I cannot Comment on anything but the swim program and that was very disappointing! Did not feel my son learned anything besides hanging on the wall. Very disorganized spend more time on the wall then learning skills. Wear a bubble which gives him a false hope when off the wall. We went on a Sunday so maybe other days are different but I would not recommend it. read more

I have been bringing my granddaughter to the YMCA in Patchogue for the last month and the pool is great. Only complaint is not enough early times for family swim. 6pm is not a good time for Toddlers. Would love more 11-3 time slots during weekdays. But my biggest complaint is the Adventure Zone. It's filthy. The floor has not been swept in the entire 4 weeks I've been coming. I complained to front fest once. I can't understand in this time of Covid concern and all the children from the daycare using it daily why there would not be a nightly routine of wiping surfaces and sweeping the floor. I brought my own Clorox wipes and took my shoes off and climbed through the area wiping. Unacceptable! read more

Very clean and modern facility... can get crowded at certain hours and limited time slots but overall good gym

Last week the internet and the phone number had different hours, but it seemed it closed Sunday at 1 pm but at the desk said 4 pm. Next week was supposed to be open to 6 pm on Saturday bet closed a lot earlier. So, you always have 3 times for the Y hours being internet, the phone number and the time notice at the check in counter. Be nice if someone would coordinate the 3 time sources and the correct answer was at all 3-time sources. My fuel costs for going there and finding it shut are huge! All else is fine at the Patchogue Y! read more

Great private children swimming lessons! My son took a program with his old school for disabled children to learn to swim. We loved it so much! So we signed him up for private lessons. He been going for years now. Not only is he learning to swim but it helps with is strength and stamina which he lacks. His swim instructor is amazing and understands his needs. The staff at the Y is sweet and informative. Always helpful. The building is new and is kept clean. Over all great family environment. They offer programs all the time for free and fun events. read more

This establishment needs to go back to basics on how to run a business Hire people who 1. Have excellent customer service Bright friendly welcoming personalities 2. Know how to do their job want to work customer service positions 3. Proper management to Handle customers with respect and correct the discrepancy your establishment makes when informed by the member with a smile and be concerned for your mistakes ... My experience here is ... one "disappointment" after another .... I have not had a pleasant experience in my time here ... The management is horrible and made ZERO effort to be humble and make" the member is always right "experience happen when I brought their billing errors to their knowledge ... I had to cancel after their mistakes and lies and multiple times being told different stories as how to how. my membership guidelines worked by multiple people ... nobody knows their membership pkgs .. The front desk is unprofessional and do nothing behind the desk but sit there and be rude and unfriendly ! They like to play games on who they pick and choose to be nice to. As I was treated poorly in many occasions I stood and witnessed them be fake nice to others walking in as a slap in my face .. I pay to be here like the next guy if I'm being treated poorly your establishment needs to be aware of the bad staff ... If you want a friendly establishment to join keep looking .. I attended many times this place and had other moms agree the staff is less than up to par for standards on their skill at the desk ... and other areas of service they offer . What they fail across the board to realize is how crucial their roles are as front desk personnel .. they are the first people you see at the door they are the ones who set the tone of the atmosphere for your experience in your time there and represent the company as a whole as they wear those staff shirts .. so please be aware of what your PAYING for . Not expecting this type of the terrible treatment that goes with this so called community center !!! Driving people away not welcoming them in SHAME ON YOU YMCA !! Total disappointment .. Really frustrated, and dissatisfied with the customer experience. I signed for the program last year requested cancelation - staff didn't provided me with a cancelation letter. Moving forward I come to sign for the summer and I had to pay $160. After several attempts finally Membership Director Tim Steiskal said me back on Tuesday June 11th saying he will follow up- never did. Extremely unprofessional to way to handle and retain members. The issue is not only the money is the poor care of the Membership Director who should be a leader for the fantastic organization. read more

I'm an AWAY member (meaning i have a membership from YMCA elsewhere.) I was here on vacation, and this particular YMCA has to document EVERYTHING, which is good and bad in way; good that they're trying to keep track, bad that i wasted 30min. trying to sort things out and can't even make it to a group ex class i originally planned on doing. No big deal, i'll suck it up. Well, i had a young teen with me and they were extremely strict on how he cannot go into the fitness room. I've been to other YMCAs and as long as an adult is with them (he went through teen orientation) during DAY TIME hours, the kids can freely use the treadmill or elliptical. We got yelled at for being in the fitness room, so we went into the gym. The gym is tiny and there are barely any balls available because daycamp took all of them and left us with 2 deflated balls. At this point, i was so discouraged, i didn't want to be there. Everyone of the staff were giving me nasty looks and i feel like i am doing something wrong or i'll get yelled at if i stay in one spot for too long. I did a 30min. workout with a YMCA staff gawking at me like i'm doing something wrong in the freakin' gym. I left the gym. All in all, an awful nasty experience made by the staff they hire. I've been to YMCAs in CA, PA, MA, CT, RI and even NYC and everyone is friendly, except for this one. I would avoid this one and pay for a day pass at NYSC or something. read more

I love this YMCA!! We go there to swim the pool is clean and life guards are always alert and friendly to everyone My kids love the confort of having a family fit time, and a safe locker room. I tried the Y guest pass for a week and we are staying :) highly recommend!!!! read more

I've been a member of this Y for about 3 years now. It definitely has its pros and cons. Starting with the pro's, it is a nice building, and it has a good sized pool, hard to get in many gyms. Of course they have a lot of kids swim programs, but the hours for open adult swim are good for before/after work. They offer a good amount of classes, most of which are free, with your membership. Some, like TRX, you have to pay for. They have a small indoor track thats ok if you want to walk on a treadmill or do some short sprints. The track has some space on the side to do some body weight strenthening exercises. The locker rooms are a nice size, generally clean, and have several clean showers. I cannot comment on the kids/family programs. They seem popular and plentiful. As for the cons: The gym looks big, huge even, from the outside. The actual "gym", meaning the workout part of it, is actually quite small. There is not a lot of treadmills (not an exact count, but probably around 12-15). Theres no sign up for the treadmills, but there is for the ellipticals as there are even less than the treadmills. The treadmills are all I really use cardio wise. They are ok with a large touchscreen and loaded with some programs that allow you to walk/hike/climb virtually in different areas. Not the biggest fan of the touch screen, but its ok. Because the gym itself is so small, it gets incredibly crowded during peak hours. Its hard to find open cardio machines, and it generally feels crowded and "claustrophoby". The weight area does not have much space either and also gets annoyingly crowded during peak hrs. The weight area itself is only decent. They have all the basics, good free weight selection, squat rack, several barbell/bench presses, cable machine, and then some machines (basic selection, but missing some common machines found in other gyms, like lying hamstring curls). Small, awkwardly placed mat space for abs. Right in front of the cardio machines so you feel like all eyes are on you. A couple stability balls, about 2 bosus, several medicine balls. And stretchimg equipment. Class timings are ok. I've only taken spin so far. The spin room is nice, plenty of windows, light, nice view. However, the sound system is bad. The instructors keep the music too low, and even with a microphone I can't hear them. I've taken one instructor about a year ago on sunday am's who had great energy. Other than her, I've done Monday evening spin. Instructor was nice, but lacked energy, and did not cue us in well or let us know how long we were doing a segment (e.g. saying this will be a four minute hill, etc. Hey, I like to know how heavy to load my wheel). Music is just ok, didn't flow great and some were more like cool down songs. Class itself wasn't that crowded, and instructor was not too challenging or diversified, doing the same move (like jumps) for the whole song. I'm interested in trying yoga, seems popular. All in all, gym is worth it if you need a pool for ypur training. Otherwise I would reccomend another of the gyms within a 2 mile radius. read more

This review is directed solely at the weight room. I cannot speak to their other activities as I have not experienced them first hand. The weight room is extremely limited in space therefore the variety of equipment and free weights made available are small. Throw 8 adults in there at one time to lift weights and throw any plan or routine you may have had out the window. The cardio equipment is equally lacking in qty requiring you to sign in for the machine to be used. Toss in a staff that rarely greets you with a smile and more resemble the walking dead and you have the worst gym experience I have encountered in the 20yrs I have been lifting weights. Again, the place is always full so they must be doing something right, but its clearly not with the gym. Save yourself the frustration and walk your fat ass over to Mr. Ds. read more

Staff are decent overall, but the place is absolutely filthy. Moldy showers, pool has all sorts of questionable materials floating in it. I also use the fitness area extensively and I do not think it has ever been cleaned with anything "wet." It barely even receives a vacuuming. Instead the members spray some "natural cleaner" onto filthy washcloths and wipe the machines after use. The machines also receive next to zero maintenance. When the machines are repaired, it takes weeks. I use many other Y facilities in NY and in other states. This is by far the worst maintained. The two stars in exceedingly generous. The infuriating part is that proper cleaning is just so easy to implement. For the relatively high membership fee, the members deserve far better from this facility and management. read more

YMCA Patchogue wanted to charge me $20 fee for a declined credit card. Through no fault of my own, my credit card company shut down my card due to suspicion of fraudulent activity. They issued me a new card but in the interim my recurring member fee came due and my card was declined. When I gave them my new card, they assigned a $20 fee. I read my contract and it stated a fee will be charge for a retuned check or insufficient funds. It specifically stated declined credit cards must be taken up with the YMCA. It doesn't state there is a fee attached. The YMCA does not take a financial loss for a declined card. I find this appalling that they try to get away with this. And the locker room is always freezing because it is attached to the gym. They have to keep it cool for the people that work out. But if you use the pool, walking into the locker room is like getting air with a blast of Artic air read more

I love love this gym but they allow employees to be rude to gym members. I had a porter reprimand me because I wanted to use the bathroom when she was cleaning it and to top it off sent me downstairs. I had a situation with a young lady at the front desk not once but twice regarding me asking for help. I pay alot of money to stay healthy, not to be disrespected. These issues should be addressed NOT IGNORED even after I expressed my concerns and issues. read more

I had originally went to this YMCA because I was told by a friend that they assist families in need with preschool. When I explained to the director that I was a single mom and struggling but I needed my son to be in school so I can work, she was extremely nice and registered him right away. Midway through September after school had already begun I received an email saying my son was not allowed back at school due to lack of payment. The scholarship they gave me took $200 off the bill monthly leaving me with a bill of $850. I explained that the director told me it was ok to register him even though I said I couldn't afford it and that I wasn't asking for anything for free, I just needed more time because I was trying to get the money from my sons father in court (which is a process). They continued to kick my 4 year old son out of school 2 more times. They also charged me an extra $200 for the month for being 15 minutes late. I used to love coming here but overtime, I began to feel alienated so I don't have a membership anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love the facility but some of the staff is extremely rude, especially the young, male manager who runs the sales and does tours with new clients. Went here today for the 1st time. My sister printed a weeks free trial for her 3 kids. Kids I babysit have memberships. Like I said, we both have never been. No one directed us at all. Felt like we were a bother. I asked what was i suppose to do to check them in. Barely pointed to where i was to check in. Lady at the front desk gave my sister in law a hard time. We had 6 kids and she got nasty saying, i don't know who you're trying to use these passes for but didn't ask her once. Just a horrible experience for our 1st time. We ended up leaving cuz lady was rolling her eyes and acting very impatient with us but we were clueless what to do. We had 6 very disappointed kids who were looking forward to using the facilities. I had a great experience here. This is the 2nd session of swim classes I signed up for, for my 3.5 yr old daughter. They do a great job with teaching them. The instructors pay attention to the kids and the facility is clean. They have a huge play area which is just a 4 yr olds dream come true. This is a great place. I really enjoy my time at the YMCA. I've had subpar service from the front desk which is the only downside. It comes down to attitude and they don't seem excited to help or be there. That said, the pool staff and gym staff have been very kind. I just don't feel there is a gym that can compare with all the classes, pool, track and gym that the ymca offers. My sister has had a full membership since December of last year, and every once in a while I bring my son to play with her boys on the play structure. We have been coming sporadically for months, and tonight there was a new lady at the desk, Bernadette. Well, she is absolutely the nastiest mannered lady I have encountered here. She basically verbally attacked my sister and myself when we came in. When I pointed out that full members get free guest passes as per the web site, she nastily said that they get 2 free consecutive week passes. I apologized and said we were not aware that we had to pay $5 as a guest each time we come (we only ever use the structure). That aside, when we came in there was another employee telling the parents that their children had to keep it down or she would shut the structure down. They are kids, running around and playing, they make noise...maybe they shouldn't have put the structure right next to the front desk. After tonight's experience, I will never recommend any of my friends to get a membership here, and I will not be coming back. The employees tonight were plain nasty. read more

My husband and I just got a membership to this Y at the beginning of the month. We were helped out immediately by the employees at the front desk. Our son got to play on the indoor jungle gym next to the front desk while they took my picture and my husband's. The employee who took our pictures (I wish I could remember his name) even got our son to smile for his picture. We were told where the Child Watch room was (second floor), where the basketball court was (second floor next to the Child Watch room), where the gym was (just past the desk on the left), where the heated indoor pool was (straight back, to the left) and where the track was (third floor). They explained that we had classes we could attend for free, and that there were also classes we could register and would have to pay a fee for. The Child Watch room was a little cluttered, with tons of toys in bins, play kitchens, a wooden train set, puzzles, etc. Just a bunch of toys. The room smelled like cleanser, and the employees working in there promised to call me over the intercom if my son needed a diaper change, was crying, or asked for food. My son immediately ran off to play withe trains. They had a sign in sheet we had to fill out and we left his card there. The gym isn't huge, but it hasn't really been full since we joined and we try to go every day. It's got tons of cardio equipment, and then it also has different equipment for your legs, arms, back, shoulders, and core. They supply you with small towels and cleanser so you can wipe off the machine after you're done with it. The locker rooms for the women (the only one I've been in) was clean. Everything was locked up in lockers and the floor wasn't messy. The toilets weren't dirty, and there seems to be a lady cleaning them regularly. read more

This is my gym that I go to about 3-4 times a week. The people who work there are very kind and helpful. It really is a big place and even has child care. There is a big gymnasium which is good for playing basketball. The track on the third floor is a decent size, kinda small and I like how it looks down to the gymnasium and has many large windows to look out of. There is a large heated pool and a rockclimbing wall. The locker rooms and everything in general is kept clean. I mainly use the gym, it is small for such a large place. There isn't enough cardio machines, if it's busy, all of them will be in use. There's one of each machine for various things (chest press, leg press, abdominal, rowing, etc.). Sometimes I'm waiting for a machine for a while. The area where the free weights are is very small. I wish for such a big place they would expand the gym area. read more

This is a great place for seniors and others who want a place where they do not have to feel that they are competing with professional athletes. Everyone is welcome and there is a true community feel (like the old YMCA's). After a serious hospitalization, I needed a place as an extension to my physical therapy. The Y had the same machines and more which allowed me to continue to improve my strength and flexibility. In addition, to the Silver Sneakers classes, there are a number of other classes which cater to seniors or those who may not currently be in the best shape for one reason or another. I have tried a number of them, and some were for me and some were not. However, I was welcomed into each one and encouraged just to do what I could. This welcoming and accommodating attitude has encouraged me to continue to try things I would not have otherwise tried to do. If you are a senior, look for David's classes. Besides being a true instructor who actually instructs (and not just yells and says "follow me"). He uses OUR music for his soundtracks. read more
