to find. From there, the fried snacks, jars of complex pickled vegetables, ample frozen options, and the packaged entrees all offer something different and useful. It was a busy place, but the checkout line moved and the prices were not bad for what I wanted. read more

This is my regular Indian Grocery shopping place. This is a chain store which has stores almost in every state of US. They are mostly spread all over in the east of the country and couple of stores in CA. They are very organized, clean and neatly maintained. I go there at least once a month. This grocery chain sells Indian foods, plus beauty products, spiritual items & more. I usually split my groceries between this and the local Publix. I shop at Patel Brothers, not just because I'm an Indian, but because of the competitive prices and quality. It is a great experience every time I come here, no hassles and returns / exchanges are quick and easy. The variety of choice and always fresh produce will always make me come back for more and more. Especially now that the store has been expanded and has lots of room for everyone and more stuff has been added. Great place for Indian groceries and produce. They have fresh sugarcane juice, fresh Coconut water and Indian bakery items. You generally get great deals during the Diwali festival time. Also, a great place to stop by around for various Indian cuisines in the plaza. Great stock and good choice in Indian vegetables. You have ample free parking in the plaza in front of the store. You will also find fresh Indian snacks and sweets. They serve yummy pastries and cooked dishes on one side of the store. Although this place can be quite crowded on peak times, the staff tends to be very helpful and co-operative. You can get almost anything Indian here. Right from vegetables, masalas/spices, mixtures, dry fruits, sweets, frozen food to snacks. Most of the goods are imported from India. I'd recommend this Indian grocer even to the uninitiated. You'll find veggies here you've never seen before. You'll find spices and tools for professionals along side heat-n-eat delicacies for the microwave jockey (like me). You'll find sodas and candies that you can (usually) only get in India. Plus, there's a big, bulk snack-food section to satisfy your crunchy desire for something other than a potato chip. (And some of that stuff is spicy enough to blow your head right off.) Patel Brothers is spacious, clean, and full of all kinds of things for anyone who wants to have a shot at cooking a genuine Indian meal. (Not to mention decorations, cultural & religious artifacts, and ethnic beauty products.) They have fresh naan from a local bakery, and they make egg-free cakes & delicacies for the vegetarians in your life. Prices seem reasonable, and staff is helpful. I don't know enough about Indian cuisine to use Patel brothers "correctly", but with that said, I still love going up and down the aisles pretending like i'm about to pluck several ingredients for some amazing home cooking. There's so many spices I don't know what to do with, so many curries I can't even pretend to know how they taste, and an excellent assortment of teas, including an instant chai tea that i'm now obsessed with. Snacks have their own entire aisle (you're gonna want to go down that aisle) and there's a nice section of fresh produce that you find to the rear left side of Patel Brothers. While places like the Dekalb Farmer's market is great for it's international appeal, Patel brother's has a stranglehold on the world of Indian where food, snacks and spices are concerned. Near the front of Patel brothers, there is a deli where you can buy snacks of all types, though I didn't get a chance to stop when I finished today. Note from friendly staff who were happy to answer all my questions...Patel Brothers is probably not the place to pay a visit on the weekends if you're just casually checking it out, as people come from out of state to get items here, making it a VERY busy store, since it's such a well stocked store of all things Indian. With that said, you'd be hard pressed to find another store that had as much as Patel Brothers has, if you're looking for any ingredients. I'll definitely continue to fake my confidence as I swipe more ingredients I don't know what to do with, but hopefully the more times I visit Patel brothers, I just may teach myself something great. Even though I don't cook Indian food, I would probably visit often if I lived in Decatur. Why? PRODUCE: Patel Bros have very fresh Asian and conventional fruits and vegetables at affordable prices that compete with other groceries I've visited in the ATL. I especially loved their ginger, scallions, durians, Asian pears, white and yellow turmeric, and green beans. INDIAN GOODS: Whoa. They have several different types of paneer, curry powders, milks, naan, etc... Speaking of naan, I picked up Crispy, by TWI Foods (which sounds like a band name), since I wanted to try whole wheat, stone baked naan. And I have to say, this naan taste pretty damn good with my morning sunny-side up eggs. (lol.) If you want to know more about this naan, it's made in Canada, and it even says on the packaging whether or not it has eggs in it. (Shout out to all my Vegan homies.) MEATS: To be completely honest, I am not sure if I saw any meat in this store. Maybe I missed the section, but I can't help locals out with this one. Sorry. MISC: I visited several weeks prior to Diwali, so they had tons of figurines and decorations for the holiday. I also spotted some naan pan toasters (totally cool), and rice cookers. So, it's a place to grab some unique appliances. OTHER TIDBITS: -One of my favorite things about this store is that they have an entire shelf stocked with Indian, Chinese, and Japanese teas. -There's a mini-deli (not large) at the front of the store near the cashiers. -Huge lot shared with other businesses in the strip mall ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR: Pretty bare décor, so don't expect anything fancy. Also, there is a weird smell that I think comes from the hygiene section of the store. Maybe some powerful soaps? (Ironic, amIright?) I was overwhelmed and rather entranced upon entering Patel Brothers. I had zero expectations nor did I really have any background on the store's layout and boy was I surprised as soon as we walked through the threshold. It's a bustling market with almost every section of the store covered with shoppers analyzing produce, picking up staple items, etc. We had recently discovered Mother's Mixed Pickle -- Probably the most amazing sauce you can put on just about anything, and figured we'd head to the store to pick some up. The good news? There is an entire aisle dedicated to pickled things and sauces. SCORE. We easily located the booty we were after and scored two jars. The stuff is cheap, too. $3 a jar. There is so much from Patel Brothers we've yet to try and I can't wait to head back and sample some of the foods at the front of the store. There appeared to be samosas and even popsicles! This is mecca for all your Indian food needs. I had no idea this place existed until I went to Chopaati for dinner and then noticed all these Indian people in the parking lot w/ shopping carts. We came on a Sunday night, and the place was congested w/ people everywhere. It's not huge like Super H Mart but it's a good decent size considering everything here is all Indian stuff. Produce section was fun to look at b/c they had some vegetables we'd never seen before. Also saw yogurt sold in big-a$$ containers. And paneer. And breads like naan & roti. And boxes of prepared foods similar to the ones they sell at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's - but for much cheaper here. Frozen food section was fun to visit, too. We were shocked to see that Pillsbury has a line of Indian food - they had food like naan, roti, samosas, and many others w/ names I didn't recognize. Go Pillsbury for going global! We were wondering though whether Indian people would buy Pillsbury-branded Indian food ... maybe they made it for American people like me. They also have a little cafe in the front that sells drinks - most popular drink seemed to be their sugar cane juice. Might have to try that someday. This place is the superstore for all things related to Indian, Pakistani and IndoChinese fusion cuisine!! It's larger than may other supermarkets and have brands and products that you can't find in any other American market. The produce is always fresh and often cheaper than Publix, Wal-Mart, and Target. They have deals on a lot of their Heat and Eat meals like microwaveable currys or frozen foods. Deals like Buy two get one free or 2 for $3. Certainly check this place out. read more

As a New Yorker and New Jerseyian I am super jealous of this grocery store. It is clean, organized, and the selection is amazing. They even sell fish, which I have never found at any Patel Brothers in the northeast. They also have a loose bin for salty snacks and a FRESH pickle bar! Amazing! Probably the biggest and most comprehensive market of its kind in the US! Everything and anything Indian is available here. It was initially overwhelming in terms of the many food options but after acclimating to the various aisles housing many products I began to get a sense of the store. Also the employees were very helpful In terms of where to find specific items. I purchased everything from soap and incense to packaged multiple frozen food items. Also the store is impeccably clean. I had read somewhere that the employees were not masked (during this pandemic) but ALL were masked and the women at the checkout were not only masked but gloved. During these unprecedented times, lots of shoppers were wearing masks and gloves. This was great to see! Unfortunately, the ladies running the cashier and bagging groceries chose not to wear masks. When I asked them to put on their masks for my turn, one of the ladies said "why? Corona virus has returned back to China. It's not important anymore." They were not interested in customer safety and sanitation. These are precautions mandated by government authorities in order for a business to operate during these times. As a Taiwanese American, I shop at Great Wall Chinese Supermarket for most of my groceries. I was a bit out of my element walking into Patel Brothers. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I walked into a mecca of all that is Indian. This stuff is no joke. From fresh produce to assorted snacks and pre-made products, Patel Brothers has everything you can think of. Being the noob that I am, all I walked out with was some sort of cookie snack and a box of instant chai tea packets. I'm pretty sure everyone was judging me. When I got home that night and boiled up a batch, I realized that the "chai" I have been getting from Starbucks or even from the Kroger tea aisle was not even close to the spicy cardamom chai that I was sipping on. I have a lot to learn, and I hope the Patel Brothers can teach me more. read more

It's the best place for Indian groceries and for fresh vegetables. They have many varies of delicious snacks and pickle options. If you are interested to buy ready to eat dishes there are many options available in the last aisle. The best part is that you can get Ayurvedic and organic Indian products. The prices of most of the products are very competitive as per the quality. Whenever I visit the store I always have two glasses of fresh sugarcane juices they serve. You generally get greedy when you see Indian juices are served fresh and you can't just order one. Fresh veggies is a hit or miss. Absolutely no COVID precautions people. So if you looking for safety during these times DO NOT go here. Huge bags of dried beans, bags of spice (w/ several organic options @ typically $3/spice, which is same price as other groceries, but THREE times MORE QUANTITY than others), frozen naan, etc, refridgerated desserts, produce (like $0.79/avocado, yes!), diff kinds of flours (and several organic options here too), etc. Would def come back. "What would you like to eat tonight?" says he. "Indian food." says I. He replies: "Oh okay, can we go by the Indian grocery store?" "Haha" says I, imagining the sarcasm. "Ha ha what?" says he. I never knew such a thing existed, and as the most gullible person in the world--I suppose I thought he was kidding with me... But where did we end up? The Indian Food Grocery Store. We were able to purchase all the items we needed for our meal, except for the meat! Because they don't carry fresh chicken, a stop was made at Kroger for this, as well as yogurt. Though PB carries yogurt... we just forgot. (Total white kid move). Furthermore, we made two great meals on two separate nights: chicken tikka masala, and chicken korma. If you are making Indian style cuisine for the first time, I would recommend coming here for your ingredients. I had peace of mind shopping at Patel Brothers because we weren't lost in the process of looking for over 10 ingredients... I'm sure you can find the same quality at the farmer's market, if you're a one-stop-shopper. I wouldn't count on your average grocery, though. Patel Brothers gets a few stars for ambiance, their fresh naan at a cheap price, as well as the nic-nacs hanging around the store. Similar to World Market, you can find loads of cookware specific to your Indian cooking needs. They also carry tiffin stainless steel lunch boxes. I love these! Patel Brothers is to Indians what SF Supermarket is to Chinese and what Walmart is to Americans. But before you even go in the store, and I'm talking like while you are still in your car trying to find a parking spot, you need to forget you are in America and pretend you are in India and put your game face on. Because once you turn into the parking lot, it is a whole different world. I came here again, this time with three Indians, and one of them even said 'welcome to India.'' It was hell trying to find a parking spot. And it got even worse once we finally made it inside the store. We even had to search high waters just to find a cart. This store has tons of fresh Indian veggies, and they are really cheap. For example, the coriander was 3 for 99 cents. At any other store you would pay at least 99 cents for only one. I was also able to get fresh spinach, not packaged, for $1.29 each. I usually pay $1.99 for a bag of baby spinach. So talk about a score. As you somehow maneuver your way through the aisles, you will get pushed and shoved, just like you were in India. So if you want to accomplish anything you will need to do the same. The auntys here are not afraid to ram their carts in your ass, and the man even got a death stare when he was in someones way. Her stare was so hot I even felt the burn, and I was afraid he was going to melt. This place has one whole aisle devoted to chutneys and pickles. Excuse me while I say yuck. They have all the flours and dals you would need and then some. The frozen section is out of this world. Tons of varieties of rotis, naans, subzis, samosas, meat dishes. Think anything you would find at your local Indian store and times that by 450. They even have a row of barrels of fresh namkeen of all sorts. I even found an idli steamer for cheap, and I had been looking for one for a while, but didn't want to have to buy one online. In the back you can even find cricket bats. Like I said, it's an Indian Walmart, without the clothes. In the back there's tons of paneer, yogurts, Indian sodas, and sweets. At the front of the store there's a little cafe where you can get ice cream and sweets and savories. 4 out of 5 stars because you should take a mental note of the prices of things, because some things rang up wrong, the aisles could be a little wider, and you will probably want an alcoholic beverage once you leave. read more

Holy shit, Patel Bros is the MECCA of indian culinary essentials. Coming from the West Coast (represent!), I'd never seen so many exotic South Asian goods cramped up into one huge grocery. We got the Kukje, the 99 Ranch, and the Pacific Supermarkets back in the bay, but never any massive Indian equivalent of this sort. They have fresh sugar cane juice (hold the lemon, ginger, and spices, please!), mango lassi, falooda, kulfi, and a variety of freshly baked goods in the front... Frozen bittermelon, jackfruit, mangosteen, naans, parathas, samosa, rasgulla malai, ready made saag paneer, curries, jaggery, cookies, chakali, munchies, indian herbal supplements, henna, cannabis incense (WTF), and even balachaung! I love balachaung so much that my heart literally skipped a beat when I saw one box of it sitting in a freezer. I snatched it before anyone else could and pranced out of Patel Bros with one hell of a smile. Success. read more

Head to Cherian's instead. First, Cherian's is cleaner and doesn't have that...smell. The people working at Cherian's are also nicer. The folks at Patel Brothers could care less. Cherian's is generally less pricey. You won't find expired frozen or canned items at Cherian's, and their lentils and spices are more cleanly packed and of a higher quality. But I'm glad Patel Brothers is around so Cherian's and the other places around have some competition and we have options. read more

Excellent option for Indian groceries, goods, bath/beauty and miscellaneous items. The store was packed with families doing their grocery shopping. I personally visited to purchase some Ayurvedic hair powders that work wonders on my hair. If that's what you are shopping for, they had most if not all of the Indian hair/skin powders. I purchased the Kalpi Tone, Brahmi and Bhringraj powders that really help to strengthen my hair. Highly recommend! read more
