It's not as good as I remember, but definitely still sells fresh tasty baked goods. The staff was efficient and although it's not aesthetically instagrammable inside, it's your typical old-school Italian bakery... nothing wrong with that! read more

Four stars because I was only there once. The sfogatelle was amazing. it was light and very crunchy with the perfect amount of filling. I went back and bought a dozen to bring home. (P.s. reheat in a toaster oven next day if any are left): The semolina loaf and the assorted Italian cookies were very good. Next time I'm out that way I'm dying to try the cannolis, which I read in the reviews were also very good. The ladies were very nice, place was well kept and clean. Old school Italian bakery. Hope they don't change. read more

#OMG!!!!! If you ever find yourself at JFK and have a layover or you're just jonesing for a cannoli, you got to jump in a cab and get here! The pignoli cookies and Sfogliatelle are the best. Any thing you can think of.... Butter cookies anything. Go here! Once you eat bread or Italian cookies from this place you will hate the people that get to live near here. The service is great. The ambiance is all New York should be. Nice people that don't waste your time. Get in and get out! Enjoy! read more

Amazing selection of fresh made italian pastries. The sfogliatelle are so crispy on the outside and absolutely delicious. The cannolis are so creamy and delicious I eat them like tic tacs the cannoli shell is so crunchy and the cannoli cream so smooth and tasty. The bakery gets busy but the kind employees keep the line moving quick and the service is second to none. Definitely worth the visit . Ok gotta get back to eating the deliciousness read more

Pasticceria La Torre - Italian pastries so delicious - Bakeries Near Me - Howard Beach, New York

Ever since we moved to Howard Beach I'd come to Pasticceria La Torre to get pastries for my family. I want to say it was about four years ago when we first tried their cannoli dip & that was it. A wrap for at least the holidays. Lol. Last two years I'd get two, one for my side & one for my wife's side. Our family might not let us in if we don't bring the dip. So I HIGHY recommend if you are a cannoli fan. I'll most likely be back for Christmas to grab two. I've also randomly gone in for coffee & a cookie or something like that. I've never had a bad experience here. Around the holidays they can get busy, but the wait is never too long and not worth it. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The ambiance is what you'd expect for an old school bakery with holiday decor. Two thumbs all the way up! read more

I really wanted to like this neighborhood bakery, but my last two visits were disappointing. The pastries I purchased were very hard in the center and didn't taste fresh. There was a large display of items available, which made it seem like many of the pastries had been sitting out for a while. I mentioned the issue, but unfortunately the owner didn't acknowledge my concern. It's disappointing because I always hope to support local businesses, but freshness and customer service are important. Don't spend your money here! read more

The quality of this bakery has deteriorated since my family and I have been long standing customers. Tried to speak to the owner about an old tasting pie and that we couldn't cut through the crust because it was too hard and he has sub-par customer service. I will never go to this bakery again. read more

This place is awesome! I'm a pastry snob and don't really know what good pastry should taste like since I only ever get the butter flat cookies with sprinkles, chocolate chips and other varieties. If like me you love cookies then don't hesitate to pick some up here because the butter cookies the baker makes literally melts in your mouth it's so soft and made to perfection. read more

Two stars because the girl at the counter really tried to help, the price was fair, & the cake did taste good... however ..... I placed this order for my daughter's baptism. The theme was gold and white and I asked for gold sparkles. My cake came with a gold cross and Pink on it. When I first saw my cake it had CHUNKS of GOLD FOIL.. not sure what that was about but it looked like my toddler did it‍.. when I was where was the gold glitter (that was on my order sheet) they said they didn't have gold glitter. I was confused as to why this wasn't mentioned to me when I ordered. The girl said she can remove the foil.. when they did the cake came out with more pink and extra frosting she then said you really want glitter? And then brought the cake out as appeared in the picture which looks like someone spilled tumeric all over my cake. What a disappointment! I could no longer now share my cake on the dessert table. She did mention if I was upset to contact the manager the next day, however this did not fix my problem for the day. She was kind... the baker tried but my order was very messed up. Very very disappointed as cakes are a great piece of decor for a party read more

I placed an order for a 9 inch red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream for my girlfriend's birthday and this is what I received. The cake looked how I wanted it aside from the writing. It looks rushed and I asked for gold frosting on top not yellow. When it came to trying the cake, it was terrible. It tasted like plain yellow cake, and not even good yellow cake. It was very dry, and they put a mountain of frosting (which tasted like store bought vanilla icing) in between the layers. From what I thought, buttercream should be a little softer that this frosting that they put. I'm highly disappointed with this cake. $40 for frosting with a side of cake is ridiculous. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I received a cookie tower Christmas Eve from my nephew and all the cookies on the bottom were broken. I took the tower back and showed the lady behind the counter who blamed us for the way we handled the package saying we grabbed it from the sides and broke the cookies. No way cookies could be broken in the middle which they all were. Made no attempt to compensate us and were very rude. We are done with this place for sure. read more

I hate dismissive staff at any establishment!!! I walked in to the store, good a couple of minutes i did not get any response from behind the counter. The girl didn't say anything, working on her laptop. I stood over there, didn't say a word to see if when she will respond. Then without turning around she is asking me what do i like. I said a strawberry shortcake, she packed it and i left. I am telling you guys, you will be really sorry one day, when you don't have any job! read more

First let's start that this is the second time John has disappointed me. The first time the same thing happened as well as him making a 7 year old BOY cry because he put flowers on his fake when I did not order flowers for the cake. This cake in the photos was ordered for my birthday and it was a disaster. The hand writing was awful and the cake was super dry and full of frosting with hardly any cake as shown in the photos. When contacted by John he was the most unprofessional and unpleasant person I've encountered. He totally disregarded my complaints and did not care to apologize passing the blame on me and stating that he even put extra frosting and that he can do what he likes with the cakes he makes since I did not put on the ticket that I did not want certain things done. He mentioned in 39 years he's never had a complain but reviews say other wise. His attitude was not of someone who owes a business not of someone who cared that their customer was not pleased. Never experienced this before with a bakery. read more

Maybe it's COVID, Maybe I have grown-up and expanded my palate, Maybe the quality just isn't there anymore. After being an old standby while growing-up, Pasticceria has not aged well. We dropped by to pick up some cookies and pastries and we were disappointed. - The sandwich cookies were okay. - Vanilla lace cookies were not fresh. - Chocolate lace cookies were okay. - Eclairs/Cannoli - the cream was just not fresh. Refrigerator taste. The person behind the counter was properly masked but no gloves. The owner/manager was chatting with a friend unmasked. I don't think I will come back, even after COVID..... read more

Great local Italian bakery when every thing is fresh . Excellent cannoli , biscotti cookies and butter cookies . This place is the worst! Beginning with the obnoxious and incompetent owner he's unprofessional and talks to the customers and employees like shit. It's a dirty place I wouldn't buy not even a cookie from there Their bathroom is unsanitary to say the least don't think baker washes his hands after using it because owner is too cheap to buy supplies There's mold and guck everywhere. He's untrustworthy and handles that place like a used car salesman hence why great customer service is unmotivated by the counter personnel read more

Friendly service and delicious classic pastries. My favorite item was their Napoleon cake, the super sweet hard frosting dyed orange for Halloween with rich creme between delicate layers. Their rainbow cookies are super heavy on the almond flavor which I love. Their apple ring is also a good choice, similar to an apple strudel, it has a sweet, gooey apple pie like filling with sugar crystals sprinkled on top and is great heated up. The only miss was the pumpkin pie which I thought went too heavy on the cinnamon spice. read more

So many delicious choices of cookies, cakes and pastries! I even had to grab a coffee to go since it smelled so good.

This bakery accepts cash only. Not a complaint at all, but just know that going in. I was looking for pastries to bring to my cousin in Howard Beach and a Yelp search yielded La Torre as a good choice. It is a narrow, linear bakery that has traditional Italian cookies, cakes and coffee to stay or go. They have two small tables if you'd like to sit and have a fattening snack. We entered and weren't greeted so much as acknowledged. No prices are posted anywhere. How do I know we're being charged appropriately and correctly if nothing is posted? Cookies are $10/lb and tasty. Coffee is a $1.75 for a large. We had some time to kill and could have stayed and possibly bought more and stayed, the customer service workers were kind of brusque and unwelcoming. The cookies weren't half bad. We enjoyed them once we got out of there. I also appreciated that the kind of cold woman who packed our cookies wore a glove (nice, clean). read more

Wow! Idk how this bakery is still in business. Went to a friends home for the holiday nearby and apparently I bought a bunch of stale pastries. I came to see a friend and was mortified at the same time while people were making rude comments. I traveled from a different state and one would think the local bakery, a small mom and pop would have the most authentic homemade stuff. I was deeply disappointed because customer service should also reflect in the products sold to your customers. This Just shows how little this place cares. When you sell basura (trash) so is your service. Apparently there are other reputable places around but I decided to give this place a chance. You get what you pay for. read more

Staff was very stand-offish maybe because I was Black I don't know. Customer service should really be worked on. I ordered a red velvet cake and asked her to write happy birthday. When picking up the cake it was already tied up. When asking her if I could see it she responded by saying it was already tied up. Like any other customer I would like to see what I'm paying for so I opened it... she seemed annoyed that I did that. Ultimately they would've received more stars if the cake was actually good. Red velvet is supposed to have cream cheese frosting and what I received was not that. So with the bad attitude and bad cake I will never go back there. Ps. I threw the whole cake away. It was a waste of money. read more

I was in the queens area and decided to pick up a last minute cake for Fathers Day. I ordered an all chocolate cake, small size and paid $25 (charged tax for using a card). Best cannoli cream I ever tasted. Rainbow cookies to die for! Has to be one of the best Italian bakeries in NYC. Update 6-11-16 I called the owner yesterday, John da Baker and asked he could help me out. I needed a graduation cake big enough for 50 for TODAY! The person responsible for ordering the event cake totally forgot. I expected a laugh. Instead, He asked me what time did I need it for? I couldn't believe my ears, I was so surprised! I picked the cake up today, what a beautiful job. He really came through. the cake was not only beautiful but absolutely delicious. Everyone loved it! I am uploading a picture of it. A pretty good bakery. I liked the rainbow cookies. They put a bit more jelly than most bakeries. The cookies were lighter and a bit less dense than most. I thought the vanilla and chocolate lace cookies were okay. They were a bit too soft for my liking; I prefer more of a crunch. All in all, I'd definitely stop in again. read more

This is the place. I don't know the name of even one pastry or dessert. I had to try them all. I ran late to get my flight because I stood around trying every taste. And it was the super bowl day. Big Sports Day. Doesn't matter. These guys. I'm italian what do I know about pastries and bakeries. Obviously a lot. I'm gonna teach a class. This is my first lesson plan. Pasticceria LaTorre. Who ever wins the Super Bowl today. I'm going on record. This place probably gave them some pastries before the game. But off the record I ate 7 anisette biscotti myself. They said. We had placed an order for a cake for my son's 9th birthday party with a different local bakery.Imagine our dismay when we arrived at bakery on Sunday the 23rd to pick up the cake and cookies only to find out *they didn't even make the cake*. We remember La Torre and raced over to see if they could rescue my son's birthday. Thanks to Giovanni the day was saved! His staff called him to ask if he could do anything to help and he came back to the store. He was gracious and helpful and asked my son what he could put on the cake for him. We left and in less than an hour the store called to let us know the cake was ready. My son is a Minecraft fanatic and Giovanni got the Creeper and Ender Man perfect on the cake. I can't thank Giovanni and his staff enough for rescuing my son's birthday party! Highly recommended! read more
