We are a small group out here (just 3 students - my two plus one other in a nearby town), but I never felt that we didn't have the full attention of the program. Our students had ups and downs and everything in between this last year. The organization was here for us every step of the way. Management and our regional representative were out here several times visiting and checking in. One student had to be rehomed, and I as her local representative felt very supported as I dealt with her host family, brought her temporarily to my house and worked to find a new family. I hosted two students myself. I am in constant contact with my regional representative who has advice and has listened to hours of my calls and text messages explaining everything we've experienced! These people have become friends and I value the agency's depth and years of experience so much. I'm hosting again this coming year. I'm a much better host parent after having done this for a year. I will continue to work with Nacel Open Door and think the world of all the people I've come in contact with at the agency.

We offered to host him for the entire year and support him in his passion. When we expressed interest and moved quickly to help get him over before the school year started. After quickly making arrangements with the school they said they found another host family. Come to find out THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES diverted the placement for a short term welcome arrangement with the employee! I have to assume there was a financial incentive because they don't even have a plan for where he will transition before the holidays. I had written a letter to upper management begging them to reconsider before sending the information to the student, nope. The situation felt bias towards pushing a white, Christian, rural, traditional family experience verses an alternative American experience with multi-racial/Jewish family. The student was available to host until we expressed interest and their employee who could have offered to host months ago or even helped another student refused to budge, they needed to host our student for 12 weeks rather than our family for the school year. Something fishy is going on, not sure if it is a change in leadership or just the current environment in the United States causing bias, I no longer believe they are making decisions based on the best interest of the students.

He was very astute at reading people's reactions if they looked confused or seemed to have a question. He would stop and make sure they understood before proceeding. He used easy to understand examples so you could comprehend via a real world scenario. The facility was conducive to learning and had a restaurant on the main floor for convenience.

I…read morevisited this center in April 2015 to start the process of enrolling my infant to start in January 2016. The staff assured me that a spot was available and I submitted my registration. I didn't think anymore about it thinking that everything was all set. However, this past week (November 17, 2015), approximately 6 months after I registered and a month and a half before I have to return to work, I received a call from the center stating they no longer have a spot for my son because they were cleaning out an office and found a registration that came in before mine. What!? I find it hard to believe that it took you 6 months to find a missing registration, so my hunch is that somebody friend or family member needed a spot and we got bumped, but I'll never know. If that wasn't bad enough, the director of the center didn't even have the courage to call me herself, she had some other poor soul call me and bear the brunt of my anger. Since my son didn't actually attend the center, I can't speak to the care he would have received, however, in my mind a center that disorganized or possibly lacking in integrity would make me question having my child there.

I have a mixed review. The camp was fantastic for my son last year. The new registration system,…read morehowever, has serious flaws. Two months ago when I registered for camp for this summer, I thought everything was set. However, I just found out that the registration system lets you register for CLOSED sessions. You go all the way through the system and you have just registered for a CLOSED session. You even get a confirmation email (ok, I didn't read line 12 of the confirmation email where it says "waitlist" for status - I just read the top that let's you know you successfully completed registration). Getting your children's summer plans set is a huge task for parents. Sending your kid to a camp that's a four hour plane ride is a big leap. If you can't trust the administrative and operations side of a camp to do things right, how can you feel good about the rest of the experience.
