I just purchased a pair of khaki pants yesterday from a local store in another part of the city and after I tried them on again at home, I felt the pants length was just a little bit too long. I have to wear them at a new seasonal job. So I looked here on Yelp to search for the best tailors in town. And guess what business came up on the list? The Sciolis! WIthout knowing their background and expertise beforehand, my intuition took over. Without even looking anywhere else, I just said to myself I'm going here. After being fortunate to find a good parking space right across the street because it is far from easy to park on Passyunk Avenue, I walked in to a welcoming store by Pasquale and Anna. Once I told them them what I needed to have done, I tried on the pants, Anna took some measurements and within 2 hours, Pasquale completed the work! After Anna called me to tell me the pants were ready and I returned to pick it up, I could not be happier. I did not even need to try on my pants again. I knew based on his experience, he did them right. That is how much I trusted him. This is not just a highly reputable business and have done work for many across the city including mayor Jim Kenney, but those in public life have undoubtedly come to appreciate Pasquale and Anna for what they do! nice enough at the store but wasted my time by making me come all the way there and then told me they couldn't fix my items. i explained over the phone exactly what i needed done and there was no hesitation that they could do it. very frustrating because they couldn't do anything to any to any of the four items I had. seems like they are very limited in what they offer because they couldn't do anything that wasn't done by a machine. I called and spoke to Theresa with Special Occasions Alterations and she recommended Pat Scioli. Boy am I glad she did. The first thing I recognized about Pat is his respect towards people. I have a pair of pants where the outer leg seam started to unravel. When I brought it in, Pat recognized it could be fixed ins matter of minutes. No upscale of additional charges just an honest businessman. He and his wife Anna work together. I did not need it right away and was in a hurry. I left the pants without even getting a ticket. I thought I would return the following day, but could not. Anna remembered who I was from over the phone. She said it was not a problem if I picked the pants up the following day. My experience mirrors what others have posted. Pat is very nice and talkative. His wife is rather curt and comes across as bossy. I dropped off a pair of jeans to be hemmed, and the hem was crooked when I picked them up. I do not think they have a lot of experience working with heavyweight selvedge denim. This shop is expensive & their tactics are questionable--they didn't tell me the price until after they'd already pinned my dress hem, and they didn't tell me it's cash-only until after I agreed to the slightly eye-watering price. After 2 years of wearing sweatpants while working primarily from home due to Covid, I needed a refresher on how to buy men's suits. Rather than taking advantage of my naïveté, Pat discouraged me from getting my online-purchased blazer tailored because doing so would cost more than the blazer was worth. This was my first experience with a tailor, but Pat and Anna made me feel extremely comfortable and showed me exactly what I needed done to my suit without me even asking. I have a difficult build for suit fitting (6'2, 225 lbs), but Pat found a way to make the jacket lay perfectly all over while still giving it a slim, fitted look. He hand sewed the jacket while on my back to show me exactly how the jacket would fit once finished, and took into account what fit I was looking for throughout the process. The suit alteration cost slightly more than I anticipated, but was certainly fair based on the amount of work he did. He even fixed the sleeve on a jacket I brought on for free because of the suit costing more than expected. Pat and Anna turned a department store suit into a custom fitted suit for a reasonable price, and the experience was as South Philadelphia as you can get. Pat is a just a tiny Italian man, but his personality is infectious and he'll have you laughing the whole time. I will definitely be returning to them for any future alteration needs. read more

I went to Pasquale & Anna to have a suit altered. The suit was done in less than a week. The pants needed hemming and the jacket needed sleeves shortened and the collar adjusted in the back. Went to pick it up and try it on. The pants and the sleeve length were fine. The collar of the jacket had a stray pin in it with a slight pinch of material, the bit to be altered. When I showed Anna this she said, Oh, no! We fix it now. You wanna wait! I hesitated a moment, as I'm not from around the area, and was told the suit was done. She asked me to try on the jacket, which I did. She said that it looked fine. I asked are you sure? She assured me, yes. I said, Why did you ask me to wait so you could fix it? I don't think this is done and I don't want to pay for alterations I didn't receive. She said it was fine. Upon further inspection at home, the collar still has a hump. Nothing was done there, which is why the stray pin that they used to mark it was still there. This was the costliest part of the alterations. It was $130.00, in total. Was hoping this would be my new "go-to" spot. Very untrustworthy. I expected better with all the glowing reviews. Don't think that it is asking too much to get what you pay for. read more

Pat and Anna are amazing. No one does what these guys do anymore - rather than using chalk, they use thread to ensure that the alterations look good on you as you wear the clothes. I've taken several very large suits (I lost weight and I didn't know what I was doing when I first bought them), and each time, Pat and Anna have turned them into custom fitted suits. I've easily saved a thousand dollars getting them to tailor my suits rather than buying new ones (which will have had to be tailored anyway). Plus, both Pat and Anna are really nice and charming. They're fun people to talk to, and the level of service that you can get from them cannot be matched. These guys are the only ones in Philadelphia worth going to. I've brought a few pairs of pants there that were very difficult to fix and Pasquale fixed them beautifully. He made them look better than they did when I bought them brand new. Ok, I know this guy is well liked, so I went numerous times and what I am reporting is simply factual, with some opinion based on the experience: - Went in with a Joseph Banks blazer that needed alteration. All I heard was complaining about what a piece of junk it was and endless comments to his wife in Italian. He kept throwing up his hands in disgust and I found myself apologizing endlessly. He did a very good job though. - Brought in six pairs of Brooks Brothers trousers that needed to be hemmed and the waist taken in. (He liked this brand.) I went back no less than four times because he forgot to do the waists on some and blamed me for not telling him. (They all needed the same thing. I told him.) Also, now at least three need to be re-hemmed because they are too short. I told him not too short and he kept talking to his wife in Italian and I had no idea what to say. This ordeal lasted three weeks of waiting and going back again and again. - Brought in my tuxedo pants to take in the waist. Got them back, too tight. Brought them back: too loose. Again, brought them back: too tight! Finally, I was being married at the end of the week, so luckily I could cover the waist cutting into me with a cummerbund. Not fun. - Very disorganized. When you try to pick up items, it's constant questions about what you're getting, how many, what color. Their pricing is anyone's guess also. I eventually gave up trying to figure it out. - If you come in to pick something up and there is a line, forget it. You have to wait while other people are actually fitted before you can just get your clothes. My thought: Go in for one thing, like an entire suit. Don't give him more than one thing to do at a time. Do not bring in simple things like hemming pants or waist alterations. Be ready for a serious wait. Me? I'm done. read more

This is by far the best Tailor that I have ever been to (which includes Boyd's and other Philadelphia institutions). My first experience was a few years back in which I needed my suits resized after some excessive weight loss; Pat sized me up and basically re-made my suits to make them look perfect (probably better) than they did originally. Recently I was back because I needed a Tux for a wedding and I worked with Anna. She looked me up and down then picked a suit from the rack that I thought for like a glove; she was less that pleased and had me put on a size up; then she went to work making this tux perfect. Both Anna and Pat never use the chalk that is common at other Tailor's just a needle and thread to note where the suit needs to be adjusted based on your body. I came back a week later to a perfectly fitting tux, classic tux. The best part is that I looked better than the groom who spent about 3x what I did on his tux. Many people have been buying suits elsewhere and bringing them to Pat & Anna to have them tailored; I'm guilty of this myself. But if you're looking for classic, stylish suits check the racks in the shop, don't let the south Philly style scare you. Pat is not a tailor, he's an artist. I brought him an unfinished three-piece that I needed to wear as a groomsman. I put the suit on and as he was walking around me, pinching seams and tugging lapels, I could already tell that this was a man who had put in his "10,000 hours." Before he did anything, he let me know where adjustments could be made, and demonstrated by holding the fabric in place. Once I gave the ok, he spared the chalk and went right to it, with needle and thread, to mark the adjustment. I picked up the suit the day before the wedding a week later. It had been ready for a few days before that, I just couldn't make it over there. I put on the finished product and was immediately satisfied. The next day at the ceremony and reception I put that suit through it's paces through all manner of activity and never gave it a second thought. I will definitely be seeing Pat & Anna again, count on it. As a side note, Pat and his lovely wife Anna charmed me completely. From Pat's famous catchphrases: "Take it eeze", or my personal favorite "custom fit," to Anna keeping the wheels turning with many customers in the store at once: "finish with him before you start another!" I can't attest to the quality of work here, but the experience thus far has been incredibly frustrating. It's a charming, old-school kind of place, but man, oh man is the service SLOW. Do not take a large amount of stuff here because you will be there for a long time. Additionally, their hours are not regular, which is incredibly frustrating. If you show up at 5:30, there's no guarantee that they will be open, even though their hours are posted as 9 AM - 6 PM. We're going out of town and tried to get our tailoring before we left, but they were closed before 6 yesterday and didn't open at 9 this morning. The owners are going on vacation for a month, so now we have to wait until September to get our tailoring. I hope the work is exceptional because it hasn't been worth it thus far. read more

We live in South Philly and thought we would give this place a shot for tailoring. I sent my fiance in today to get a suit altered for our wedding coming up. He came out of here very frustrated after the lady was extremely rude telling him they are "too busy for him" after he made a 10:00 appointment over the phone. It's one thing to be too busy but to be extremely rude about it...that is not who we do business with. Very unprofessional and uncalled for! He asked if she could recommend another place and she dismissed him. My fiance is very sweet so I am very confused as to why the attitude. Way to make the GROOM feel great lady!!! He took one look at me and said what I needed would require too much patience and work. He said he didn't have the time to do what I needed.
