I wish that our hotel had told us because my husband had packed one, but luckily the restaurant keeps spare jackets on site for just this situation. The large dining room is incredibly old school with beautiful brass dining chairs laden in blue and yellow striped fabric. When they brought out the wine list I thought it was a joke because it was the size of a dictionary! For dinner I had the beet tartare and the veal filet. The soy marinated tofu was a little bit of an odd flavor combined the beet dish but besides that it was quite good. My husband started with the gnocchi and it may have been the best dish of the night, it was dynamite. In my opinion, my veal filet was better than my husbands beef filet and I also really enjoyed the petite eggplant parmigiana that came with it. Soufflé and ice creams for dessert were a big hit, but I was especially pleased because I asked if they had some dark chocolates off menu and they brought me out a beautiful assortment that tasted as good as they looked. Great restaurant if you are looking for an elegant evening out on the town or an excuse to use the dinner jacket that you packed but thought you wouldn't need.

Despite my clear request for something local and tasty, he continued to present a premade list and insisted on the hotel's offering. Reluctantly, we accepted, trusting his assurance of the food's quality. To our dismay, the meal was a disaster. The pasta was excessively salty, the food was mediocre, and the special sushi roll, priced at an outrageous $90, was below subpar. Frankly, better sushi can be found at a local food chain back home. This $300 meal was, without question, the worst I have ever experienced. The following day, we faced another appalling ordeal at the pool. After waiting two hours for a waiter to take our order, we gave up. When the manager finally appeared, informing us the bar was closing, we asked for water. After another 30 minutes, the water never arrived. Deciding to return to our room, a waitress--who had been conspicuously absent--presented us with a check for water we never received. When questioned, she dismissively pointed at the counter and claimed, "We were about to bring it out to you." Moreover, every meal at the hotel's restaurants has been an exercise in frustration. We have had to beg for a table, and once seated, beg for basic necessities like water. This constant pleading for attention and service is unacceptable. Adding to the disappointment, the room we were given is significantly smaller than advertised. This deceptive practice only exacerbates our dissatisfaction. This lack of attention and care has been a consistent theme throughout our stay. We have had to practically beg for basic services, something unheard of in any other five-star hotel. For the premium price paid per night, I expected nothing short of excellence. Instead, I have been met with incompetence and neglect, which has significantly marred my experience at Lake Como. I am profoundly disappointed and dissatisfied. This experience has tarnished the reputation of a brand I once held in high regard. Unfortunately the taxis where on strike and The only way to get someone to take us to the hotel was if we paid them double. Not a good start to the trip. When we got to the hotel their excuse was they have been very busy. All of the dinners that we had tried to arrange the previous three months were not taken care of. They said they had other restaurants that they could recommend that were better. We took their advice the first night and went to their restaurant and it was subpar. Anytime after that we tried to make a reservation through the concierge's desk they would tell us no we can't get anything there. So we called the restaurants ourselves and made them directly. The staff on site is very young at the restaurants bars etc so they need training and they are not getting it. All the little things that you usually get at five star hotels were not available here. We were told no almost every time we ask for something specific. In your room if you want some thing they ask you to press nine on the phone. The problem is that line is always busy. We have been using American Express platinum find hotels and resorts for almost 30 years. This hotel has no business being on that list.

The osso bucco was fork tender, rich in flavor, and oh so good. We had a local from Milan with us and he gave the risotto two thumbs up, slurping and chomping his way happily through his plate. We all finished the meal by digging out the marrow and having it on a crusty piece of bread, as the locals do. Food was excellent, as was the friendly staff (who spoke a good bit of English). After we finished our meal my wife and I asked if we could see a room. The host took us to one of only 9 rooms in the new property. It is very modern with large room with a couch and a large bathroom. They have a large deck facing the water. I think we will try a room in this hotel on our next visit.

And the hotel continues its use of greenery on the balconies to separate areas for each suite. All done tastefully and the plants are all in very good condition. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. An assortment of croissants, made to order omelets, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, excellent cheeses, meats . . . It goes on and on. The staff were quite lovely and extremely helpful. In truth, I was prepared for a bit of pushback when my wife and I showed up - we are gay. Not even a blink of an eye from anyone. Unfortunately, these days that is a welcome relief.
