Amazing selection of fresh made italian pastries. The sfogliatelle are so crispy on the outside and absolutely delicious. The cannolis are so creamy and delicious I eat them like tic tacs the cannoli shell is so crunchy and the cannoli cream so smooth and tasty. Ever since we moved to Howard Beach I'd come to Pasticceria La Torre to get pastries for my family. I want to say it was about four years ago when we first tried their cannoli dip & that was it. A wrap for at least the holidays. Lol. Last two years I'd get two, one for my side & one for my wife's side. Our family might not let us in if we don't bring the dip. So I HIGHY recommend if you are a cannoli fan. I'll most likely be back for Christmas to grab two. I've also randomly gone in for coffee & a cookie or something like that. Two stars because the girl at the counter really tried to help, the price was fair, & the cake did taste good... however ..... I placed this order for my daughter's baptism. The theme was gold and white and I asked for gold sparkles. My cake came with a gold cross and Pink on it. When I first saw my cake it had CHUNKS of GOLD FOIL.. not sure what that was about but it looked like my toddler did it‍.. when I was where was the gold glitter (that was on my order sheet) they said they didn't have gold glitter. I was confused as to why this wasn't mentioned to me when I ordered. The girl said she can remove the foil.. when they did the cake came out with more pink and extra frosting she then said you really want glitter? And then brought the cake out as appeared in the picture which looks like someone spilled tumeric all over my cake. What a disappointment! I could no longer now share my cake on the dessert table. It looks rushed and I asked for gold frosting on top not yellow. When it came to trying the cake, it was terrible. It tasted like plain yellow cake, and not even good yellow cake. It was very dry, and they put a mountain of frosting (which tasted like store bought vanilla icing) in between the layers. From what I thought, buttercream should be a little softer that this frosting that they put. I'm highly disappointed with this cake. $40 for frosting with a side of cake is ridiculous. This place is awesome! I'm a pastry snob and don't really know what good pastry should taste like since I only ever get the butter flat cookies with sprinkles, chocolate chips and other varieties. I took the tower back and showed the lady behind the counter who blamed us for the way we handled the package saying we grabbed it from the sides and broke the cookies. First let's start that this is the second time John has disappointed me. The first time the same thing happened as well as him making a 7 year old BOY cry because he put flowers on his fake when I did not order flowers for the cake. This cake in the photos was ordered for my birthday and it was a disaster. The hand writing was awful and the cake was super dry and full of frosting with hardly any cake as shown in the photos. When contacted by John he was the most unprofessional and unpleasant person I've encountered. He totally disregarded my complaints and did not care to apologize passing the blame on me and stating that he even put extra frosting and that he can do what he likes with the cakes he makes since I did not put on the ticket that I did not want certain things done. He mentioned in 39 years he's never had a complain but reviews say other wise. His attitude was not of someone who owes a business not of someone who cared that their customer was not pleased. Friendly service and delicious classic pastries. My favorite item was their Napoleon cake, the super sweet hard frosting dyed orange for Halloween with rich creme between delicate layers. Their rainbow cookies are super heavy on the almond flavor which I love. Their apple ring is also a good choice, similar to an apple strudel, it has a sweet, gooey apple pie like filling with sugar crystals sprinkled on top and is great heated up. It is a narrow, linear bakery that has traditional Italian cookies, cakes and coffee to stay or go. They have two small tables if you'd like to sit and have a fattening snack. We entered and weren't greeted so much as acknowledged. No prices are posted anywhere. How do I know we're being charged appropriately and correctly if nothing is posted? Cookies are $10/lb and tasty. Coffee is a $1.75 for a large. We had some time to kill and could have stayed and possibly bought more and stayed, the customer service workers were kind of brusque and unwelcoming. The cookies weren't half bad. Wow! Idk how this bakery is still in business. Went to a friends home for the holiday nearby and apparently I bought a bunch of stale pastries. I came to see a friend and was mortified at the same time while people were making rude comments. I traveled from a different state and one would think the local bakery, a small mom and pop would have the most authentic homemade stuff. We had placed an order for a cake for my son's 9th birthday party with a different local bakery.Imagine our dismay when we arrived at bakery on Sunday the 23rd to pick up the cake and cookies only to find out *they didn't even make the cake*. We remember La Torre and raced over to see if they could rescue my son's birthday. Thanks to Giovanni the day was saved! His staff called him to ask if he could do anything to help and he came back to the store. He was gracious and helpful and asked my son what he could put on the cake for him. We left and in less than an hour the store called to let us know the cake was ready. My son is a Minecraft fanatic and Giovanni got the Creeper and Ender Man perfect on the cake. There is one thing that matters to me most and that is tradition, I have been having a particular cake since I was a little boy that my grandfather would get me every year for my birthday. I grew up calling it something different but it's know. As the traditional napolitano cake, and there is no place that comes closer to the way my the bakery in Canarsi used to make it more than la Torre. I come here every year and now twice a year for this cake I have tried from other places but none match the quality and taste like this bakery does. Not like it used to be. Ten years ago I would given 5+ now 1-. Tiramisu is not the real thing, not made with mascarpone or egg, it's all whip cream and barley any espresso. If that is what they want to sell change the name cause it's NOT tiramisu and lying to the customer is NOT nice. Even the cream in the pastries are off tasting.
