I had to have an expansive filling removed and replaced and felt no pain. I keep repeating it because it amazes me so much to not feel pain at the dentist. Dr. Castro was also great about talking through everything that would be done and asking permission about doing things. I had been with my previous dentist for over 15 years, and I believe having a good relationship with your dentist is important. You may only see them twice a year or during an emergency, but you want someone who knows you and genuinely cares. I tried a couple of dentists but never felt comfortable. Then I came across an ad featuring Dr. Jeff Miyazawa and decided to give his practice a try. He is in Kaneohe and I live in Ewa, so it is definitely a drive--but he is absolutely worth it. From the beginning, his staff made me feel welcome and comfortable, especially Christine. She is incredibly friendly, warm, and helpful. She listened to my concerns and carefully explained all of my options without making me feel pressured or judged. Dr. Miyazawa was also very personable and seemed genuinely interested in helping me. For years, I had a small chip in one of my front teeth. It may have seemed minor, but it was noticeable to me in pictures and affected how I felt about my smile. Another dentist had previously repaired it, but the repair did not last very long. Yesterday, Dr. Miyazawa repaired my two front teeth, and I could immediately see the difference in the level of care. He was extremely meticulous. He did not simply cover the chip and send me on my way. He made sure my smile looked balanced, also worked on my bottom teeth, and paid close attention to every detail. This was definitely not a rushed ten-minute job. I am so grateful to Dr. Miyazawa and his staff. I feel more confident, and I finally love my smile again. It feels like he gave me back the smile I used to have. I highly recommend him--especially if you are looking for a dentist who is skilled, caring, personable, and truly listens. I always cringe when given shots in the front area of gums but Dr. Kim painlessly numbed the gums. My teeth turned out flawless--no more spots and the fillings matched my teeth perfectly color wise and the gap was filled to look like it should be. However, I never see the same person in sequence for teeth cleaning and when the older doctors come in afterwards, it's really cursory - no jaw exam no tongue exam, one didn't even touch my teeth or look in my mouth. Then they applied resin by almost spraying it on. There was resin on my gums and a thick layer on my teeth with globs between my teeth. They most definitely did not paint it on. It was so gross. I water picked it off after an hour. I think I'm not going back there. The front desk staff is very nice and it is a pleasant office. I know a lot of people in Kailua really like them and they are good community citizens, but this is the third Cleaning visit. I've been disappointed, today was the worst. Maybe it's just my bad timing.

Her friend's son was organizing a Blood Drive in conjunction with the annual Blood Drive that a dentist's office in Kailua sponsors every 4th of July weekend. Hmmm... She knows that I am a regular blood donor. I was scheduled to donate in June, and I juggled my schedule around so that I could support two worthwhile projects at the same time! This event was well organized with live music; free shared parking in the lot next to Jack In The Box on Oneawa Street; and goodie bags for donors! It made me want to participate every year! If you're able to donate blood, please consider signing up for a convenient bloodmobile near you - or at the Dillingham or Young Street locations of the Blood Bank of Hawaii. Thanks to Dr. K.B. Chun and Sons for this fun and useful annual community event! I'm looking forward to participating again next year!

After seeing the dentist I've been going for quite a while who told me I needed a crown for a molar…read morethat a portion cracked off the tooth basically still had the roots intact and the chipped part only affected part of the top of the Molar, finding out about the very expensive price for it I decided to try Dr. Carrico to get an second opinion, it was a very good experience as he is personable and told me the different options I had he told me that it could be repaired with out a crown and that I wouldn't have to grind down the tooth essentially destroying most of the original tooth to put a crown. Although I'm no dentist I had worked in a Dental Lab for a number of years and I much rather keep most of my teeth than having to grind it down for a crown. The experience I had was much more modern than my old dentist and I was very impressed with the results even the color matching was better than the crown I previously got from my old dentist which seemed way off. Having this repair for a few months now I am very happy with it and much happier than with the previous crown I got from my Old Dentist. As a Yelper for a number of years, I did read some of the other reviews and seems all the bad ones are quite suspect with very few reviews and those reviews that those people did do are all bad for almost all the businesses they've been to, seems to me I think they just seem to be really unhappy people in life..or fake. Dr. Uchida should be put in jail…read more He took my money, did a bad job, and then blamed it all on me. He did the All-on-4 procedure for my upper and lower jaw. Charged me $54,000.00 which I paid in two payments upfront. Told me everything would be fine and that he's an "Expert." He's no expert and not even an implant specialist. He is a General Dentist and a crook! After the procedure was done my bite was off. I went back for adjustments but every time I went in he would blame me for his junk work. The teeth were so off that it cause one of the implants to fail and again he blamed it on me. He's the one that's supposed to make my bite good, that's why I did the upper and lower together. He even made me do Botox to try and solve his problem. Less than a year later, my new teeth on the upper and lower broke. I think the implants and materials he used are cheap and couldn't hold up and that he never fixed the bite properly. He again blamed it on me and refused to even fix it. Since I had no money left, I was of no use to him. He's only concerned with money and driving around in his fancy car. The only reason I didn't sue him is because I don't want to continue this nightmare. I'm pau. Yea he might get away with this on me but this is Hawaii and word will get out that he is a crook and a no good dentist. He seems to have a personality disorder and will yell at his patients and staff. The worst part is he hurts his patients when performing work. How is it that I am having work done on the left side of my mouth and when I awake from the procedure my ENTIRE mouth is cut up and my tongue had lacerations on the right side. He prescribes sedation pills so you are sleeping during the procedure and completely unaware of what is happening. It was only when the anesthesia wore off after I left his office did I realize how bad I was hurt. I feel like he did it on purpose because he was not happy that I returned to his office to fix the bad work he did previously. He will overcharge you and recommend having work done that is not even necessary just to make more money. I know this because I am now at another dentist who took Xrays of my mouth and said that I don't need to have the additional work done that Dr. Uchida said I did. Not to mention, he uses cheap materials so your teeth, implants, bonding etc.. will keep breaking and you will have to keep going back in, and he will charge everytime even though it's his fault. I think that's the plan so he continues making money off of his patients. Please stay away from this place this dentist is unethical and will seriously hurt someone one day.

After attempting to find a dentist that could help, I went into Michael Sakuda's office, and he took me in without hesitation. Both he and his staff were commendable. I decided then that when my regular dentist retires (which turns out at the end of this year (2023)), I will transfer my care to Dr. Sakuda. I've already recommended him to a friend, and I hope he remembers me!
