It reminds me of an old Russian tea House past its prime but still elegant in it's once renowned Glory. I mean, this place is quite fancy in an understated way as many italian things seem to be. It is a tea shop, although they sell the full range of Italian pastries coffees chocolate and tea; everything that I have had here, literally, has been delicious. Those of you who read my reviews know that if I don't like something, y'all will know it and I'll try to say why but I can't really find anything about this place that I do not like. The staff, of course do not speak English but don't expect them to as you are in italy. They are friendly though and will help you in any way that they can with what you need from their place; no making you feel foolish here. Would I come here again? We've been here like three times already in the past 7 days so, yes.

During our stop, the staff seemed comprised of older men. While the staff out front seemed friendly, smiling as we passed in and out, our waiter was not at all helpful. We do speak a good amount of Italian, which turned out to be lucky as this gentleman gave no indication that he spoke English. However, he also did not try to speak much Italian. Just basically stopping by the table and waited for our order. Perhaps he assumed we would not understand him? He did however ask in Italian if I wanted my mandarin liquor warm or cold. After a long wait, he placed our drinks on the table without a word and walked away. We didn't see him again. This is the first Bicerin we tried and we were not at all wowed by it. We left with a sense of 'ok, we tried it but meh, we won't do that again'. (I did however try it again and had a much better experience elsewhere.) The value of our visit, based on quality of service and goods, would not warrant another visit to this location.

It was a great experience and felt like stepping back in time. The only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is that I think they could work a little on the upkeep and overall feel of the cafe that while it does feel historical, it also feels a little "tired".

This place has been here since 1867 and has grand interiors like many of the old cafes around Europe do. Reminded me so much of some of the ones in Venice, Vienna, Brussels and Lisbon. I had a Bicerin which is a small glass with thick hot melted chocolate, an expresso shot, cream and meringue. Once it's all mixed together this is a match made in heaven.
